YEAR 3 NEW TESTAMENT Unit 1 Prophesies and Promises Fulfilled Unit Focus: Jesus is God s greatest gift to the world. Memory Verse: She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21) Lesson 1 Zechariah s Vision Scripture: Luke 1:5-25 Focus: An angel brought a message from God to Zechariah. Lesson 2 The Announcements Scripture: Luke 1:26-38; Matthew 1:18-25; Isaiah 7:10-14 Focus: God sent an angel to Mary and one to Joseph to tell them about the birth of Jesus. Lesson 3 Birth of John Scripture: Luke 1:57-80; Malachi 3:1; Isaiah 40:3 Focus: John s birth caused much rejoicing. Zechariah s song told of how John would prepare the way for the Messiah.

Lesson 4 Birth of Jesus Scripture: Luke 2:1-7; Micah 5:2; Isaiah 7:14; 9:1-7 Focus: The birth of Jesus fulfilled Old Testament prophecy. Unit 2 Celebrate Unit Focus: Jesus is the Savior, the Messiah. (Luke 2:11) Lesson 5 The Shepherds Worship Scripture: Luke 2:8-20 Focus: The shepherds were the first to come and worship Jesus. Lesson 6 Simeon and Anna Meet Jesus Scripture: Luke 2:22-40 Focus: When Joseph and Mary took Jesus to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord, Simeon and Anna affirmed the destiny of Jesus. Lesson 7 The Magi and the Flight to Egypt Scripture: Matthew 2 Focus: Some months after Jesus birth, Magi came to worship Jesus. An angel warned Joseph to flee to Egypt to save the life of Jesus. Lesson 8 Jesus Visits the Temple Scripture: Luke 2:41-52 Focus: As a 12-year-old boy, Jesus visited the temple and amazed the teachers with His understanding. Unit 3 Beginning of Jesus Ministry Unit Focus: Jesus begins His ministry with God s approval. Memory Verse: And a voice from heaven said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. (Matthew 3:17)

Lesson 10 Temptation of Jesus Scripture: Matthew 4:1-11 Focus: After Jesus baptism, He was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted. Lesson 11 Rejected by His Hometown Scripture: Luke 4:14-30 Focus: When Jesus returned to Nazareth, He went to the synagogue but was rejected by the people. Lesson 12 Jesus Calls Disciples Scripture: Matthew 4:18-22; John 1:35-51; Luke 5:1-11 Focus: Jesus began His ministry by calling disciples to follow Him. Unit 4 Teachings of Jesus Unit Focus: Jesus taught the people about the kingdom of God. Memory Verse: So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12) Lesson 13 Jesus Teaches Nicodemus Scripture: John 3:1-21 Focus: Jesus explains how to be born again to Nicodemus. Lesson 14 Jesus and the Woman at the Well Scripture: John 4:1-42 Focus: Jesus talks to a Samaritan woman and reveals His identity. Lesson 15 Sermon on the Mount Scripture: Matthew 5--7 Focus: God s people experience joy as they live in right relationship with God and others.

Lesson 16 Seek the Kingdom Scripture: Matthew 6:25-34; 7:7-14 Focus: Jesus encourages His followers to not worry and to ask for what they need. Unit 5 Jesus Miracles Unit Focus: Jesus showed the people God s power through many miracles. Memory Verse: No one has ever seen God. But God the only Son is very close to the Father, and he has shown us what God is like. (John 1:18, NCV) Lesson 17 Calming the Storm Scripture: Matthew 8:23-27; Mark 4:35-41 Focus: Jesus gives us comfort when we are afraid. Lesson 18 The Four Friends Scripture: Matthew 9:1-8; Mark 2:1-12 Focus: Jesus heals and forgives a paralyzed man brought to Him by four of his friends. Lesson 19 Widow s Son Scripture: Luke 7:11-17 Focus: Jesus feels compassion for a mother and brings her son back to life. Lesson 20 Ten Lepers Scripture: Luke 17:11-19 Focus: Jesus heals ten lepers but only one comes back to give Him thanks and praise. Unit 6 Parables of Jesus Unit Focus: Jesus told stories to illustrate truths He wants everyone to know. Memory Verse: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) Lesson 21 Wise and Foolish Builders

Lesson 22 The Sower Scripture: Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23; Luke 8:1-15 Focus: Jesus compares His listeners to different kinds of soils. Lesson 23 The Lost Sheep Scripture: Luke 15:1-7 Focus: God searches for the lost and rejoices when a sinner repents. Lesson 24 The Lost Son Scripture: Luke 15:11-32 Focus: God loves everyone and forgives those who seek His forgiveness. Unit 7 Jesus Last Week Unit Focus: Jesus came to suffer and die for our sins. Memory Verse: Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6) Lesson 25 Triumphal Entry Into Jerusalem Scripture: Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-40; John 12:12-19 Focus: Jesus came to be King of our lives. Lesson 26 The Last Supper Scripture: Luke 22:7-27; Matthew 26:14-30; Mark 14:12-15 John 13 Focus: Jesus Last Supper reminds us that He came to suffer and die for our sins. Lesson 27 Jesus Talks and Prays with the Disciples Scripture: John 16:17 17:19 Focus: Jesus talked to the disciples about what would happen and prayed for their protection. Lesson 28 Gethsemane Scripture: Matthew 26:36-56; Mark 14:32-65; Luke 22:39-62; John 18

Focus: Jesus is betrayed by Judas and arrested by the soldiers in the garden. Unit 8 Jesus Death/Resurrection/Appearances Unit Focus: Jesus resurrection conquered the power of sin and death. Memory Verse: If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9) Lesson 29 The Trial of Jesus Scripture: Matthew 26:57 27:31; Mark 14:43 15:20; Luke 22:47 23:25; John 18 Focus: Jesus is taken to the high priest, and then to the palace of Pilate. Although Pilate finds no basis for a charge against Him, he gives Him over to the chief priests to be crucified. Lesson 30 The Crucifixion Scripture: Matthew 27:32-60; Mark 15:21-47; Luke 23:26-56; John 19:17-27 Focus: Jesus carries the Cross out to the hill called Golgotha and is crucified with two others, one on each side. Jesus spoke several times from the Cross. When He died, the sky grew dark, the temple curtain was torn, and there was an earthquake. Lesson 31 The Resurrection Scripture: Matthew 27:62 28:20; Mark 16; Luke 24:1-12; John 20:1-18 Focus: Jesus body was placed in a tomb, but on the third day God raised Him from the dead. Some women discovered this when they went to the tomb to anoint His body with spices. He appeared to Mary at the tomb. She spread the word about His resurrection. Lesson 32 Jesus Appears to Many Scripture: Matthew 28:16-20; Luke 24:13-35; John 20:19 21:14 Focus: Jesus appeared to His disciples and many others for forty days after His resurrection.

Unit 9 Ascension/Pentecost/Early Church Unit Focus: The Holy Spirit provides the love and power the Church needs to grow and help others. Memory Verse: By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. (John 13:35) Lesson 33 Jesus Ascension Scripture: Luke 24:36-53; Acts 1:1-11 Focus: Jesus is alive and is always at work in our lives. Lesson 34 Pentecost Scripture: Acts 2:1-41 Focus: The Holy Spirit gives Christians power to live for God and tell others about Jesus. Lesson 35 The Early Church Scripture: Acts 2:42-47; 4:32-37 Focus: The believers spent much time in fellowship and prayer. They shared what they had with each other. Lesson 36 Persecution of the Apostles Scripture: Acts 5:17-42 Focus: The high priests tried to stop the apostles from telling about Jesus. They put them in prison and beat them. The apostles did not stop spreading the good news about Jesus despite opposition and persecution. Unit 10 The Good News Spreads Unit Focus: The Holy Spirit gives Christians courage to witness even if they are persecuted. Memory Verse: Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19) Lesson 37 Peter and John Scripture: Acts 4:1-31

Focus: Peter and John healed and preached in the name of Jesus despite the protests of the Sanhedrin. Lesson 38 Peter Learns a Lesson Scripture: Acts 10--11 Focus: God demonstrates to Peter that He does not show favoritism but accepts all people who hear and believe the message of Jesus. Lesson 39 Saul s Conversion Scripture: Acts 9:1-22 Focus: God chooses and calls some people to special kinds of ministry. Lesson 40 Paul s Journeys Scripture: Acts (various passages) Focus: Paul makes numerous journeys to many different countries telling people about Jesus and starting churches. Unit 11 Letters to the Churches Unit Focus: Paul wrote letters to the churches to encourage and teach the believers. Memory Verse: The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) Lesson 41 Rome Scripture: Romans 3:22-24; 5:1; 8 Focus: Paul explains God s plan of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Lesson 42 Corinth Scripture: 1 Corinthians 8:1 11:1 Focus: Paul tries to help the young church in Corinth figure out what spiritual freedom means to a Christian and how to live the Christian life. Lesson 43 Galatia Scripture: Galatians 2:15 3:29 Focus: Paul tells the church in Galatia that keeping the law, even the Ten Commandments, cannot save them from their sins. Instead, freedom and

salvation are found through placing their faith in the atoning death of Jesus on the Cross. Lesson 44 Ephesus Scripture: Ephesians 4:1 6:18 Focus: Paul s letter to the church in Ephesus provides practical advice for believers. Unit 12 God s Hope for All Believers Unit Focus: The Church has hope for today and throughout eternity as they follow Jesus Christ and His teachings. Memory Verse: I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty. (Revelation 1:8) Lesson 45 Philippi Scripture: Philippians 1:3 2:18; 4:4-13 Focus: Paul expresses his joy in the church at Philippi and encourages them to follow his example and stand firm in the Lord. Lesson 46 Colossae Scripture: Colossians 1:15 2:8; 3:1-17 Focus: As a part of his instructions, Paul warns the people of the Colossae church not to be led astray by those who would try to make Christianity fit with other beliefs. Lesson 47 Revelation of John Scripture: Revelation 1 3 Focus: God gave John a vision and messages from Jesus for all people that He is the Lamb and He is worthy. Lesson 48 Vision of Heaven Scripture: Revelation 21 22:5 Focus: God is preparing a place in heaven for all those who believe in Jesus Christ. John had a vision of the new heaven and new earth that God has prepared for those whose names are written in the Lamb s book of life.
