M E S S A G E F R O M T H E R E C TOR T he theme of this week of prayer for Christian unity this year is reconciliation. The associated verses from the bible are from 2 Corinthians ch 5:14-20 which says the love of Christ compels us... Some people have asked where does this week of prayer for Christianity come from? It was first proposed in 1908 as an observance within the Roman Catholic church by Fr. Paul Wattson, founder of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. Since the founding of the World Council of Churches in 1948, many other Christian groups around the world have come to celebrate this week of prayer for Christian unity. Every year then, between January 18 (the remembrance of the confession of Saint Peter) and January 25th (the feast of the conversion of St. Paul), Christians around the world are invited to celebrate a week of prayer for the unity of all Christians. There is more information available at weekofprayer.ca *************************************** On January 28, 1988 the Supreme Court of Canada declared the abortion section of the criminal code unconstitutional. Since then there have been no laws governing abortions in Canada. Please continue to pray and fast that legislation will come about to protect the most vulnerable of all Canadians, the unborn. Please also pray for all people involved in abortions. - Fr. Galvon A N E C U M E N I S M O F S U F F E R I N G If one me mber suffers, all suffer together; if one me mber is honored, all rejoice together (1 Corinthians 12:26). This is a law of the Christian life, and in this sense, we can say that there is also an ecumenism of suffering: just as the blood of the mart yrs was a seed of strength and fertility for the Church, so too the sharing of daily suffering can become an effective instrument of unity. And this also applies, in a certain sense, to the broader context of society and relations between Christians and non -Christians: from shared suffering can blossom forth forgiveness, reconciliation, and peace, with God s help. - Pope Francis speaks to our hearts Icon of the Egyptian Christians who were martyred in Libya of the coast of the Mediterranean by Islamic terrorists in February of 2015. Organ Prelude: Récit and Plein Jeu - P. DU MAGE Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus Dei: Missa Brevissima Gregoriana - K. TEN HOOPE Offertory: Laudate Dominum (Choir) - G. O. PITONI Communion: 1. O Sing Joyfully (Quartet) - A. BATTEN 2. Adagio from Voluntary in D minor (Organ) - J. STANLEY 3. Organ Postlude: Grand Jeu - P.
