TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME! S P I R I T UA L R E A D I N G & R E F L E C T I O N PRAYER OF GRATITUDE A prayer of gratitude will a l w a y s i n fl u e n c e o u r perceptions outside prayer. Once we are in the habit of thanking God for all that is happening in our life, including the harder challenges, a new realization awakens. The providential nature of events begins to show itself more. We see the hand of God more at work or at least trust implicitly that his reasons will show themselves in time. The actual presence of a divine request in a day s circumstances becomes more available to our attention. The sense of spiritual opportunity increases, the sense that God is giving us a chance to prove our love in still another way. All these effects are due to a c o n s c i o u s e f fo r t t o express gratitude to God for all he is doing. Father Donald Haggerty Fr. Haggerty is a priest of the Archdiocese of New York, and is currently serving at St. Agnes Church in N.Y.C. Magnificat October 2016 THAT IN ALL THINGS GOD MAY BE GLORIFIED! PAGE 2

Matthew Kauth, Rector, and the eight college seminarians of St. Joseph College Seminary will be visiting our parish next Sunday, October 16, 2016. The seminarians are: Matthew Dimock, Jr, Matthew Harrison, Aaron Huber, Peter Lyons, Kevin Martinez, Harry Ohlhaut, Peter Rusciolelli and Jose Palma Torres. All parishioners are invited to join them for a light lunch at Sunnydale from 12:30 to 2:00pm. The Diocese of Charlotte recently opened St. Joseph College Seminary [charlotteseminaryproject.org] in response to a growing interest in vocations. Bishop Peter Jugis officially announced news of St. Joseph College Seminary on March 19, the Feast of St. Joseph, as it has been placed under the patronage of St. Joseph, foster father of Our Lord. In August, eight young men enrolled in the first minor seminary, in our diocese, which is temporarily located on the campus of St. Ann Church, but there are plans to build a permanent home on or near the campus of Belmont Abbey College. [Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=p0zgetxm-co] All of the seminarians attend classes at Belmont Abbey College. The seminarians will begin their visit to our Church by sharing breakfast and fellowship with Fathers Arnsparger and Kauth and our faithful altar servers. The Sunday liturgy at 11:00am will be a High Mass with several of the seminarians participating in the liturgy. Following that Mass, all parishioners are invited to Sunnydale (Tryon) for a delicious luncheon reception to meet and greet these new seminarians of our diocese and to welcome Fr. Kauth back to our parish! GET FORMED DURING RESPECT LIFE MONTH October is Respect Life month. May we renew our commitment to defend life from conception to natural death.
