GOD MADE PEOPLE LIFE POINT: God made people. CREATION LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING God created people able to make choices. BIBLE PASSAGE Genesis 1:26-31; 2:7,15-24 WEEKLY VERSE Love your father and mother. Deuteronomy 5:16 UNIT VERSE In the beginning God made the world. Genesis 1:1 LEADER BIBLE STUDY In the previous session, we reviewed God s creative process for populating the earth with a variety of living animals. Now we turn to the creation of humanity. Notice that God made an immeasurable leap in His value of humans relative to the rest of creation. He created mankind, both male and female, in His image (Genesis 1:27). This means that humans have characteristics like God Himself. We can communicate in complex languages and can make moral choices. Most importantly, we have a spiritual nature and can have a personal relationship with God. God commanded the man and woman to procreate and be stewards of His creation. He provided them with food and a perfect environment to live. Genesis 2 provides details of God s creation of man, called Adam in chapter 3. God made the man from the dust of the earth. Unlike the animals created earlier, God breathed life into the man! God placed him in a beautiful garden. He told the man to name the animals. No creature, however, was adequate as a companion for the man, so God put him to sleep and formed a woman from his rib. Today s study ends with the biblical definition of marriage. What does it mean that humans are stewards of God s earth? Why is God s definition of marriage so significant (Genesis 2:24)? (See Jesus affirmation: Matthew 19:4-6; Mark 10:6-9.) NOTE: Downloadable versions of items identified as CD are available in the Music and Print Extras Bundle. Items identified as DVD are available in the Digital Video Bundle. GROUP TIME Remember things God made. Show Teaching Pictures 1 and 2. Prompt kids to touch a picture and name something God made that they remember from that story. Make a list of the things kids name on a large piece of paper. Pray. Open the Bible to Genesis 1:1 and read the Unit Verse. Guide kids to take turns praying and thanking God for the things He created. Encourage each child to say: Thank You, God, for. Close the prayer by thanking God for Jesus. Tell the Bible story. Explain that today the kids will hear about the last thing God made. Hold the Bible open at Genesis 1. Tell the Bible story in your own words. GOD MADE PEOPLE Based on Genesis 1:26-31; 2:7,15-24 God had created a beautiful world. The last thing God made was people. God said, People will be different from the other things made. They will rule over the animals, fish, and birds. They will care for the earth. God had spoken to create everything else He had made. This time He used dust from the ground and made a man. God breathed life into the man. God put the man in the garden of Eden to work in it and take care of it. God said, You can eat from any tree but one. Do not eat from that special tree. God said, The man should not be alone. God brought the animals to the man. The man named all the animals. But God knew that none of the animals would be the right kind of helper for the man. God made the man fall asleep. He took a rib from the man and made a woman. The man s name was Adam. The woman was Eve. (Genesis 3:20) They were the first people. UNIT 1, SESSION 3 GOD MADE PEOPLE Based on Genesis 1:26-31; 2:7,15-24 God had created a beautiful world.

LEARNING THE STORIES West Africa KIMBERLY CAIN Children all over the world are important to Jesus. He loves them and wants them to learn about Him when they are very young. Christian workers, like Kimberly Cain in West Africa, love the children like Jesus does. Sometimes Kimberly teaches kids as they sit on mats on the dusty ground. Sometimes she teaches kids at a local church where the roof is made of woven grass. That church building might not look like yours, but the children in West Africa are learning the same stories from the Bible that you are! Kimberly uses a storying cloth to tell stories from the Bible. Each picture on the cloth tells a story. Kimberly tells children the story of creation and continues with stories about Jesus so children can grow up knowing Him and telling others about Him. Ways to pray for the people and missionaries in West Africa: Pray that missionaries will be willing and able to learn the language spoken by the people so they can tell the people about Jesus. Pray for missionaries as they adjust to a different culture in a part of the world where the temperature stays very hot all year. Pray that the children of West Africa will learn to follow Jesus at a young age. Bible Studies For Life Kindergarten, Fall 2016 2016 LifeWay. Published in the United States of America
