What is FIDES What is FIDES? FIDES is a new reliability methodology for electronic systems using COTS, The FIDES Guide 2004 issue A Reliability Methodology for Electronic Systems was published in 2004, and is now the standard UTE C-80811 since 2005 (in english & french), This Guide is an answer to two strong needs : To have realistic reliability prediction during the development of an electronic product To provide engineering process and tools to assess equipment system reliability 4

What is FIDES The FIDES methodology Include new technologies, Take into account all the influences on reliability like : Technologies, Application (naval, airborne, avionics, automotive, ), Life cycle (specification, design, manufacture, system integration, maintenance), Actual use conditions (thermal, mechanical, electrical, ), Overstresses. 7
What is FIDES The FIDES methodology predict failure rates and is based on four main factors. What is FIDES Π induced Is the contribution of overstresses not classified as such. Takes into account Π Process The influence of the item's position in the equipment or system, The influence of the application operating environment of the product containing the item, The influence of the overstress integration policy in the equipment, The overstress sensitivity coefficient inherent in the technology of the COTS. Is representative of the quality and technical control of the reliability in the product life cycle (from specification to maintenance), Can be assessed through an audit of the reliability process during the whole lifecycle of an equipment or system. 9

FIDES 2 Goal 3: Experiment the methodology, develop tools Experiment the methodology for its validation, Develop a free of charge tool that allow everybody to experiment the methodology, Promote the development of FIDES tools by editors specialized in RAMS or CAD, in order to have various commercial offers which allows every company to find the convenient tool. Positions of French contractors French MOD (DGA) The FIDES Guide was integrated in the RNPA (Programs of Armament Standard Referential). It is quoted as a reference method in multiple new projects of armament. French spatial Agency (CNES) This Agency realized a detailed evaluation of FIDES methodology. This evaluation concluded that FIDES can be used for space applications (see publications in " Actualités composants du CNES " n 17 in October, 2004 and n 18 in January, 2005). EDF group EDF R&D realized an evaluation of the method, and has regular contacts with FIDES Group. 18
Positions of French contractors AIRBUS AIRBUS asks for a predictive reliability evaluation without requiring a method. FIDES is referenced and can be recommended. Automotive FIDES group worked in partnership with the French Bureau of Automotive Standardization (BNA) during the elaboration of the FIDES Guide 2004. 19

International interest Indicator of spread : Today, the Israeli company ALD proposes a FIDES module in its RAM COMMANDER software, At the end of 2007, Norisko (DEKRA group) will propose also a FIDES module. 21
