Dear People of St Patrick Parish: A Message from Our Pastor Today we begin a spiritual journey which can enrich our love for God and better understand His love, mercy and forgiveness to all people. As we stand holding our blessed palms, we acknowledge we are followers of Jesus Christ and proud of it. He, Jesus, entered Jerusalem to die and redeem us. We know God loves us because He sent his only son to die and redeem us. Thank you Lord. As we listen to the proclamation of the Gospel of St. Luke, it will give us much to think about if we listen and participate. Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings at 8:00am, we will gather as the people of God to pray the Divine Morning Prayer recited all over the world by Catholics. We hope you will try to join us here at St. Patrick for the morning prayer. The children in our Catholic school and our Faith Formation classes have all been to confession and reconciliation in preparation for Easter. Now it is time for parents, grandparents and godparents and all of us to do the same. Monday night at 7:30pm, ten priests will be available to help us go to confession. Please also see the other days and times for individual confession at St. Patrick. Thursday night, we remember the Last Supper, the giving of the Body and Blood of Jesus to us, which we receive at every Mass. Twelve parishioners will have their feet washed to represent all the parish in this act of love and service that Jesus did for the twelve apostles. We can also spend time in prayer after Mass until midnight before the Blessed Sacrament. Friday, we gather to hear the words of Jesus from the cross, these seven last words will begin at 2:00pm and conclude at 3:30pm. Fr. Larry will lead the prayers and talks. At 7:30pm, we gather to hear the Gospel of John on the Passion, we kiss and embrace the cross and we receive Holy Communion. The Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday at 8:00pm is a beautiful liturgy, longer than usual, but very prayerful in renewing the meaning of the Sacrament of Baptism. Glory and Praise He is Risen, our Salvation has been won. Will we accept it and try to follow Jesus in our lives? Every Christian should attend church on Easter Sunday and for us Catholics, we come to Mass and if possible, receive Holy Communion. Are your ready for the journey and will you encourage your family to join you? Let all of us pray for one another and let this Year of Mercy be a real spiritual event in our lives. God Bless, Fr. Larry Young Pastor
News ~ Information ~ Events Jubilee Year of Mercy March 20 Palm Sunday of the Lord s Passion Misericordiae Vultus: The Face of Mercy is Pope Francis official decree announcing this Jubilee Year of Mercy. But Francis had already declared that Jesus has shown the face of God s mercy back in 2013 on his first Palm Sunday as pope. Francis described Luke s account of Jesus entrance into Jerusalem: Crowds, celebrating, praise, blessing, peace: joy fills the air. Jesus has awakened great hopes, especially in the hearts of the simple, the humble, the poor, the forgotten, those who do not matter in the eyes of the world. He understands human sufferings... has bent down to heal body and soul. Entering Jerusalem, Jesus looks at all of us with love, Francis continued, at our sicknesses and sins. A beautiful scene, full of light the light of the love of Jesus (Pope Francis, Palm Sunday homily, March 24, 2013). May this Jubilee Year s Holy Week and Triduum make us Jesus own light-bearers and love-givers to all who long to see the Face of Mercy. Peter Scagnelli, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. Pontifical Good Friday Collection Pope Francis has asked our parish to support Christians in the Holy Land. Through the Good Friday Collection, you join with Catholics around the world to stand in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace in a troubled land. In these challenging times in the Middle East, your support means that our church will conduct parish ministry, provide Catholic education, feed the hungry, build housing for Christians, maintain shrines and operate refugee centers in the Holy Land. Christians, along with all the clergy and religious who serve in the Holy Land, will deeply appreciate your prayers and financial help. The political, religious and military challenges in the Holy Land are more complex than ever. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. Our parish will support Christians in the Holy Land through the Good Friday Collection, as requested by Pope Francis. Like Simon of Cyrene, you can help carry the cross under very difficult circumstances in the Holy Land. Easter 2016 A.D. Dear People of St. Patrick: This Holy Week is a wonderful time to experience Jesus Christ, to reconnect with the traditions of our Catholic Faith and find peace and hope in these troubled times. Palm Sunday, we wear red to Mass to remind us that like the people of Jerusalem, we acknowledge and show our love for Jesus and thank Him for giving His life to save us. Our Parish Penance Service on Monday, prepares us to worthily receive the Body and Blood of Jesus on Thursday, Friday and Easter. Every Catholic should go to Reconciliation at least once a year. Holy Thursday night, we celebrate the Mass of the Lord s Supper. We spend some time in quiet prayer as we remember His agony in the garden and receive Holy Communion. Good Friday, spend some time praying and reflecting upon the Seven Last Words of Jesus from the Cross. Come to the Good Friday Liturgy at 7:30pm. Holy Saturday, we celebrate baptism and prepare for the Great Joy of Easter Sunday. As Christians, we celebrate joy in our Glorious Savior, Jesus Christ.
