Porter, K.H.S., Ph.D., Professor of Systematic Theology and Director, Turro Seminary Library, was honored as Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology s Researcher of the Year, at the University s annual Research Luncheon, at Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ, on April 11, 2014.! Reverend Monsignor Joseph R. Chapel, S.T.D., Associate Spiritual Director; Associate Professor of Moral Theology; Co-Director, Institute for Christian Spirituality; and Director, Center for Diaconal Formation, has accepted the appointment as Spiritual Director of the Casa Santa Maria in Rome, Italy. In this role, Monsignor Chapel will oversee the program of spiritual formation for the graduate house of studies, in addition to serving as an adjunct spiritual director for the American Seminary in Rome, the Pontifical North American College. Monsignor Chapel s appointment is a distinct honor

for him in addition to being a recognition of his many gifts and talents. Speaking Engagements! Reverend Christopher M. Fox, Ph.D., Professor of Pastoral Theology, presented Pope Francis Joy of the Gospel. Lecture, at St. Cassian Parish, Upper Montclair, NJ, on May 12, 2014. 3

Special Events! Reverend Monsignor Gerard H. McCarren, S.T.D., Associate Professor of Systematic Theology and Spiritual Director, collaborated with Reverend Monsignor Joseph R. Reilly, S.T.L., Ph.D., Rector/Dean, on planning and coordinating Days of Recollection for Priests during Advent and Lent, an initiative of Monsignor Reilly. Days of Recollection took place on December 2, 2013 and March 18, 2014.! Reverend John J. Chadwick, S.T.D., Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology, Reverend Christopher M. Ciccarino, S.S.L., S.T.D., Associate Dean for Seminary and Academic Studies and Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies, and Reverend Pablo T. Gadenz, S.S.L., S.T.D., Associate Professor of Biblical Studies, led a group of 41 seminarians from Immaculate Conception Seminary on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land from December 29, 2013-January 9, 2014, lecturing at the biblical sites and celebrating Mass at the shrines marking events in the life of Jesus.! Reverend Monsignor Joseph R. Chapel, S.T.D., Associate Spiritual Director; Associate Professor of Moral Theology; Co-Director, Institute for Christian Spirituality; and Director, Center for Diaconal Formation, Reverend Monsignor Gerard H. McCarren, S.T.D., Associate Professor of Systematic Theology and Spiritual Director, collaborated with Reverend Monsignor Joseph R. Reilly, S.T.L., Ph.D., Rector/Dean, on planning and coordinating Monsignor Reilly s initiative Fratres in Unum, a periodic gathering for recent priest alumni of Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology. The initial meeting of Fratres in Unum was held at ICSST in April 2013. The group met again at ICSST on February 26, 2014. 4

Mission and Service! Reverend Monsignor Joseph R. Chapel, S.T.D., Associate Spiritual Director; Associate Professor of Moral Theology; Co-Director, Institute for Christian Spirituality; and Director, Center for Diaconal Formation: o Has continued service as a board member of the Promise Foundation, in Ridgewood, NJ. This foundation works to fight melanoma. o Has continued his extensive service to the impoverished of El Salvador. This service includes: " Serving as Founder and Director of El Salvador Education and Development Fund, Franklin Lakes, NJ, which provides educational scholarships for orphans and provides extensive funding for reconstruction projects for the Aldea Infantil San Antonio, San Miguel, El Salvador. Monsignor Chapel traveled to El Salvador two times in 2013-2014 for this work. " Providing ongoing fundraising and spiritual assistance for Hermanas Franciscanas Cooperadoras Parroquiales de la Asunción, in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. Monsignor Chapel provides direct assistance to their mission, the Aldea Infantil San Antonio children s orphanage in San Miguel, El Salvador. As part of this service, Monsignor Chapel led a fundraising Trip to El Salvador and Guatemala to gather video footage for a mission appeal for Hermanas Franciscanas Cooperadoras Parroquiales de la Asunción, from June 19-29, 2014. " Serving as Chaplain for the SHU Campus Ministry/DOVE Mission Trip to El Salvador, which was to be held during Christmas Break, January 2014 (for the 11 th year). In this role, Monsignor Chapel participated in all of the weekly 5

preparation and training from September-December 2013, but the trip itself was canceled due to the activity of a volcano at the destination. o Served as Chaplain to the FOCUS Evangelization Boat Mission to the Amazon River region of Brazil and to World Youth Day, in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, from July 8-August 1, 2013. o Presented The Moral Life of the Deacon: Sacramental Identity. Formation talk, for the Diocese of Paterson Permanent Diaconate Formation Program, at St. Paul Inside the Walls: The Catholic Center for Evangelization at Bayley-Ellard, Madison, NJ, on September 7, 2013. o Presented Preparing Children for Confession. Lecture, at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Franklin Lakes, NJ, on November 17, 2013. o Presented Challenge of Home Evangelization. Talk for student leaders, as part of the FOCUS Upper Room series, at Seton Hall University, on March 2, 2014. o Served as Chaplain to the FOCUS Evangelization Mission to Daule, Ecuador, during Spring Break, from March 8-16, 2014.! Justin M. Anderson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Moral Theology: o Is serving as a consultant to Seton Hall University s Stillman School of Business regarding the School s engagement of business ethics based on Catholic Social Teaching. This service began in July 2013, continued periodically throughout the 2013-2014 academic year, and is ongoing. 6

o Presented the following: " Two lectures to the contemplative branch of the Missionaries of Charity, Plainfield, NJ: The Virtue of Justice. March 20, 2014. The Virtue of Fortitude. June 3, 2014. " Evangelii Gaudium: Being a Missionary Disciple in Daily Life. Lecture, to the Family Cenacle of St. Joseph, at the Shrine of St. Joseph, Stirling, NJ, on June 7, 2014.! Reverend Monsignor Gerard H. McCarren, S.T.D., Associate Professor of Systematic Theology and Spiritual Director: o Has continued service on the board of Directors of The Newman Association of America. On August 10, 2013, Monsignor McCarren was elected Vice President. He also serves as the Board of Directors liaison to NAA s office, which moved to Seton Hall under the auspices of the Associate Vice Provost in February 2014. In this capacity, Monsignor McCarren is responsible for depositing all membership dues, conference registrations and donations that come to the office. o Served as spiritual director for 13 seminarians participating in the 10-week Summer Program for Spiritual Formation for Diocesan Seminarians, at the Institute for Priestly Formation, Creighton University, Omaha, NE, from June 10-July 30, 2014. In this role, Monsignor McCarren had eight weekly meetings with each seminarian. o Presented the following: " Retreat for Permanent Deacons of the Archdiocese of Newark, held at San Alfonso Retreat House, Long Branch, NJ, from October 4-6, 2013. 7

" Two sessions of the workshop Sacramental Theology, for lay leaders, at the Trenton Diocesan Pastoral Center, Lawrenceville, NJ: November 6, 2013. May 3, 2014. " Reflection on Priestly Vocation, for the Delbarton School Senior Class Day of Recollection, held at Mallinckrodt Convent, Mendham, NJ, on February 24, 2014. " In-service session (two separate times to enable more of Immaculate Conception Seminary s spiritual directors to attend) for Immaculate Conception Seminary s spiritual directors, on the following dates: February 26, 2014. February 27, 2014. " Afternoon of Recollection, at St. Mary Parish, Bayonne, NJ, on March 29, 2014.! Dianne M. Traflet, J.D. 88, S.T.D., Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Administration; Assistant Professor of Pastoral Theology; and Founder and Co-Director, Institute for Christian Spirituality: o With Reverend Monsignor Joseph R. Chapel, S.T.D., Associate Spiritual Director; Associate Professor of Moral Theology; Co-Director, Institute for Christian Spirituality; and Director, Center for Diaconal Formation, created ICSST s new Catholic Evangelization Certificate Program in collaboration with St. Paul Inside the Walls: The Catholic Center for Evangelization at Bayley-Ellard, Madison, NJ. This certificate program launched in August 2014. 8

o Presented the following: " Edith Stein s Spiritual Life. Lecture, at the Carmelite Novitiate, Middletown, NY, from July 22-23, 2013. " Men s retreat on Spiritual Fatherhood, at The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, Newark, NJ, on December 28, 2013. " Mary, Cana and Women in the Church. Talk, to seminarians at Blessed John Paul II Seminary, Washington, DC, on February 19, 2014. " Talk on the topic of Dorothy Day, to eighth graders at Corpus Christi School, Manhattan, NY, on March 5, 2014. " Lord, help me! Praying with Dorothy Day this Lent. Lecture, at College of Mount St. Vincent s, NY, on March 5, 2014. " The Spirituality of St. Edith Stein. 3-day conference, for Lay Carmelites in Massachusetts. Dr. Traflet presented five conferences and offered spiritual counseling, from April 4-6, 2014. " Edith Stein and the Cross. Talk, for the Missionaries of Charity, Plainfield, NJ, on April 8, 2014. " Nourishing a Life of Prayer in Ministry. Workshop, for the Diocese of Trenton, on April 24, 2014. " Nourishing a Life of Prayer. Lecture, for 4 th Theologians, at ICSST, on April 24, 2014. " The Gift of Peace and Priestly Ministry. Lecture, for Transitional Deacons, as part of their priestly retreat, at St. Mary s Abbey Retreat Center, Morristown, NJ, on May 20, 2014. 9

o Appeared on Sunday Night Prime Time, EWTN, to discuss the life and spirituality of St. Edith Stein, in May 2014.! Joseph P. Rice, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Philosophical Theology: o Completed a second year (2013-2014 school year) as an elected, non-compensated member of the Ambassador Christian Academy School Board, in Toms River, NJ. Ambassador Christian Academy is one of only three Christian schools in the state of New Jersey with a classical curriculum. This very active board supervises aspects of the budget, faculty, staff, curriculum and policies. During the 2013-2014 school year, the board successfully completed an accreditation cycle. Dr. Rice has been asked to return for a third year, but has chosen to resign in July 2014, so as to have more time to devote to research. o Presented Man and Woman He Created Them. Five-part lecture series (continuing education workshops) on St. John Paul II s Theology of the Body, for permanent deacons of the Diocese of Paterson and their wives, at St. Paul Inside the Walls: The Catholic Center for Evangelization at Bayley-Ellard, Madison, NJ. Presentations in this series included the following: " In the Beginning. October 5, 2013. " The Gospel of Divine Human Love. November 2, 2013. " The Gospel of the Kingdom. January 4, 2014. " The Gospel of Divine Intimacy. February 1, 2014. " The Gospel of Life. March 1, 2014. 10

Two-part series, to staff and patients at Bergen Regional Medical Center, Paramus, NJ, on March 28, 2014 and April 4, 2014.! Reverend Hong-Ray Cho, S.T.L., Ph.D., Formation Faculty Member and Adjunct Professor of Systematic Theology: o Presided at the Mass of the Holy Spirit, at Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ, on September 11, 2013. o Presented the following lectures at retreats: " What is the Eucharist? At St. Joseph Parish, Demarest, NJ, on March 21, 2014. " Christ in the Family. For the Young Couple s Retreat, at the Korean Catholic Center, Palisades Park, NJ, on April 5, 2014. 11

o Offered invocation at Charter Day, at Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ, on April 25, 2014.! Six faculty members of Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology served as assessors and examiners for two candidates in the Pastoral Provision. These candidates are married former Anglican priests who have converted to Roman Catholicism and seek ordination as Catholic priests. This service was rendered at Immaculate Conception Seminary, South Orange, NJ, on September 19, 2013, by the following ICSST faculty members: o Reverend Monsignor Joseph R. Chapel, S.T.D., Associate Spiritual Director; Associate Professor of Moral Theology; Co-Director, Institute for Christian Spirituality; and Director, Center for Diaconal Formation. o Reverend Monsignor Gerard H. ! Zeni V. Fox, Ph.D., Professor of Pastoral Theology: o Has continued service on the Advisory Board of the Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education, Fordham University, Bronx, NY. As part of this service, Dr. Fox participated in a meeting in the Bronx in October 2013. o Presented the following lectures, at Villanova Conference Center, Radnor, PA, for The Academy, a ministry leadership program, planned and presented by Catholic Health East and Seton Hall University Catholic Studies, for chief executives of the healthcare system. Dr. Fox delivered these lectures at the following two of six sessions for this cohort: " The Examen of St. Ignatius Loyola. February 18-19, 2014. " The Parable of the Good Samaritan. June 10-11, 2014. As part of this service, Dr. Fox also attended several meetings, held in Trenton, NJ, to plan the program. o Presented the following lectures for the Voluntas Dei Secular Institute, Annual Convocation of Clergy and Laity, held in Elizabeth, NJ, on March 7, 2014: " Seeds of Change from Vatican II: Some Flowers, Some Weeds.
