The Bible in TWO YEARS With Historical Chronology Prioritized* *Notes on the order: 1. In the Old Testament, a. Each book is in order of the history it portrays or, with the poetic and prophetic books, of the history in which it was written. b. The historical accounts of David (1 & 2 Samuel and 1 Chronicles) precede the Psalms, the writing (primarily) of David. c. The historical accounts of Solomon precede his writings (Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs). d. The post-solomonic part of 2 Chronicles has been kept together. e. The post-solomon parts of 1 & 2 Kings are interrupted to stop and read from the prophets who ministered at the times just read in Kings. 2. With the New Testament, a. The synoptic Gospels are first, in order of their writing dates, to establish the New Testament history with the ministry of Jesus. b. The reading in Acts is interrupted throughout in order to read various epistles whenever the narrative arrives at a point at which an epistle was written. Also, the chapters of Acts are identified with the historical dates of the events they describe. c. All the epistles, both those concurrent with the narrative in Acts and those written after Acts conclusion, are ordered by their writing dates. d. The writings of John, being the last-written books of the New Testament, are last, and are ordered by their likely dates of composition. e. Lastly, likely writing dates for each New Testament book are given.
Layout of the Readings The readings divide the whole of the Bible into 730 readings of closely equal length. The readings are not dated, but are numbered, from 1-730. Reason for the Layout Since the readings are numbered, not dated, you can start your reading at any time of the year, not just on January 1. The sheets don t have dated readings also so that there are no guilt feelings (or weight) of getting behind nor of having to have a double-reading day to catch up, should you miss any days. If you miss a day, it s probably best just to pick up where you left off, with the next reading only. Otherwise, you may come to hate these sheets and to be discouraged, which is the opposite purpose for which these sheets were created! Read the whole Bible in two years. When you complete a reading, write the date on the sheet next to the reading. That ll give you a good sense of your progress as time rolls on. As you work through the Bible in two years, you ll be blessed, as you have a good bit of Scripture wash over you each day.
