August - 2014 Page 2 SOUTH LAKE TAHOE YACHT CLUB SEPTEMBER - 2014 Page 1 COMMODORE S LOG I may sound like a broken record, I date myself, but we are still pursuing a clubhouse site. A TEAM CLUBHOUSE committee has been established to look at other options. We understand the opposition to the Calvary Chapel site i.e. location, condition of the building, mold issues?, parking space. It seems most of the club would like closer to the water, move in ready with restroom facilities and preferably some kitchen facilities, and more space. We will endeavor to keep you informed of our progress. The dues increase has been put off until, if & when, we go into an agreement for a new clubhouse site. On a related note we will be proposing a bylaws change to make dues due in the summer rather the end of the year. We felt this would be easier on members with Christmas and end of the year expenses in December and also coincide with new members joining in the summer. We also have a committee looking for members to serve on next year s Board of Directors. Many of the current board members have agreed to continue in their current position with the exception of Commodore, Rear Commodore, Port Captain and Secretary. If you have nominations for any office please forward the name(s) to me, Sharon Schultz or Nancy Farmer. Names of the candidates will be announced in the October and November Heave Ho s and voted on at the November General Membership meeting. Have a good Fall, go boating if you can, and stay in good health Doug Morris, Commodore

HEAVE HO SEPTEMBER - 2014 Page 2 NEWS FROM THE VICE It s been a lively month on the board. People complaining about having a second vote regarding the clubhouse issue, complaining about not selling liquor, complaining about selling off our alcohol (by the way, we turned in our liquor license). And not making any money for the club. Sometimes we forget we are chartered as a non-profit organization. By the way, the Board voted to repeal the $50 dues increase. Several people commented the Jan 1 date caused a hardship at the beginning of the New Year so the Board voted to extend the annual dues due date until June1, 2015. Additionally, the June date better coincides with the Membership Drive at the beginning of summer. By the time you get this we will have celebrated the beginning of football season at the Kuns s home. Richard and Susan always show us a great time with their big screen TV. We have a TGIF at the Sezgen s home on the 5 th. Again, this will be a BYOB event. Comments regarding the BYOB are requested. Thanks to the Kahlers for a great Labor Day gathering. This Club group has an outstanding talent for coming up with some great food for these kinds of events, TGIF s, Etc. The annual wine trip through the Eldorado Hills is scheduled for October 9. Twenty spots are available and a sign-up list will be available at our events. Looking ahead to October, schedule time for the Octoberfest/Halloween party on October 30 th. We will be returning to the Camp Richardson Boathouse. Barbara Marsden will be the Cruise Captain for the event and she will be looking for planners to set up the day before. We are looking for nominations for Yachtsman of the Year. Send your suggestions, with supporting reasons to Jerry Kahler, Linda Morris, or myself. Many of the Board volunteered to continue their assignments into the next year. The C l u b h o w e v e r i s i n n e e d o f a Commodore, a Rear Commodore, a secretary and a Port Captain. HEAVE HO SEPTEMBER - 2014 Page 5 FROM THE BOAT GUY Thanks for the rain we ve had this summer. Otherwise we might be dragging the bottom for sure. Getting out at the Marina might be a little exciting for those whose vessels draw a lot of water. May have to drive our trucks into the water just to get deep enough, I hope not. Sorry about the failure to schedule a campout. Too many obstacles arose. Be aware now, after Labor Day, the buoys at boat camp are on a first come basis. It s nice to tie off and enjoy the calm with a good secure buoy and not fight with the anchor. For those of you who wait till the last moment it could come sooner than usual due to the cooler weather we are having even now. Begin thinking about a pull date. During the winter months, pray for lots of snow. We need a lot of water to get the Lake level up. JEFF WILLIAMS, The Boat Guy PICYA Report August, 2014 Wheelchair Regatta September 27, 2014 Needs Your Help Veterans attending the annual PICYA Wheelchair Regatta are presented with a Goodie Bag to take home. PICYA is currently soliciting donations of these items to include in the bags. These may be full size items, travel size or the ones we all bring home from hotels. HEAVE HO SEPTEMBER - 2014 Page 6 TEAM CLUBHOUSE Our newly formed "Team Clubhouse" has been instructed to "Look at all options", "Think outside the box", and "Search everywhere at the south end of the lake". We also have an ongoing list of "wants" which we continue to add to our search criteria which we are developing from casual conversation with other club members when we see them. Here is the list we have so far: 1). Waterfront 2). Move-in ready (no leaks or mold) 3). Good parking 4). Storage 5). Enough space inside with good lighting 6). Outdoor area would be nice 7). Waterfront 8). Kitchen 9). Building that looks like someone "cares" 10). Affordable 11). Waterfront 12). Exclusive use by our club(s) 13). Nice view 14). Nice bathrooms Oh, did I remember to mention waterfront"??? Please send any ideas or leads to us and we will investigate. Feel free to contact Norma Severloh, Ernie Jones, Lew Long or myself. We are in search mode and welcome all input. Nancy Farmer from "Team Clubhouse" PROPOSED BY-LAW REVISION At the August Board of Directors meeting, the Board determined it would be better to have our annual dues payable at the beginning of the boating season. As a result with almost unanimous approval we approved a change in the due date to June 1. This change requires an amendment to the by-laws which must be approved by a majority vote of the members voting at the General Membership meeting in November. ARTICLE III, SECTION 3.3 as written: Dues shall be payable when the first notice is received with the November newsletter. A second notice will be sent with the December newsletter. A final notice will be sent with the January newsletter and dues shall be delinquent if not received by the Treasurer prior to January 31. If a member s dues are not paid by the delinquent date, his membership shall be automatically terminated. Should a member, so terminated, wish to reinstate his membership, he must send his request in writing to the Board of Directors prior to the March Board Meeting, accompanying the request with a check for the dues. The Directors shall act favorably on his request unless good cause appears to the contrary. BY-LAW REVISION WILL BE WRITTEN AS FOLLOWS: 3.3 Dues are payable by June 1. A notice will be included in the March/April newsletter and a final notice will be included in the May newsletter. Dues shall be delinquent if payment is not received by the Treasurer prior to June 30. If a member s dues are not paid by the delinquent date, his membership shall be automatically terminated. Should a member, so terminated, wish to reinstate his membership, he must send his request in writing to the Board of Directors prior to the July Board Meeting, accompanying the request with a check for the dues. The Directors shall act favorably on his request unless good cause appears to the contrary.
