NOVEMBER 29, 2015 ST. COLUMBANUS CHURCH_ #481/PAGE 4 FROM THE PASTOR CONTINUED I would like to thank the Rosary and Altar Society for the refreshments for our parish celebration of our patron Saint on his feast day last Monday. Thanks to all who came. May St. Columbanus bless all the families of our parish. We hope all had a Happy Thanksgiving. Although many people are struggling it is still important to be thankful for our blessings which inspires us to reach out to others. This Sunday night we begin our Advent Mission with Columban priest Fr. Tim Mulroy. Please make time to attend the mission every day to prepare our hearts for Jesus at Christmas. Beside our Mission we will also participate in The Year of Mercy which begins on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. Tuesday night, December 8, we will hold our annual National Night of Prayer for Life from 9:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., December 9. The national Night of Prayer for Life is held in hundreds of parishes throughout the country. Please come for one of the hours to pray for our families and our country. On Saturday, December 12, our parish choir will host our first ever Festival of Lessons and Carols. This will be comprised of Advent scripture readings and hymns. I know the choir has been working hard. About St. Columbanus: Columbanus, whose birth took place the year St. Benedict died, was from childhood well instructed. He was handsome and prepossessing in appearance, and this exposed him to the shameless temptations of several of his countrywomen. He also had to struggle with his own temptations. At last he betook himself to a religious woman, who advised him thus: Twelve years ago I fled from the world, and shut myself up in this cell. Hast thou forgotten Samson, David and Solomon, all led astray by the love of women? There is no safety for thee, young man, except in flight. In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Frank Samoylo CATHOLIC EDUCATION Students who receive an education in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition learn self-discipline and moral values that build character and create a strong work ethic leading them to make positive contributions to society and their community.
