St.Francis Assembly 3495 Cardinal McGuigan Province 2 nd Ontario District Master: Sir Knight Joe Mathews Faithful Navigator:Sir Knight Michael Dynes St.Marys Parish-Collingwood Ontario The Sentinel Newsletter -November 2015- Issue #15
Our Patron Saint : The Prayer of Saint Francis Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled as to console, To be understood as to understand, To be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; It is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life. Attributed to Francis Bernadone, perhaps the most universally loved of Christian saints, who was born in Assisi, Italy, in 1181 or 1182. At the age of twenty-two, after a sudden illness that brought him almost to the point of death, he left his home and inheritance to follow an injunction that he felt he received from Christ himself: "Francis, go and rebuild my Church." Three great Franciscan orders quickly grew around the monks, nuns, and lay disciples who responded to his joyful example of universal love and selfless service. For most men who follow Jesus, there comes a time when duty extends beyond our own lives, beyond how we lead our families, and into how we serve our
fellow man. That's what the Knights of Columbus is all about. The Patriotic Degree allows K of C members to take this one step further. "Sir Knight" is more than a title it s an honor. Wednesday November 25th 2015- NEXT MEETING- St Marys Parish Hall @ 7:30 PM Note there will be a sword drill 15 minutes prior to each meeting so bring your word and chapeau NOTE: There will be NO December Meeting Facts Feastday: November 25 St. Catherine of Alexandria, Virgin and Martyr whose feast day is November 25th. She is the patroness of philosophers and preachers. St. Catherine is believed to have been born in Alexandria of a noble family. Converted to Christianity through a vision, she denounced Maxentius for persecuting Christians. Fifty of her converts were then burned to death by Maxentius. Maxentius offered Catherine a royal marriage if she would deny the Faith. Her refusal landed her in prison. While in prison, and while Maxentius was away, Catherine converted Maxentius' wife and two hundred of his soldiers. He had them all put to death. Catherine was likewise condemned to death. She was put on a spiked wheel, and when the wheel broke, she was beheaded. She is venerated as the patroness of philosophers and preachers. St. Catherine's was one of the voices heard by St. Joan of Arc.
Maxentius' blind fury against St. Catherine is symbolic of the anger of the world in the face of truth and justice. When we live a life of truth and justice, we can expect the forces of evil to oppose us. Our perseverance in good, however, will be everlasting. From The Desk Of The Worthy Faithful Navigator: November 2015 St. Francis Assembly # 3495 150 St. Paul Street, Suite 205 Collingwood, Ontario L9Y 3P2 Sr. Knights, I hope all is well with you and you re Family. We just completed our Honor Guard November 11 th Remembrance Day Parade, thanks to our Commanders Mike or Greg for their leadership once again, also a thanks to Sir Knight Rene, Adam Lorne for their participation. I have put together some items for our newsletter hoping others will join in as there are members who are not so fortunate to be in good health and can attend our meetings. Please keep them in your prayers. Our Newsletter is a way of updating them as to what is happening and what is coming up. One thing we can all do is make contact with those that are not well and say hello spend a few minutes with them. We will not be holding a meeting in December as it will fall too close to Christmas instead we will hold a pot luck Sunday meeting in January where our wives will join in after a brief meeting, it should be a great event having the best part of us there to celebrate a new year. Please plan to attend, your wives deserve it if you are not married bring a guest. Some details are still to be worked out. I am continuing my efforts to increase our membership, do you have any ideas? Do you know someone that may join our Assembly? Vivat Jesus FN Michael Dynes Sir Knights a Christmas list for your family to consider for you Sir Knights, I have put these pages and location of merchants and price listings for a reason. As a member of the Assembly it falls upon you to have the attire for the dress code of a 4 th degree member. At a minimum you as a member should have what is call you re uniform and if you wish to be part of the Honor Guard then you would require the complete Regalia. All of us know this when we join the 4 th degree. What is a uniform? Black tuxedo, bow tie, black shoes, suspenders, cummerbund, men s lay down tuxedo shirt. What is full regalia? All of the previous mention plus sword, admiral hat with white feathers, Cape, service baldric and white gloves. Well Sir Knights this is a lot to consider but there are ways to keep cost down, ask you family to help all of these items put together is a lot, ask your family for gifts, birthdays, Christmas, father s day etc, most people can afford a lot of these items and if you review the below items there is room for cost cutting. If you wish to buy used then there is nothing wrong with that, I am sure there are many ways to do so. We are looking to have all members at the minimum have their uniform. Sir Knights I do wish to let all know that the intend of this is to brings us together as a patriotic order so this exercise is necessary and to the point.
