Dinner and breakfast served aboard. Wednesday, March 4 - You arrive in Rome this morning, clear customs and are met by your multilingual Tour Manager. You drive by deluxe motor coach north to the scenic hills of Umbria, and arrive in Assisi, a peace-filled hill town sanctified by St. Francis of Assisi. This afternoon you go to the plains below Assisi to visit the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. Inside you see the Porziuncola, the little chapel where St. Francis gathered his followers. You celebrate HOLY MASS in the Basilica in the chapel of St. Clare. Back at the hotel you enjoy dinner together. D Assisi Thursday, March 5 - This morning you celebrate MASS at the TOMB OF ST. FRANCIS in the Basilica of St. Francis. Afterward you will be given a tour of the Basilica by a Franciscan guide. You can marvel at its many magnificent frescos, especially those by Giotto depicting the life of the saint. Walking through Assisi and up to its main square, you go further on to the Basilica of St. Clare. In the upper side chapel you will see and venerate the Crucifix that once was in the church of San Damiano and that spoke to Francis the command to "Rebuild my Church." Entombed in the crypt is the incorrupt body of St. Clare. After time for lunch, you continue to explore the holy places of Assisi, and can be tempted by many places to shop. Some may choose to walk downhill from the city walls to the Church of San Damiano, so very important in the origins of the Franciscan Order. You have dinner together at your hotel. B & D Assisi Friday, March 6 - This morning you head northwest to Siena, a delightful medieval town, but important because of the connection with St. Catherine, Doctor of the Church and reformer of the Papacy. In the church of St. Dominic you offer MASS at the RELICS ofst. CATHERINE. Your walking tour takes you to the Piazza del Campo and to the Gothic Cathedral of dark and light marble. You drive north into Tuscany to the city of Florence, flourishing center of the Renaissance and Medieval center of Europe's trade and finance. You check in to your hotel in city center and have dinner together. B & D Florence Saturday, March 7 - You celebrate HOLY MASS in the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, just steps from your hotel. Your guided city tour of Florence, Art Capital of the world, includes a visit to the Academy of Fine Arts which houses Michelangelo's sculpture of David, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and its masterfully done bronze Baptistry doors worthy to be called by Michelangelo the "Gates of Paradise." You tour the Piazza della Signoria and its Loggia, and finish at Santa Croce Church filled with the tombs of many famous persons in the history of Italy. The rest of the day is at leisure for exploring on one's own. The shops are laden with jewelry
of Florentine gold and silver, exquisite leather goods and bargains of all kinds. Dinner together at a restaurant nearby. B & D Florence Sunday, March 8 - You motor south and reach the beautiful hill town oforvieto. It is here that in 1263 Pope Urban IV proclaimed the authenticity of a Eucharistic miracle that the Sacred Host had bled during a Mass celebrated in nearby Bolsena. You can still see the Corporal associated with the miracle enshrined within the Cathedral of Or vie to. From this event the Church instituted the Feast of Corpus Christi. The Cathedral's world-famous facade is adorned with splendid mosaics of religious art. You celebrate HOLY MASS in the CATHEDRAL'S CHAPEL of the CORPORAL. Traveling south to Rome, the Eternal City, you arrive at your hotel for check-in and then dinner together at a restaurant nearby. Monday, March 9 - This morning your MASS is in the crypt ofst. PETER'S BASILICA near the tomb of the first Pope. As you walk through and pray, your thoughts are flooded with the events that have taken place here and the people who have worshiped in this great center of the Church. After Mass you have some free time for exploring on your own. Some may even venture an ascent to the top of the dome ofst. Peter's, and be rewarded with a fantastic view of Vatican City and the city of Rome. There are shops where you may wish to purchase religious articles and have them blessed by the Pope at the Wednesday Audience. At the noon hour there is time on your own to find a snack. That at 1:00 PM you meet a guide for a tour through the treasures of the Vatican Museum, seeing especially the Sistine Chapel with its awesome frescos by Michelangelo. The tour concludes with an inside visit of the Basilica. This evening you assemble in your hotel and go out for a dinner at another nearby restaurant featuring delicious Italian cuisine. Tuesday, March 10 - This morning you drive to the outskirts of Rome to the Catacombs of St. Callixtus, which is adjacent to the Old Appian Way. Your tour through these hallowed burial grounds of the early Christians calls to mind the fundamentals of our Faith, depicted in part on the very walls of these underground chambers. Close by you reach St. Paul Outside the Walls, a beautiful Basilica dedicated to the Apostle of the Gentiles, where you celebrate HOLY MASS in the CHAPEL OF ST. BENDICT. As you stand in the atrium, you marvel at the Basilica's mosaic that depicts the Lamb of God giving Life to His Flack. This afternoon is free. Much can be seen by walking through Old Rome: the Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and countless church where tombs of saints and great masterpieces can be discovered. Rome, the Center of the Roman Empire and Center of the Church! This evening you can go out on your own for dinner. B Rome Wednesday, March 11- This morning you will experience a highlight of your Roman stay, attendance at a PAPAL AUDIENCE at St. Peter's with His Holiness Pope Francis. After the Papal Audience you take a break for lunch. In the afternoon your bus transports the group to the most illustrious church dedicated to Our Lady, the Basilica of St. Mary Major. Here you will celebrate HOLY MASS in the beautiful chapel of Our Lady, Protector of the Roman People. Your Tour Manager will point out some points of interest in the interior of the
Basilica. In the Confessio beneath the high altar you can venerate the Relics of the Crib that held the Infant Jesus in Bethlehem. You see an ornate ceiling comprised of gold from the new world as well as a beautiful mosaic apse. Your next stop is the church of St. Peter in Chains, where you see the masterpiece sculpture of Moses by Michelangelo. You return to your hotel and prepare to go out and celebrate together at a Farewell Dinner with wine and music. Thursday, March 12 - You check out of your hotel and transfer to the Rome airport for your return flights to the U.S., arriving this same day in your home cities.
