The commitment will be 3-4 months and a few members of the Transition Task Force will move on to join the Call Committee. The Transition Task Force will be composed of people from both congregations and well balanced in age and gender. We have had very positive feedback about Pastor Marie and her ministry to us. We are thankful she is here. Pastor s Report was done during the joint parish meeting. Please review the Parish Council Minutes. Pastor Marie continues to plan for her mission trip to Haiti. There was continued correspondence with Minnesota Department of Health regarding the nitrate level in the drinking water. Further discussion is under Old Business. We also received correspondence with formal documentation of our contract with Pastor Marie Old Business: 1) High Nitrates in the Water A grant application has been submitted to the state of Minnesota requesting funds to help defer some of the cost related to a water treatment system. Duane Bakke has been very helpful in pursuing this. The application included a statement that we will procede with installation of a water treatment system within specified timeframe after receiving the grant. We will continue to provide drinking water. 2) Steeple Repairs Steeple repairs continue to be problematic. We continue to pursue contractors to assist us. If Gingrich Construction is unavailable, we may need to pursue alternative options. Jerry will contact him again this week. Leigh Volkman near Bratsburg may be an alternative option, he is a member of HP. 3) Mowing Jerry did talk with Lawstuens and there are willing to continue to do the ground mowing. 4) Kitchen Floor Tile Repairs Ryan Danielson has been contacted to look at the repairs needed to the kitchen floor. He is available and will address these issues in the next few weeks. The cost estimate was $300. It was recently noted tiles were loose in the men s bathroom. Vicky made motion to accept repairs, Michelle seconded. Motion carried. 5) Fire Extinguishers Fire Extinguishers have been reloaded and replaced.

Elstad-Highland Prairie Lutheran Church Council Meeting Sunday, March 8, 2015 The Meeting was held at Elstad Lutheran Church with Elstad President Larry Topness calling the meeting to order at 7:00pm. Roll call was taken with Gordon Johnson, Karen Bakken, Kyle Chiglo, Allen Skalet, Jerry Hallum, Dave Larson, Chuck Pederson, Lyle Meldahl, Larry Topness, Jerry Evenson, Jennifer Nepstad, Vicky Topness, Jodie Daniels, John Rein and Michelle Rein present. Kay Dahl, and Sarah Bearbower, were absent. A quorum was called. Others present: Lisa Chiglo Parish Secretary, Pastor Marie Anderson Devotions were given by Gordon Johnson. Steve made motion to approve, Jerry second. Motion carried. President s report was given. Things continue to go well, there are no acute concerns. Pastors Report was given. Pastor Marie is enjoying her time here. She complimented the parish on our ability to work together and encouraged us to continue to focus on growth in this area. She reviewed her plan to split her time between the parsonage and her home. She already has a couple weddings planned. She is looking into shut-ins, hospital visitations, and nursing home visits. She would welcome company! The office has limited records, she will be working with us to update records for the next call. She continues to get to know our parish and our individual needs. The Synod Assembly is upcoming. The focus is Enough Food for All. As a result of a previous continuing education commitment, Pastor Marie will not be able to attend, but encouraged members to attend as they are able. There was no correspondence. Old Business/Committee Reports: Many Parsonage locks have been updated. CO2 detectors and smoke detectors need to be placed. Inside painting and ceilings in upstairs bedrooms need some repairs. Threshold pieces need to be placed. Downstairs bedroom needs to be painted. Downstairs bathroom ceiling needs to be repaired. Larry has a bed available that Pastor Marie may use I the parsonage if she wishes. Parsonage Committee includes Jerry, Larry, Gordon, and Kay. They will continue to work on necessary improvements in the parsonage. New Business: Pastor Marie would like the council to consider and clarify confirmation requirements and marriage requirements. These are topics that need to be addressed before we move forward and consider our next pastoral call process. Confirmation is an area that needs to be discussed. There needs to be an opportunity to allow people to express their concerns in a constructive manner. Then a work group should be set up to address these concerns and outline acceptable standards as a parish. Once this is completed, we can share our expectations and values for confirmation with our next call pastor. This still leaves our current 7 th and 8 th grade students in limbo. We can meet with those families and determine goals for them, perhaps focusing on the Catechism. This can address both our long term and short term needs for confirmation and will focus on specific goal setting. This work group should also include the education leaders from both congregations.

There also needs to be a review of policy regarding weddings, with specific consideration given LGBT unions. The marriage policy should be reviewed and updated by the parish, (or each church can specify their wishes) and something that we are comfortable with in the absence of a specific request. This also will be an important topic to be considered as we look at our next call pastor. The current marriage policy at Elstad does refer to marriage as a union between one man and one woman. We need to determine if this statement reflects Elstad s current wishes, we also need to determine if it is important that HP and Elstad have the same policy. This issue has become more prominent since LGBT unions have become legal in Minnesota. Another topic to address within the marriage policy is whether a Lutheran minister needs to officiate, or co-officiate, any ceremony held within our parish or on our parish grounds. Also, do we want to put limitations on our called pastor that would affect his/her ability to participate in a LGBT union, even if this were to occur outside of our physical premises. This is a topic that will require much prayerful consideration. After consideration, we can be address this further at our next parish meeting. Gordon made motion to adjourn, Vicky seconded the motion. Motion carried. Closed in Prayer by Pastor Marie Meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm. Reviewed, corrected, and approved by the parish council May 17,2015 Submitted by Michelle Rein, Elstad Council Secretary Summer Preaching Theme This summer the sermons will take us back to the Old Testament, where we will become reconnect with our ancestors in faith. We will cover the period of history when God s people ask for a king so they can be like their neighbors. Through the success and challenges met by the first kings and the prophets who served those kings we will see how God remained faithful. Let s Read The Book of Forgiving by Desmond Tutu & Mpho Tutu You are invited to read and discuss a book with me this summer. We will meet twice and you can come to either or both discussion. Tutu is an international recognized writer and humanitarian. In this book he joins with his daughter, an Anglican Priest. Both Women and Men are invited into the discussion. Over the course of the two days, the hashtag #forgodsoloved2015 was used more than 300 times! During his official report near the end of the event, Bishop Delzer shared, I love this church. I love this synod and the way we live out what it means to walk together. His message included affirmation to voting members and congregations for the multitude of ways they work together.
