To learn more, we invite you to the Hospitality Desk in the Atrium for materials describing activities and events, as well as to the St. Andrew s website (saintandrews.org). Please join us for fellowship after the service. Listening devices and LARGE PRINT bulletins are available at the door. Please ask an usher. Children of all ages are welcome in worship. Childcare is available in the Infant and Toddler Rooms. If you have children who become restless, you may view the service with televisions in the Atrium, Library and Infant Room. We invite you to fill out and put on a name tag which can be found in the pew rack in front of you. Jesus Calls, Heals and Exorcizes: Sept 18 Oct. 30 Readings from the gospel of Matthew will lead us to the end of May 2017. The Fall Sundays will identify Jesus of Nazareth who heals, calms an angry sea, exorcizes demonic spirits, eats with outcasts, and through all proclaims the scandalous presence of the inbreaking of God s kingdom. Today s gospel breaks into our lives as Jesus words exorcize two men controlled by demonic spirits, sending the spirits into a herd of swine, leaving the herdsmen aghast as he tells the towns people the demoniacs are healed. Prelude Pièce Héroïque César Franck Hymn Blessing and Honor american hymn Continued on next page 2

We gather in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Call to Worship Restoring God, we gather to worship you. Renew and restore us with your presence. Gracious God, you are our hope and our joy. We come to praise and thank you. Healing God, we come together in our brokenness. Hear our silent confession and make us whole again with your healing power. Time for silent confession Sisters and brothers, hear the Good News. You are forgiven and set free. Thanks be to God! 3

Hymn Jesus Loves Me jesus loves me The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Prayer of the Day Gracious God, we come before you from many broken and fragile places. May the power of your word speak grace, peace and healing into our weary souls. Gather us together, intercede in our sighs, and bring us into the light of your presence. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen Anthem 9:00 Soul On Fire arr. Marty Hamby Senior High Choir 10:30 You Are Lord To Me Tom Mclain King s Messengers 4

Lesson 1 Peter 2:24-25 He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For you were going astray like sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls. Lesson Isaiah 53:4-6 Surely he has borne our infirmities and carried our diseases; yet we accounted him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Anthem O Lord God Tschesnokoff St. Andrew s Choir O Lord God, hear Thou my prayer, help Thou me, and give ear to my prayer. Daily do I worship Thy great name and Thy power. Thou alone canst help me; O send me Thy peace and love, O protect me, my God. Let me never stray, O my Savior. Leave me not, O God of my salvation. I will sing to the Lord as long as I live and praise Thy great name while I have my being. O Lord God, hear Thou my prayer; help Thou me, and give ear to my prayer. Glory to God! Please refrain from applause following this anthem. 5

Holy Gospel Matthew 8:28-34 Glory to you, O Lord. When Jesus came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demoniacs coming out of the tombs met him. They were so fierce that no one could pass that way. Suddenly they shouted, What have you to do with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time? Now a large herd of swine was feeding at some distance from them. The demons begged him, If you cast us out, send us into the herd of swine. And he said to them, Go! So they came out and entered the swine; and suddenly, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and perished in the water. The swineherds ran off, and on going into the town, they told the whole story about what had happened to the demoniacs. Then the whole town came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their neighborhood. Praise to you, O Christ. Anthem 10:30 I Will Arise arr. Howard Helvey New Dimension Singers Please refrain from applause following this anthem. Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen 6
