H O L Y R E D E E M E R P A R I S H N E W S The Word This Week No man is an island... How true this is for those who follow Christ: each of us has responsibilities towards each other, based on our debt of mutual love. When we see wickedness and wrongdoing, then because of our privileged position of following the Lord Jesus, we have a duty to speak out. This will not always be easy - remember the prophet Jeremiah last week - but this was the mission of the Lord Jesus himself, and as his followers, it is our mission too. As with everything, love is the answer to every one of the commandments. Text taken from 2016 Diocese of Salford Office for Liturgy Holy Redeemer Sacramental Preparation Classes will begin in October. If you have a child in Grade 3 or older looking to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion please call or email the parish office as soon as possible to register 705-566-8330. As we go out to take God to others, know that we will meet Him through them. PRAY: Lord Jesus, by my guide. May I be a loving and welcoming member of my church community through my thoughts, words and actions. LIVE THE GOSPEL: This week, identify some ways you can be a positive influence in your community. Can you: Act in a way that sets a good example Speak in a way that builds someone up instead of tearing them down? Think in a loving an inclusive way about people that may seem to be on the fringes of your community. After a pause from the summer months, Liturgy of the Word with Children (LOWC) has once again returned to the 11 AM Mass. This is an opportunity for children between the ages of 4-10 yrs to experience liturgy at an age appropriate to their understanding. Children are dismissed at the beginning of Mass and are divided into age categories with a trained leader who will help break open the word at their level. Parents with children under 4 yrs are asked to please be in attendance with their child. Give your child the gift of a relationship with God! A Leader s Meeting will be held this Sunday September 10th following the 11 AM Mass! Any new people wishing to assist are welcome! Thank you AGAIN to our Tuesday afternoon Bridge Players for your generous donation of $350! Every Tuesday afternoon an earnest group of adults come together to play bridge. Thanks to token donations each week, Holy Redeemer Parish has the good fortune of reaping the benefits. We graciously thank you for your ongoing parish support! 2 Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church BUDGETED WEEKLY EXPENSES 2017 $6,450.00 Average Weekly Pre-Authorized Donation $1,600.00 Budgeted Weekly Income - Other Sources $370.00 Sunday Collection - Sept. 3, 2017 $3,423.00 TOTAL WEEKLY INCOME $5,393.00 Building Fund Raise the Roof $296.00 Food Bank $20.00 Thank you for your generosity!

A Memorial Donation is a wonderful way to honour a family member or friend. Many charities in our community are recipients of bequests and donations at the time of death. When a loved one dies it is customary to request donations as a way of honouring their lives. When choosing a charity of choice, perhaps a donation to the needs of your church might be a consideration? Like all churches, Holy Redeemer needs the assistance of parishioners to maintain its physical upkeep and day to day operations. Your choice to support in this way becomes a viable contribution to parish life. Such donations would support pastoral initiatives, like retreats; workshops; programs; sacramental preparation; as well maintenance and building improvements. Bequests and Memoriam donations generously support the ongoing needs of the church. (Income Tax Receipts are issued for all church donations.) All are welcome to gather at St. Patrick s Church on Walford Road, 7:00-9:00 pm, on Thursday, Sept. 21 st. A Freewill Offering will be taken to provide a scholarship for an Indigenous student. There will also be a Reception following the Service. It's an amazing moment for the North that kids and adults will see each other working on reconciliation. We are hoping the future can be much more kind than the past. This Commemoration will include aspects of respect and acknowledgement of the Indigenous peoples of Canada. 9 denominations will take part,( Catholic, Lutheran, Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, Mennonite, Pentecostal and United Church of Canada); as well, 3 Bishop leaders of Catholic, Lutheran and Anglican churches will be present to help lead the service. Although Sudbury has had other types of ecumenical prayer time over the last few years this particular one is "EXTRA" special. Its format is based upon the Oct. 31, 2016 service in Sweden led by Pope Francis and the Lutheran Bishop head of the Lutheran World Federation to open a year of COMMEMORATION of the 1517 start of the "Protestant" Reformation. It commemorates the wonderful progress made in the last 50 years of breaking down barriers and walls of division among many Christians. around the world.
