HOLY NATIVITY NEWS AND VIEWS PAGE 3 A message from Caitlin Bilton Kia Ora, or Hello for those who don t speak Maori. I am Caitlin Bilton and I have been a part of Holy Nativity for 7 years. I have just started my second week of my YWAM DTS. For those of you who are not familiar with the YWAM organization, it stands for Youth with a Mission. It is a worldwide organization with the mission to know God and make him known. There are over a hundred bases around the world equipping young people for lives in missions. God called me to do my DTS (Discipleship Training School) in beautiful Tauranga, New Zealand to do a Medical Compassion DTS. In this DTS I am doing 3 months of training for missions in the medical field as well as having the opportunity to grow my relationship with God. We will then go off to another country in the Pacific of which the location is not yet finalized. We will be involved in outreach where a team of us students as well as some health care professionals will be able to bring healthcare and God to the nations. I have a huge amount of gratitude for the Holy Nativity community for making this trip possible, both with financial aid, prayer support and a community who nurtured my seeds of faith. As the days got closer to my departure, the question I got time and time again is are you nervous? My answer was always no but still I thought that nerves would have to set in eventually. They never did. How could I be nervous when I m fulfilling what God called me to do? In just a short time God has started to rock my world, so I cannot wait to see where God will take me on my faith journey here at YWAM.
PAGE 4 HOLY NATIVITY NEWS AND VIEWS Learning Event Creating a Culture of Respect for Gender and Sexual Diversity" offered by Calgary Sexual Health This is a learning event, and a time to ask questions and hear the latest in our understandings of human gender and sexuality from other disciplines. This event is offered by St. Martin s and hosted at Knox Presbyterian Church (3704 37 St SW, Calgary, AB T3E 3C3) on Saturday, Feb. 25th, from 9:30-11:00 am. Here is a synopsis of the event: Building on the anti-homophobia work that Calgary Sexual Health Centre has been doing since the 1990s, this workshop defines and examines the differences between sex, gender, and sexual orientation. We discuss the root causes of homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and heterosexism, while looking at both media messaging and culturally constructed views of gender and the impact this can have on clients and coworkers. Participants will leave with practical strategies for creating a safer, more inclusive and respectful work environment. They will also learn about additional comment resources and referrals. Women's Hands Building a Nation Our own Elaine Proulx is part of the Chinook Guild of Fibre Arts and they are putting in a show at Galleria in Inglewood until February 28th. Check it out to see how women have been an integral part of the formation of Canada. See the poster in the narthex for more information. We re making Muddle Muffs! Our Tuesday morning crafts and chats group is taking on a new ministry. A muddle muff or a busy blanket is for the use of people suffering from dementia. These items- with buttons, zippers, do-dads and the like, firmly sewn on- help keep some agitated people busy! So do you have a drawer filled with odds & ends from your sewing days? Anything that can be sewn on- anything that will encourage a repeated action- will be well used! For questions, please ask Bev Fritzler, Marylyn Bradshaw or Roxanne Weiss. Or email the office and we will forward on your queries. A couple of examples:

We will commit to reading the short reflections of author Scot McKnight each and every day and will gather once weekly to share our experiences, our queries and to delve deeper into the biblical and practical implications of our commitment to being a Christian. Please sign up on the sheet in the Narthex so that the books can be ordered. The cost will be $15.00 for the paperback version or you can download a Kindle copy on your own.
