It is my esteemed honor to greet you as the 13th president of the Greatest Chapter "Mighty Rho" in the greatest fraternity in the world. This is an exciting time in Rho chapter as we approach our 90th anniversary. There will be a ceremony on November 3rd on the campus of Temple University for brothers only and then another in the spring. The summer is coming to a close and now it is time to get to the business of Alpha. Many committees have been meeting through the summer and are planning many exciting activities and projects to continue the excellence expected by the brothers of "Mighty Rho" chapter. Brothers, your service and commitment is definitely needed and expected in order for "Mighty Rho" chapter to be successful. I would like for you to remember the reason why you wanted to be an Alpha. Let's revisit and rekindle that Alpha spirit!!! Remember, "to be an Alpha man means more than just to wear a pin." There is a place for you to serve in RHO; there are committees that need your dedication and expertise. We are striving to become the premier chapter in Alpha. We also will continue to be the premier organization servicing the Philadelphia area. We are planning a run for Chapter of the year and we need the support of all of Rho chapter. Brothers, this was an election year in the fraternity. Congratulations to Brother Darryl Mathews our 32nd General President in Alpha. He is a friend of Rho chapter and has committed to come and meet with us in the coming months. There were many constitutional changes made at this summer's convention here in Philadelphia. Congratulations to my brothers of Rho for having the most registered brothers at the convention and being awarded the spirit of Alpha award. At our June meeting, I asked everyone to bring at least one brother to this September's meeting. Brothers, let's increase our attendance and membership by reclaiming brothers and bringing them with you to our September meeting. Let's make this year the best yet in Rho history. We are calling all brothers to the meeting, we have some there, but we need some more. The newfraternalyear is beginning; make sure that you jump on the "Alpha Train". Fraternally Yours, Brother Ernest M. Merriweather Jr. it i

Rho Brothers FIooded...On Sunday, August 1,2004, the flood gates opened and rushed into over 100 homes in Southwest Philly including Brothers George Hatten and Larry Smart. Brother Hatten was in Virginia, but his mother's car in his driveway was totaled. Their basements and garages were totaled as well as Brother Smart's car. They are working frantically toward restoring their properties Several Rho Brothers went out and assisted in the clean-up. Keep the "flooded Brothers" and their families in your prayers and thoughts. Welcome home...brother D'Andre Simmons from his concert tour in Europe. Congratulations... To Brother James Reeves for being honored by an esteem group of African American men in Law Enforcement. The Constitution Convention was held August 5-8, 2004 at the PMladelphia Marriott. During the convention, approximately 77 proposals were discussed for adoption to the National constitution. Brothers were in attendance from all regions. Out of the 77 proposals, 13 were passed by Brothers. These proposals will now be sent to the chapters for further discussion. Of the 13 that were proposals that were passed included one to raise Grand Tax effective September 1, 2005. Alumni $150 & College $75. Another proposal would raise the Life Membership fee to $3000 and Brothers would have five years instead of three years, to pay it off. There was also discussion of going to annual Conventions instead of bi-annual. Past General President Milton C. Davis was on hand to defend why we went to bi-annual conventions. This topic is still up for discussion. College Brothers were in full swing to get in their proposals, but many of them did not pass. The final session took longer than expected due to constant questioning of procedures, what exactly we were voting on, and general confusion. In the end Brothers stayed the course and got through the voting. Another highlight was the program sponsored by Rho Chapters National Programs Committee headed by Brother Jeffery Williams. The committee sponsored a Voteless People is a Hopeless People program on August 5, 2004. The program highlighted J. Wyatt Mondesire, Brother W. Wilson Goode, Jr., Vanetta Charles Reader, William Fox, and State Rep. Jewell Williams. They lead the discussion on the "Voting Rights Act of 1965" and how we are voting today. Past General President Ozell Sutton stopped by to give remarks. The program was well attended with over 20 Rho Brothers giving support. Congratulations go to brother Williams for pulling off this program. 2
