Intermediate Junior I, II & III Teacher Training Program The B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Institute Amsterdam will offer in 2008 again an intensive yoga course to prepare yoga students holding the Introductory II teacher certificate for Intermediate junior I assessment and for students holding the Intermediate junior I or II the yoga course will prepare for assessment Intermediate Junior II or III. Like last year the Intermediate Teacher Training Program consists of 3 weekend workshops plus a 7 day intensive. A compact program as we have to accommodate students with different agenda s and wishes and coming from different countries. This set up turned out to be successful. Note: this intermediate junior I, II & III Teacher Training Program is also open to students who are not doing their assessment under the patronage of the B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Association Holland. The students who complete the course successfully will receive 2 recommendations from our teacher training staff. With these they will be accepted as candidate for assessment in their own country. As of now the dates for the Intermediate Junior assessments are not known yet but probably (under restriction) will take place by the end of February 2009. Dates Introductory weekend: Saturday, May 31 & Sunday, June 1, 2008 7 day intensive: Monday 14 thru Sunday, July 20, 2008 Evaluation weekend: Saturday 1 & Sunday, November 2, 2008 Final weekend: Saturday 24 & Sunday, January 25, 2008 Introductory weekend During the first weekend May 31 & June 1 all the students will be personally evaluated by the teachers their teaching and their practice. As each student can learn from all the other students this will be group sessions. This means that all the students will be present during the whole weekend. During these classes the teachers will tell the students what their strong points and what their weak points are. The students have to present asana s and they will be invited to teach asana s. Their will be space for discussions monitored by the teachers. During this weekend the requirements concerning anatomy and philosophy will be discussed. Here the students will have to do homework. During the Summer week the anatomy and philosophy teachers will prepare the students for the exams.

Both on Saturday and Sunday there will be 3 classes: 10.00 13.00 hrs 14.00 16.00 hrs 17.00 19.00 hrs 7 day intensive The program during July 14 20 will be as follow: 10.00 13.00 hrs : practicing the asana s in the syllabus and teaching 14.00 16.00 hrs : alternating anatomy/ philosophy and self practice/teaching 16.00 18.00 hrs : practicing asana s/teaching, discussion, Q&A The first 3 days the emphasis will be on practicing the asana s from the syllabus and the other important asana s from the Introductory I & II levels or the Intermediate Junior I and II levels. We Gradually more time will be spent on the teaching. The students will teach each other in small groups monitored by the teachers. This in a situation similar to the exams. Evaluation weekend During the weekend of November 1 & 2 the progress of the students since the intensive Summer week will be evaluated. On Saturday morning the syllabuses Intermediate Junior I & II will be practiced. Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning the teaching skills of the students will be tested. Sunday afternoon there will be an evaluation of each student. In this session it will be clear who has earned the recommendation for taking the assessment by the Assessment Committee of the B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Association Holland. As the staff of the B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training Program feels strongly that students who want to do the assessment for Intermediate Junior I, II & III should be very well prepared by ways of a special study program they will only recommend those students who have successfully completed this teacher training program. Final weekend The weekend of January 24 & 25, 2009 should be considered as a grand rehearsal. All the accepted students are well prepared for the exams! Please note: according to the RIMYI applicants for Intermediate Junior I, II & III assessments must submit recommendations from two teachers certified at least one level higher than that for which the candidate is applying. Recommending teachers should recommend only candidates whom they judge capable of passing the assessment at the time you are writing the recommendation. Recommending teachers or mentors must have seen the candidate teach either in person or on video.

Registration & Costs Students who want to do the Intermediate Junior I assessment need to hold an Introductory I & II certificate for a minimum of 18 months. For Intermediate II and III assessment a minimum of 1 year since Junior I or II certification. To apply for the Intermediate Junior Teacher Training Program an application form needs to be filled out. It s available at the Program s administration office at the address below.
