FOUNDATIONS OF EASTER THE POWER OF JESUS BLOOD LESSON #3 Intro. Tonight is the last of our series, The Power of Jesus Blood. 1. Last week we talked about the blood Jesus shed in the garden of Gethsemane a. He shed blood for our soul; our mind, will, and emotions Tonight we re going to look at the other places Jesus shed blood and how they free us Everything changed for the better when Jesus shed His blood! I. JESUS SHED BLOOD WHEN HE WAS Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV) But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. Matthew 26:67-68 (NKJV) 67 Then they spat in His face and beat Him; and others struck Him with the palms of their hands, 68 saying, "Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck You?" A. WHEN JESUS WAS BEATEN HIS BODY WAS A bruise is formed when blood vessels rupture beneath the skin 1. The Bible says Jesus was bruised for our a. When the word iniquity is used in the Bible it means more than just an act of sin Strong's Greek & Hebrew Dictionary: iniquity, do amiss, bow down, make crooked, commit iniquity, do perversely, do wickedly, do wrong. Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words: "to bend" or "to deviate from the way." Praise Chapel 419 Harrison St. Kingman, AZ 86401 (928) 753-1909 Alex Wilson, Pastor 1

b. From the definitions of iniquity it seems it is not as much an act of sin as it is the nature of sin c. Iniquity is that evil bend in human nature d. It s the reason people do the bad things they do, knowing they are destructive to themselves and others Jesus was bruised for our iniquities His blood was shed to free us from the nature of sin We can experience freedom from addictive and habitual destructive patterns in our lives through the blood Jesus shed 2. Jesus was bruised for those areas where we have been injured a. Again, that s what a bruise is, a wound beneath the surface b. Jesus suffered so we could receive inner healing from those areas of hurt that no one else may see or know about ex. Emotional scars from past abuses; from words, actions, and offenses others have afflicted us with. They are like wounds or bruises beneath the surface in our lives. Some of those scars are from our own actions. The sins we committed that affected us. Or other s actions can cause inner bruises in us that we find it hard to get free from. Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV) But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. We shouldn t carry the inner wounds from the words or actions of others against us or from the sins or wrongs we ve committed in our past that bruised us Jesus shed His blood to free us! Luke 4:18 (KJV) The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, PRAYER AND CONFESSION: Jesus, thank You for being bruised for my iniquities. I will not be controlled by destructive sins or habits any longer. Thank You for freeing me from the hurts and wounds of my past. You were bruised to heal my inner hurts. I plead Your blood over my mind and emotions. I am free from the pain of my past wrongs and the wrongs committed against me, in Jesus name, Amen. Praise Chapel 419 Harrison St. Kingman, AZ 86401 (928) 753-1909 Alex Wilson, Pastor 2

B. JESUS SHED BLOOD AT THE Mark 15:15 (KJV) And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified. Mark 15:15 (NLT) So Pilate, anxious to please the crowd, released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to crucify him. As Jesus was whipped, His blood was shed to fulfill the rest of Isaiah s prophecy in Isaiah 53:5 Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV) But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 1. Jesus purchased our by the stripes laid on Him at the whipping post 1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV) who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness--by whose stripes you were healed. 2. The blood Jesus shed through His stripes forever settled the question whether it is to heal again, Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV) But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. a. Jesus suffered so we could be healed b. It is God s will to heal Mark 1:40-42 (NIV) 40 A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, "If you are willing, you can make me clean." 41 Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured. Praise Chapel 419 Harrison St. Kingman, AZ 86401 (928) 753-1909 Alex Wilson, Pastor 3

Acts 10:38 (NKJV) how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. II. JESUS BLOOD WAS SHED THROUGH THE Matthew 27:29 (NKJV) When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" A. JESUS SUFFERED TO REDEEM OR RELEASE US FROM THE IN THE GARDEN 1. Before Adam and Eve sinned everything was a. They had no sickness or need b. Everything they needed for a perfect existence was provided 2. When sin entered the garden their perfect existence a. God explained to Adam the consequence of their disobedience Genesis 3:17-19 (NKJV) 17 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it': "Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. 18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return." B. SICKNESS AND DEATH WEREN T THE ONLY CONSEQUENCE OF SIN, THE This curse produced two negative results 1. Man would have to to earn a living Praise Chapel 419 Harrison St. Kingman, AZ 86401 (928) 753-1909 Alex Wilson, Pastor 4

Genesis 3:17 & 19 (NKJV) "Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground a. Some people believe that work is a part of the curse Genesis 2:15 (NKJV) Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. Work wasn t the curse b. This is written in chapter 2 before Adam and Eve s fall c. God gave them a job to do; tend and keep the garden d. The curse meant their work would be much harder and produce less The first consequence of the curse on the ground was sweaty work. (More labor, less results.) 2. The second negative consequence of the curse on the earth was a. The earth had lost much of its God given ability to flourish and thrive b. Now it started producing thorns and thistles Something miraculous happened when the crown of thorns was placed on Jesus head C. BY THE CURSE OF THE THORNS JESUS BLOOD WAS SHED AND BY HIS BLOOD THE CURSE WAS 1. God has made a way for us to 3 John 1:2 (NKJV) Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. a. Prosperity involves money, but it s more than just money Philippians 4:19 (NKJV) And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Praise Chapel 419 Harrison St. Kingman, AZ 86401 (928) 753-1909 Alex Wilson, Pastor 5

b. Prosperity is having our needs met, but it s also more c. We can have all our material needs met and not be prosperous Luke 12:15 (NKJV) And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses." 2. Prosperity is more than having our needs met; it s a a. The word prosper that s used in the New Testament is the Greek word, yoo-od-o -o, it means, to grant a prosperous journey; be successful b. Our life is a journey c. God has paved the way for our journey to be successful One definition of prosperity is, having all our needs met and the capacity to enjoy it. 3. We should practice pleading the blood over our a. The crown of thorns represented the curse on the earth b. When the thorns pierced the brow of Jesus, blood flowed and power was released c. We should plead Jesus blood over our finances, our jobs, and our attitudes ex. Over our attitudes because God really has blessed and prospered us and a lot of us have a hard time seeing it. We compare ourselves with others who have more. d. We need to put our trust in God for our provision daily Luke 11:2-3 (NKJV) 2 So He said to them, "When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. Jesus shed blood through the crown of thorns and the curse of poverty was broken from our lives We must trust and contend day by day for His blessing Praise Chapel 419 Harrison St. Kingman, AZ 86401 (928) 753-1909 Alex Wilson, Pastor 6

III. THE FINAL PLACE JESUS SHED BLOOD WAS Matthew 27:35 (NKJV) Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: "They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots." This brings us back to our opening lesson A. THE BLOOD OF JESUS IS AND 1. It is precious because it and us a. None of us should live with a sense of guilt and separation from God b. Jesus paid too great a price for us to live full of guilt and condemnation We do Him a disservice for the price He paid if we live that way 2. Jesus blood is powerful because it makes us Revelation 12:11 (NKJV) And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. a. Because of Jesus blood we have the ability to overcome Satan Jesus blood is powerful because it affects every area of our lives In whatever challenge we face in life, Jesus paid the ultimate price for our victory Prayer and confession: Jesus, I don t take for granted the shedding of Your blood. I plead Your blood, over my mind, my will, my emotions, my physical body, and my finances and provision. Most of all I thank You for dying on the cross for me. I am forgiven and close to God because of Your blood. I praise You for that, in Jesus name, Amen. Praise Chapel 419 Harrison St. Kingman, AZ 86401 (928) 753-1909 Alex Wilson, Pastor 7
