Just before concluding His earthly ministry, our one and only Saviour left us two awesome gifts the Priesthood [Sacred Orders] and the Holy Eucharist [Holy Communion]. With these two Sacraments (or Mysteries, as we often call them in the Eastern Churches) we find solace and grace and strength to live our lives to the full! Through the Holy Eucharist we are united with Jesus, the second person of the Holy Trinity i.e. one with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. We become one with Him! There is much written in the Sacred Scriptures about the Eucharist. You owe it to yourself to look at that (esp. John 6:1-68 and 1Corinthians 11:23-31). Also the Catechism Christ our Pascha 343-402

The Welcome Home provides a variety of programs to serves both single adults and families of the North Point Douglas neighbourhood in Winnipeg's inner-city. Thursday's program is time for conversation and fellowship for the adults and time for kids to play before the Vesper service. After the service, the hot meal is served family style and all are asked to help with setup and cleanup. The evening meal is conducted under the capable and dedicated leadership of key volunteers Carolynne, Dolly and Linda. On Thursday, we had a full house at Welcome Home with over 60 attendees including lots of families with young children. Vesper service was conducted by Father Larry Kondra and he also held a Q&A sesssion to identify new activities/programs for the Welcome Home family. Sister Ruth and Father Sianchuk were also in attendance.

2017/2018 will be the 25th anniversary of Welcome Home. The Welcome Home is a community outreach home of the Redemptorists. In the autumn of 1992, the Yorkton Province Provincial Chapter made a landmark decision to create a ministry that would explicitly reflect the Redemptorist charism with a choice in favour of the poor in a Canadian context. This paved the road to the opening of The Welcome Home in Winnipeg in September 1993. Fr. Larry became the founding Director and remained in this position until July, 2005. He considers his friendships with many First Nations people as one of the great blessings of his experience at The Welcome Home. He also played a role with the Point Douglas Residents Committee which prepared a plan for neighbourhood renewal that was recognized by the City of Winnipeg. One of Fr. Larry's favourite meaningful quotes is from St. John Chrysostom (www.sspp.ca/kondra.htm): "Lift up and stretch out your hands, not to heaven, but to the poor. For if you stretch your hands to the poor you have reached the summit of heaven, but if you lift up your hands in prayer without sharing with the poor, it is worth nothing! The poor are a greater temple than the sanctuary." The Welcome Home is a model of church for the Church; it challenges us to discover our God, present in our own little and imperfect humanity. They strive to build a community that reflects qualities of the Holy Trinity: inclusive, equal, compassionate, and non-judgmental. Your kind and continued support of the various fundraising events in our St. Basil's parish held by the Knights of Columbus Council #11021 and our Ukrainian Catholic Women's League helps us raise funds to support community programs such as the meals we continue to provide at The Welcome Home. We welcome volunteers to assist our St. Basil's parish organizations with these events. There is a great need for volunteer outreach and service in our city. Fraternally yours, Alan Prychitko St. Basil Council K of C #11021 THE WELCOME HOME Come discover yourself, while helping others in need. The Welcome Home is now accepting applicants for the live-in community commencing September 2017. We ask for a 10 month live in commitment however the length of stay is negotiable and can be a little as 4 months.
