Guidelines 1 You have freedom in this Daniel Fast to modify it according to your personal, physical and spiritual needs. You can modify these instructions as you feel led by the Lord. If you feel that it would be more productive for you spiritually or physically to avoid certain foods or spices, then modify your fast as the Lord leads you. If you feel led by the Lord to eat only vegetables and drink only water, then do so! 2 The main thing is to decide ahead of time how you are going to apply the Daniel Fast, then stick to your commitment for the length of time you have decided to fast. 3 Some people feel that it is good to make a permanent lifestyle change to the Daniel Fast. Daniel didn t do his fast for a limited amount of time, it was his lifestyle. Daniel asked for permission to avoid the king s delicacies over a ten day period. Then, if he was still healthy looking, he could continue his diet. Daniel s reason for his diet is given in Daniel 1:8 The Message Bible: But Daniel determined that he would not defile himself by eating the king s food or drinking his wine, so he asked the head of the palace staff to exempt him from the royal diet.

Day 1 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Ephesians 3:20 (NKJV) Think BIG Today is the 1st day of this year s Daniel Fast. God is willing and able to do exceedingly, abundantly and above all you can ask or think. If 2017 seemed like a year of small steps, small faith, small provision, don t worry. God wants you to Think BIG in 2018! Be open to BIG ideas, BIG dreams and BIG leaps of faith. Nothing is impossible for our God and He wants you to accomplish and achieve every BIG plan and purpose that He s placed inside of you. No more small mentality. No more small faith. It s time to Think BIG!

Prayer: Lord, I know that You can do the impossible. I am open to the BIG dreams and possibilities that You want to accomplish through me this year. I will exercise my faith to think BIG in 2018! In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Day 2 But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33 (KJV) Seeking A BIG Kingdom Do you put God s Kingdom agenda FIRST in your daily, monthly and yearly plans? Are you working and slaving tirelessly to achieve stuff, for the sake of man s approval and validation? The Scriptures command us to seek God s Kingdom FIRST and everything else we need will be granted to us. Stop seeking things and start seeking the God who can supply all your needs according to His riches in glory. When you show appreciation, simply for who He is, He ll gladly release all He has to bless you and equip you for the Kingdom role that you were created for.

Romans 14:17 Confession: I submit to the rule of the Kingdom which is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Prayer: Lord, I invite Your Kingdom and its principles, standards and guidelines to affect my daily decisions. Thank You for supplying all of my needs as I prioritize Your will over my own. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Day 3 But a time is coming and is already here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit (from the heart, the inner self) and in truth; for the Father seeks such people to be His worshipers. John 4:23 (AMP) BIG Worship Whatever you worship becomes magnified in your life. When you worship, you are giving honor and devoting your time to someone or something. If you worship another person, they become magnified. If you worship drama and controversy, that becomes magnified. Jesus came not only to allow us salvation, but to give us the freedom to worship our Heavenly Father once again. When we worship Him with our spirit and in truth (honesty, transparency, openness), He becomes BIG in our lives.

Day 4 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 (NRSV) BIG Mercy Every Morning The darkest hour is said to be midnight. The stillness of the late night hours can often have you reluctantly awake, thinking and rehearsing in your mind every mistake, low point and failure from the day. Guilt can haunt you, leaving you captive to your thoughts and imaginations. However, we serve a loving God whose mercies are new every morning. So tonight, close your eyes, rest your mind and let go of shame and regret, knowing that a new dawn is on the horizon. Every morning is a good morning because we serve a relentlessly merciful God!

In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Day 5 Most importantly, love each other deeply, because love will cause people to forgive each other for many sins. 1 Peter 4:8 (NCV) BIG Love = BIG Forgiveness Have you ever stained a carpet or garment? You might have tried to dab out the stain or quickly rinse it with water, while hopelessly spreading it and making it worse. In the same manner, we try to forgive or receive forgiveness only to realize that possibly through a heated confrontation or argument, the matter wasn t fully resolved. Perhaps, there was one factor that might have been missing? The love factor. Deep hurt requires deep forgiveness, and deep forgiveness is bathed in authentic love and concern. An apology can be heard, but true love is felt. Before flippantly saying sorry, try expressing to the offended person the genuine love you have for them. An open heart is much more receptive to the seeds of forgiveness when they re deposited.

Worship Song On And On by Housefires Reading & Confessions Ephesians 4:32 Confession: I forgive those who have hurt me just as Christ has forgiven me. Luke 6:37 Confession: I won t intentionally judge nor condemn others. 1 Peter 4:8 Confession: The fervent love that I cultivate in my heart covers a multitude of sins. Prayer: Lord, help me to love like You. I open up my heart so that I can offer and receive forgiveness from a state of authenticity and sincerity. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Journal Today, I need to pray for: What is God telling me today?

Day 6 To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NKJV) Processing BIG Changes God created everything in the universe to function within the framework of cycles and seasons. A tangible and consistent reminder of that fact are the four seasons of weather patterns we experience. There s the scorching and humid temperatures of summer, which lends itself to many BBQ s and picnics at the park or lake. Then there s the shift into autumn, when the leaves are changing from shades of green to many beautiful hues of orange and yellow that are reminiscent of an Impressionist era masterpiece. The brisk and chilly air of winter is laced with the husky scent of balsam and smoky fireplaces. Spring sweeps in with its bright palettes of flora and fauna that start to bud after a refreshing rain shower. Our lives operate in a similar manner; transitioning from season to season. Some are hot and exciting, others can be trivial and sometimes menial, while others leave us feeling cold and occasionally lonely. One thing is for certain, seasons will change and there is a significance for each one you experience. Our lives will never stop shifting, but God s love and thoughts toward us will forever remain the same!

Worship Song Seasons Change by United Pursuit Reading & Confessions Psalms 1:3 Confession: I will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, bringing forth fruit in my season. My leaves will not wither and whatever I do shall prosper. Hebrews 13:8 Confession: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Ecclesiastes 3:11 Confession: Lord, You have made everything beautiful in its time and have set eternity in our hearts. Prayer: Lord, I embrace every season that You ve blessed me to walk through. I will trust Your timing, realizing that though seasons change, Your love for me will never change. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Day 7 The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth. Psalm 145:18 (NIV) Drawing Close to a BIG God The closer you are to any object, the bigger it appears. Also, the closer in relationship you are to a person, the more you get to see every facet of their life and who they truly are. Does God seem small or distant from you and your current situation? God is omnipresent, meaning that He is literally everywhere. God is not distancing Himself from us. Could it be that we distance ourselves from Him through our choices and lifestyle and then wonder why He doesn t feel close? Hebrews 13:5 states that, He will never leave you nor forsake you. He will never abandon us (relationally) and He will never neglect us (emotionally). God will never give up on your relationship with Him, but maybe you have. If so, confess, repent and return to Him. His presence is always close and it s just a prayer away.

John 10:27 Confession: Father, when I hear Your voice I will follow You. John 14:18 Confession: Lord, You said You wouldn t leave me as an orphan and You would come to me. Prayer: Lord, I strive for a deeper relationship with You. I repent for running from You when I should have been running to You. Thank You for never leaving or forsaking me when I needed You the most. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Day 8 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10 (NKJV) From BIG Valleys to BIG Mountaintops One of the most difficult challenges you ll face is the loss of someone or something you hold dear. Perhaps it s the death of a spouse or loved one, the death of a relationship or even the death of an opportunity. When it feels like your situation has burned down to smoldering embers of what could ve or should ve been, realize that you can rise from the ashes and live again. Jesus came to allow you access to the abundant life. However, abundant joy is frequently birthed in the midst of abundant pain. For Jesus, there was no crown without the obedience of the cross first. In 2 Timothy 2:12, Christ says if we suffer with Him, we ll also reign with Him. You may be walking or even crawling through the valley of the shadow of death, but know that God is with you every step of the way. He ll guide you and comfort you in your low places and celebrate with you when you reach the mountaintop.

Worship Song Hills and Valleys by Tauren Wells Reading & Confessions John 16:33 Confession: I can have consistent peace because You oh Lord have overcome the world. Psalms 23:4 Confession: Even when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I won t fear because You are with me. Isaiah 41:13 Confession: Father, my fears quickly fade away when You hold my hand and help me. Prayer: Lord, thank You for walking with me through the valleys of trials and hardships. When facing dead situations, help me to remember that there is life on the other side. I ll be steadfast and courageous because Your presence is always near. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Day 9 Then He brought him (Abram) outside and said, Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them. And He said to him, So shall your descendants be. Genesis 15:5 (NKJV) Seeing BIG Visions Recorded in the Book of Genesis is a moment where God calls Abraham out from under his tent and commands him to gaze at the never-ending celestial tapestry of stars that blanket the indigo sky. He told Abraham that the number of his descendants would be like the stars, limitless and beyond human calculation. God also wants to call us out from under our tents; our places of comfort and familiarity. Sometimes, our vision is too small for what God has in store. He wants to give us a bigger perspective, a bigger goal, a bigger vision. Be open to God increasing your capacity to see beyond what s right in front of you. Gaze into the endless possibilities of what He wants to do through you!

Worship Song Be My Vision by Planetshakers Reading & Confessions Habbakuk 2:2 Confession: I will write down my vision and make it plain, so that I may run with it to completion. Joel 2:28 Confession: Lord, because Your Spirit has been poured out, I ll dream big dreams and see big visions. Proverbs 19:21 Confession: Lord, I will let Your plans take precedence over mine. Prayer: Lord, I know You have a BIG vision in mind for me this year. I ll step out of my comfort zone and envision what You have planned for me. I ll strive to accomplish the Kingdom assignment that You ve shown me. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Journal Today, I need to pray for: What is God telling me today?

Day 10 Don t be weary in prayer; keep at it; watch for God s answers, and remember to be thankful when they come. Colossians 4:2 (TLB) BIG Prayers Unanswered prayers can definitely put a damper on your faith and cause you to question the validity of the promises in God s Word. Here s a simple acronym that will help reignite your faith, P.U.S.H.; meaning Pray Until Something Happens. Google has afforded us the ability to get answers almost instantly at the press of a button or swipe of a finger. On the contrary, God refuses to be treated as a proverbial genie in a bottle who fulfills our every wish and desire on command. Prayer invites God into our lives and He then answers in His timing and not ours. So, if you ve already prayed, then you may need to Praise Until Something Happens or Persevere Until Something Happens. God is watching your attitude throughout the whole process and your disposition might be the determining factor that dictates when and how God decides to respond to your prayers.

Day 11 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NLT) BIG Grace For Leadership Pastors and leaders in the church have the tremendous responsibility of caring for the flock, while simultaneously tending to their own family s needs. Often, they are counseling you through the perils of your marriage, while their marriage is suffering as well. They are in agreement with you concerning your healing while believing God for health in their own bodies. A leader is positioned in front of the group, plowing and paving the way for everyone who follows. They also take on and absorb the most blows from the enemy. Spend a few moments today praying for your pastor and ministry leaders in your church. They frequently suffer in silence. They need to know that you re aware of the fact that they bleed too and need the same prayer and support that they sacrificially give to us on a weekly basis.

Worship Song God Is Always Good by Covenant Worship Reading & Confessions 2 Corinthians 12:10 Confession: I take pleasure in infirmities, reproaches, needs, persecutions and distresses for Christ s sake. Mark 10:45 Confession: Jesus, You came not to be served but to serve, and present Your life as a ransom for us all. Prayer: Lord, I lift up the pastors and leaders who serve at Grace Christian Center. Keep a hedge of protection around the hearts and minds of them and their families. Give them times of rest and recreation so that their souls can be restored and their joy would be rejuvenated. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Journal Today, I need to pray for: What is God telling me today?

Day 12 But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the part with less honor so that there won t be division in the body and so the parts might have mutual concern for each other. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part gets the glory, all the parts celebrate with it. 1 Corinthians 12:24-26 (CEB) Serving Within One BIG Body As believers, we collectively make up the Body of Christ in the earth. All of us are needed and we each have a unique and significant role to play in God s divine design for humanity. We re in this together! When one of us is hurting, we re to comfort and console them. When one of us has fallen, we re to restore them. When one of us experiences a victory, we re to be joyous and celebrate with them. We need to adopt the T.E.A.M. mantra; Together Everyone Accomplishes Ministry. We weren t meant to struggle in isolation. We re better together!

Worship Song Holy Holy Holy (Jesus Reigns) by Highlands Worship Reading & Confessions Ephesians 4:15-16 Confession: I will speak the truth in love and do my share as a productive part of the Body of Christ. Colossians 3:15 Confession: I will let the peace of God rule and reign in my heart. Prayer: Lord, thank You for allowing me the honor and privilege of serving within the Body of Christ. I ll commit to being a team player and submitting to the vision of the church that I m partnered with. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Day 13 By the blessing (of the influence) of the upright the city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down. Proverbs 11:11 (AMP) Speaking BIG Blessings Over The City The power of words is extraordinary. God used words to create the cosmos. Words influence the minds of the masses in a positive or negative way. Not only do other people hear what you say, so does the Kingdom of Heaven and the Kingdom of Darkness. Your speech can empower light or darkness to infiltrate your city. Are you speaking positivity and optimistic outcomes or are you complaining and insulting the leadership of the city in which you reside? Instead of verbally rehearsing the obvious problems, why not offer possible solutions? Pray for your city and for the public servants who make decisions. Choose to be the light and illuminate your neighborhood and community with the love of Jesus.

I ll exalt my city by declaring blessings instead of complaints. In Jesus name I pray, amen!

Day 14 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance. Psalms 33:12 (NKJV) BIG Unity In Our Nation The current political climate in this country has us more divided than ever. It feels more like the Divided States of America and less like the United States. Both foreign allies and enemies are taking notice. We as the church, need to shoulder the responsibility for the spiritual state of this nation. Too many times we ve been contentious instead of Christ-like, apathetic instead of empathetic, and exclusive rather than inclusive. God has commanded us to be Ministers of Reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-21). We re to restore the lost back to the Father through Jesus, but we re also supposed to restore relationships between people of every color, creed and cultural background. America needs to see the unbiased and unconditional love of Jesus Christ. Let s showcase that selfless love across this nation!

Worship Song My World Needs You by Kirk Franklin Reading & Confessions 2 Chronicles 7:14 Confession: Father, if we who are called by Your name, will humble ourselves and pray, and seek Your face, and turn from our wicked ways, then You will hear from heaven, forgive our sins and heal our land. Proverbs 14:34 Confession: Righteousness exalts America, but sin is a disgrace to all who dwell within its borders. Release the spirit of unity throughout the churches in America, so that the nation will take notice and follow our lead. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Day 15 What a huge harvest! He said to His disciples. How few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands! Matthew 9:38-39 (MSG) Reaping A BIG Harvest In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus states that the gateway towards destruction is broad and wide and many are headed towards it. While the gateway towards life is narrow and few are on that pathway. Currently, 20% of the world s population are professing Christians while the other 80% are not. This current statistic confirms what Jesus revealed in His Word. Our job is to intercept those walking down the path towards hell and reroute them to the narrow gate that grants access to life in Christ. You may be called to pray, fund or even go on a missions trip. Today, designate some time to seek God about how you can assist in the worldwide harvest of souls.

He asked God for four things: His blessing, His presence, His protection and His increase. Jabez made an appeal to God to enlarge his territory. Territory speaks of dominion, possession and influence. What areas do you need the Heavenly Father to enlarge and expand in your life? Are you willing to ask God for BIG things? Jabez had the courage to simply ask. We can do the same and witness God exceed our expectations!

Day 17 Then Elijah said to Ahab, Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of an abundance of rain. 1 Kings 18:41 (NKJV) The Sound Of BIG Rain In the middle of a regional drought, the prophet Elijah claimed to hear the sound of an abundance of rain, regardless of the fact that it hadn t rained in over 3 years. This particular day seemed like just another dry and dusty day. Elijah sent his servant out six times to check for rain and each time the servant came back with a negative report. On the seventh time, the servant returned and reported that he saw a small cloud forming about the size of a man s hand. There will be many instances that we sense by faith what hasn t manifested in the natural yet. In spite of what you see or don t see, never doubt what you heard in your spirit. The rain is coming and what God promised will come to pass.

Day 18 Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22 (NKJV) Carrying A BIG Burden What burdens are you carrying that are weighing you down? Maybe it s unforgiveness, guilt, rejection or offense. Your shoulders were never meant to carry all the baggage that we tend to collect over time. Our Father wants us to live in freedom, but He knows that pain and problems accompany us daily. That s why Psalms 55 admonishes us to cast our burdens on Him. There s no issue too big that He can t carry for us. When your knees are buckling under the girth of life s woes, be quick to hand them over to God who will gladly trade your sorrows for His joy, which will strengthen and sustain you.

Day 19 And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from (one degree of) glory to (even more) glory, which comes from the Lord, (who is) the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18 (AMP) BIG Levels Of Glory When the Bible talks about the glory of the Lord, it means His: presence, power and character. We are being transformed daily into the image of our Lord. As we pursue Him, He transitions us from glory to glory; from one level of His presence, power and character to a deeper level. Look back over the last few weeks and realize that you aren t the same person you were before you embarked on this spiritual journey. Your transformation doesn t have to stop once the fast is over. Allow the Holy Spirit to continually lead and guide you into all truth concerning the course of events that you will experience throughout 2018.

Day 20 But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, they run and don t get tired, they walk and don t lag behind. Isaiah 40:31 (MSG) BIG Strength For BIG Storms The storms of life can leave us feeling weary, distraught and ready to give up on life itself. The Bible instructs us to wait upon the Lord, and He will renew and strengthen us. Waiting doesn t mean a lack of movement or activity. It s more of a state of mind. Waiting is having an expectancy or awareness that God is near and when the winds of adversity pummel you, He ll grant you the courage to press on and rise above the storm. Wait on the Lord and you ll tap into a supernatural strength and tenacity. Spread your wings, catch the wind of the Spirit and soar where the eagles fly.

Day 21 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14 (NKJV) A BIG Year Ahead I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back. These were some of the last words uttered by a Christian martyr in the Assam province of India. He witnessed the deaths of his wife and children, then faced his own fatality, never renouncing his faith. His dying words were then developed into the classic hymn I Have Decided To Follow Jesus. We may never face the possibility of martyrdom because of our faith, but the enemy will present many reasons and excuses to go back to our old habits and lifestyle. As the Daniel Fast comes to a close, purpose in your heart that you won t turn back to your former ways of thinking, believing and living. God has set BIG plans and BIG goals before you this year. Decide to press forward and never retreat backwards!
