THE CHURCH Westgate Chapel exists to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ where they are pursuing 3 Vital Relationships: Intimacy with God, Community with Believers and Influence with Non-Believers. The church has a rich 155 year history in the greater Toledo area and has been led by committed men of God who provided unswerving Biblical Christian leadership in the churches formative years. These pastors included Dr. Thomas Mosely, who later went on to become the President of Nyack College of Nyack, New York and Dr. A.W. Tozer, who authored more than 40 books, including Christan classics such as The Pursuit of God and The Knowledge of the Holy. Westgate Chapel is part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination which is comprised of over 6 million people worldwide. The heart beat of the Christian and Missionary Alliance is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the least reached parts of our world and to see the Great Commission completed in our lifetime. Lead Pastor Pastor Rob has been married to his wife Rochelle for 17 years and they have three children together: Garrett, Rylee and Gracie. Rob and his family came to us from Southern California 8 years ago as our High School Ministries Pastor and Rob was installed as our Lead Pastor in May of 2017. Rob received his BA in Christian Education and a minor in Biblical Studies from Biola University and is in the process of completing his Masters of Divinity from Moody Theological Seminary. Rob loves preaching, leadership development, shepherding, vision casting and the missional movement of the church. In his spare time he enjoys his kids sporting events, dance recitals, date nights with his wife, golf, playing guitar and Angel s Baseball. Ministry Leadership The church staff includes five full time pastors, five full time directors and eight full and part time ministry support staff. Priorities Over the next five-ten years, by God s grace and leading, Westgate Chapel intends to: Double overall Life Group participation Make a strategic shift in outreach toward neighborhood initiatives Expand our community partnership with That Neighborhood Church in Toledo Develop new ministry partnerships to reach the least reached communities in Toledo Develop a missions/ministry intern program to train the next generation of leaders Pay off our mortgage debt to expand Missional opportunities NOTE: These priorities are in early stage focus as our elder board and staff continue to define them and turn them into measurable goals. Facilities Westgate Chapel s campus sits on 15 acres just off of Central Ave./I-475. The church building is comprised of 84,000 sq. ft. of ministry space which includes a worship center that seats 1000, a full children s & youth wing with separate auditorium, a full size gymnasium with 2 full basketball courts, a complete commercial grade kitchen, numerous classrooms, a chapel, prayer room, green room, nursing room for new mom s, and the W Cafe. There is also a regulation baseball field that sits on our property and a large grass area next to it for church picnics and other outdoor activities throughout the year. Finances Westgate Chapel is a generous and financially sound church. The 2017 budget is $1.9 million. Above regular tithes and offerings, Westgate Chapel gives $60,000 a year to fund That Neighborhood Church and over $400,000 a year to Missions. THE POSITION Under the leadership of the Lead Pastor, the Executive Pastor will ensure that our mission to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ (growing in our 3 vital relationships) is pursued with clarity, our church family is cared for with excellence, and our resources are managed well. He will fall on the ministry execution side of the Executive Pastor continuum more than the business side. He will insure that the mission, vision, values and strategies of the church are executed with excellence through staff and volunteers according to our ministry plans and budget. His mandate is to form a close bond of trust with the lead pastor, speak and act as his representative, thereby freeing him to focus on vision, preaching and shepherding.
Spiritual Qualifications Is a born-again believer through faith in Jesus Christ, having made a personal profession of faith in Jesus Christ and has evidence of God s call into full-time ministry. Lives consistently with and in commitment to the requirements of an Elder as set forth in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. Demonstrates a vital and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, is a person of prayer and the Word, and is a model of a Biblical pattern of life and leadership while demonstrating a love for God and His people. Shows evidence of control by the Holy Spirit in all aspects of personal life and ministry. Personal Qualifications Energized by a love for Jesus Christ expressed in a warm love for the people of God. Maintains a fresh and vital daily prayer and devotional life. Possesses the ability to find a healthy balance between work and family responsibilities. Sets appropriate boundaries to protect character and integrity. Committed to personal, local, national and global outreach/missions. A strong, positive, resilient leader passionate about results; reliable in execution. Capable of assessing assumptions, implications, and practical consequences. Understands and develops strategy while working hands-on to accomplish goals. Consistently demonstrate mature judgment, high integrity, and well-developed leadership skills to make intelligent decisions and manage complex initiatives. Possesses the ability to diplomatically change the status quo, set expectations, and hold individuals accountable for results. Committed to being a team player who takes interest in the personal and spiritual growth of staff and volunteers. Never forgets that he is a pastor first and an executive second. This role demands a balance between gentle pastoring and effective managing. Professional Qualifications 10-15 years of demonstrated experience as a senior leader in for profit, not-for-profit, or church environment with direct management of others. Bachelor s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field. Bachelor s or Master s degree in Biblical studies/theology preferred and shown preference. Is licensable by the Christian and Missionary Alliance and is in full agreement with the Doctrinal Statement, mission and purpose of the C&MA and Westgate Chapel. Proven track record of leadership development on the professional or lay level. Possesses strong organizational, analytical, and administrative skills. Superior people skills across many demographics. Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate the intent and value of church missions, strategy, and plans. (Preaching is not a main function of this role) A proponent of team building and is themselves a strong team player with the desire to break down silos in ministry. Maintains a strong network of relevant ministry professionals. Expertise with standard office technology, information systems, and web platforms.
Essential Job Functions Represent the Lead Pastor in all ministries of the church. The Lead Pastor and Executive Pastor must pursue a healthy relationship that allows them to share ministry responsibilities that best reflect their strongest gifts and bring the highest value to the congregation. They MUST speak with one voice. Lead the ministry staff in developing and executing ministry plans with excellence so the mission of the church is accomplished by establishing and maintaining a set of key performance measures that provide the Lead Pastor, Elder Board, and church staff with ongoing visibility of the effectiveness of all functional areas of the church. Provide direct oversight to the Discipleship Pastor, Outreach & Volunteer Director, High School Ministry Pastor, Middle School Ministry Pastor, Children s Director and Business Manager. Insure operational readiness of the church through leadership and oversight of support staff, human resources, business processes, policies, and technology serving finance, guest and member information, and facilities systems. Develop, oversee and manage the Westgate Chapel budgeting process in conjunction with the business manager, ensuring that all guidelines for budget expenses and purchases are followed by staff members. Manage the church debt elimination campaign. Build effective community partnerships with other organizations and oversee the Missions arm of the church. Other duties assigned by the Lead Pastor for the benefit of the church.
