The Presbyterian Churches Millersburg First and Clark Community Presbyterian November 2017 Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart: Pastor B s Corner In the commercial excitement around Halloween and Christmas, it is easy to forget that this month we will celebrate Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving is that glorious day when we eat too much turkey, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie; take a nap in our recliners; and wake to watch football until we fall asleep again with visions of Black Friday sales dancing through our minds. Thanksgiving is that day when we travel near and far to be with family and friends. Thanksgiving is that day we dedicate to remembering our blessings and naming them. Since 1941, Thanksgiving Day has been celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Yet, for us, Christians, Thanksgiving Day should be every day. We don t need a special day to remember what God has done for us. Each day we are alive is day to be thankful for all the blessings showered upon us. Each day of living is thanksgiving day. In October, we began a short sermon series entitled, Enemies of Gratitude, which we will continue into November. In October, we discussed the ways that nostalgia, worry, and greed get in the way of our ability to give thanks with a grateful heart. This month we ll look at the ways that entitlement and fear keep us from gratitude. This month as we celebrate our national day of Thanksgiving, I challenge us to find one thing that we are thankful for each day of this month to let each day be a thanksgiving day. I challenge us to defeat the enemies of gratitude by a spirit of thankfulness.
