JUNE 18-19, 2016 THE PSTOR S CORNER Father s Day The best gift a father can give his children is to be a role model as a man of prayer. We spend so much time at work, on emails, and working out, but how much time do our children see their fathers spending in prayer? The most important thing to do is schedule it into your day. s a spiritual father, I, too, struggle with this and must commit to making time to pray every day. This will be what sustains me and my parishes. I hope all fathers take the time today to commit to praying with their families so it will sustain and invigorate their children to have a prayer life. I also hope that all fathers realize that their vocation is to get their families to heaven. lthough their daily work is important, it is their true vocation to lead their families in the faith. Let s try to renew this vow to our vocation again this year as we celebrate our fathers those who are with us today and those who have been granted eternal life. men? men. THE REDINGS for THIS W EEK Zechariah 12:10-11; 13:1 Psalm 63:2-6, 8-9 Galatians 3:26-29 Luke 9:18-24 Jesus is praying; then he turns to the disciples to ask them who the crowds say he is. Mark places this incident at Caesarea Philippi. Luke, however, because of the importance he wishes to give to prayer in his Gospel, places it in the context of Jesus praying. The disciples answer that people say he is one of any number of the prophets who have died, from the recent John the Baptist to a prophet from long ago. He then asks the disciples directly who they say he is. Peter answers for them that Jesus is the Messiah of God. Immediately Jesus tells them not to tell anyone, not because he doesn t want people to know, but because they don t understand what being the Messiah means. Jesus then answers his own question about his identity by explaining who he really is one who must suffer, die, and be raised on the third day. He then explains to all present what true discipleship really is. It means following in the same path as the Messiah, suffering and dying. True life is found by giving up life. Whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. Luke 9:24 (Reprinted from www.loyolapress.com/sunday-connection) 3

SINT CECILI ROMN CTHOLIC PRISH CLO S E R L OOK T OUR FITH KNOW SINTS YOUR St. gnes of ssisi (1197-1253) CTECHESIS (kat i-ke sis) n. When must we refuse to obey the State? No one may follow orders from the State that violate God s laws. [2242-2246, 2256-2257] It was Peter who called us to practice only a relative obedience toward the State when he said, We must obey God rather than men (cts 5:29). If a State should establish laws and procedures that are racist, sexist, or destructive of human life, a Christian is obliged in conscience to refuse to obey, to refrain from participation, and to offer resistance. (YOUCT question 377) gnes was the sister of St. Clare and her first follower. When gnes left home two weeks after Clare s departure, their family attempted to bring gnes back by force. They tried to drag her out of the monastery, but all of a sudden her body became so heavy that several knights could not budge it. Her uncle Monaldo tried to strike her but was temporarily paralyzed. The knights then left gnes and Clare in peace. gnes matched her sister in devotion to prayer and in willingness to endure the strict penances which characterized their lives at San Damiano. In 1221 a group of Benedictine nuns in Monticelli (near Florence) asked to become Poor Clares. St. Clare sent gnes to become abbess of that monastery. gnes soon wrote a rather sad letter about how much she missed Clare and the other nuns at San Damiano. fter establishing other Poor Clare monasteries in northern Italy, gnes was recalled to San Damiano in 1253 when Clare was dying. gnes followed Clare in death three months later, and was canonized in 1753. www.americancatholic.org 3 ROME 2017 Parish Pilgrimage Visit www.stceciliacincinnati.org for details Becoming CTHOLIC Seeking faith? JUNE 18-19, 2016 PSTO R S RMBLINGS 1 CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION: s usual, we celebrated the Feast of Corpus Christi with great ceremony, thoughtfulness and reverence. t the conclusion of the 10 a.m. Mass, we had our annual Corpus Christi procession (photos, above and right). That procession, which is led by the servers, followed by the priest and then the whole congregation, made its way down Madison Road to Oakley Square. t Oakley Square, we sang hymns of praise to the Holy Eucharist, and all in attendance were blessed by the Eucharist at the two altars that were set up beforehand. Indeed, the procession was a great witness to our belief in and our gratitude to God for the Holy Eucharist. Special thanks to our Worship Commission who worked so hard to make sure everything was coordinated perfectly. 1 WELCOME, CHILDREN OF GOD: On June 5, after the 10 a.m. Mass, two boys were baptized into our Church. Please welcome and pray for our newly baptized members Ethan James (photo, below left), the son of James and Elizabeth Triantos, and Edward Timothy (photo, below right), the son of Tim and Kirsten Loftus. 1 CONGRTULTIONS: On June 4, we had two weddings here at St.. t 1 p.m., parishioners dam and Maria Frazier (photo, below left) ministered the Sacrament of Marriage to one another. The officiant was Fr. Jamie. t 6 p.m., parishioners Rebecca and Charles Hobing (photo, below right) ministered the Sacrament of Marriage to each other, as well. The officiant of their wedding was Bishop Joseph Binzer, Charles s uncle. Congratulations to both of these lovely couples. 5
