06-25-2017 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Jeremiah 20:10-13 Romans 5:12-15 Matthew 10:26-33 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ: A Message from Father Don As Jesus prepares the apostles for their mission, he challenges them to face persecution with courage. They are to announce the reign of God by shouting it from the housetops. In New Testament times, the common people often gathered on the roofs of their small mud houses. It was a convenient outdoor patio. If someone shouted the good news up there, everyone in the neighborhood would hear it. So Jesus instructed them to go to their housetops and proclaim in public the truths he had revealed to them in private. Their enemies may harm the disciples bodies. But their souls are safe in God s hands. Jesus insists that God loves us so much that God has counted every hair on our heads! And God is stronger than all our enemies put together. Not many of us literally shout our faith from the housetops. However, I ask you to spend some time this week discerning how you speak about your faith with your family and friends. Have you shared your faith in any way with others? Together with you family determine ways you can spread the good news of the Gospel. Perhaps you can invite someone to come to church with you or gather a group to take turns sharing your favorite Christian music. Whatever you decide, proclaim the good news of Christ in what you do and say knowing that Jesus has said we will never be alone in our efforts to do what is right. Pero sus almas están seguras en las manos de Dios. Jesús insiste en que Dios nos ama tanto que Dios ha contado cada cabello sobre nuestras cabezas! Y Dios es más fuerte que todos nuestros enemigos juntos. No muchos de nosotros literalmente gritan nuestra fe desde las azoteas. Sin embargo, les pido a pasar un rato esta semana discerniendo cómo hablas sobre tu fe con tu familia y amigos. Han compartido su fe de alguna manera con los demás? Junto con sus familias determinen maneras que puedan propagar la buena noticia del Evangelio. Tal vez ustedes puedan invitar a alguien a venir a la iglesia con ustedes o reunir un grupo para compartir tu música cristiana favorita.
