The Changing Philosophies and Identities of Malcolm X Objectives: To collaboratively discuss and analyze how Malcolm X's experiences as Malcolm Little, Detroit Red, Malcolm X, and el-hajj Malik el-shabazz shaped his life. Each group will represent a different period in the life of Malcolm X and complete a poster board or slide show capturing aspects of Malcom X s various identities. The slide shows/posterboards will be presented for a 5 week exam grade. Malcolm X was a powerful voice in American history. In his short lifetime he went through several significant shifts in his lifestyle and philosophy. The hardships that Malcolm endures as a child led to his fascination with life in the fast lane, where he used his wits as a hustler and thief. However, the tenacity and intellect of Malcolm X the human being propelled him from his prison cell to the extraordinary stature with which the world recognizes him today. TASKS Readers (All). Read and Complete Mark The Text Chart (EXIT for 2 days) Slide Master-Complete the cause/effect chart and include it in your slide show/ posterboard. Student: Summarizer Write a paragraph summary of the text you have read. Draft and type final version. Analyze Malcolm X s development that you encounter in the text. Identify the events that are connected to this development. Cite textual evidence to support your main ideas. Include this in your slide show or posterboard Student: Graphic Illustrator: Find 3-5 images using GOOGLE IMAGES that capture Malcolm X s life during this time period and write captions that explain the images. Student: Music Master: Select a song from this time period or a song that captures an aspect of Malcolm s life. Write a 6-8 sentence explanation of the main message of the song. Select a few lines from the song as evidence of the message, analyze their meaning, and write a concluding statement about how this song applies to Malcolm s life.
