JULY 2017 Oh how this year is passing quickly! The flowers are blooming and we re seeing the sun a bit more often. I m so thankful to be able to come to work every day and see all of you. I m truly blessed and privileged to work where you live. I want to remind you of my open door policy and what that means. Although I m pretty busy, I m never too busy for you. I try to only shut my door and lock it when I absolutely can t be disturbed. I m usually on a phone call or I have a visitor in my office. Feel free to leave a message with Mary Anne that you would like to speak to me and I ll come to you when I m free. All of you are important to me equally. We ve had some changes in our Community lately and our Cable provider is one of those changes. As with most change in our lives it s not always easy or fun. Thank you to those of you who have been absolute troopers and have taken this change and ran with it. On the flip side I m so sorry for any inconvenience anyone has experienced. I want you all to know that I hear and I take what you say very serious. You all have a voice with me. Much Love Stephanie In our last newsletter for the month of May (if you still have your copy), I asked you to guess the name of a flower, the flower s name is a PANSY. Independence Day (United States) Background During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain in 1776 actually occurred on July 2, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia declaring the United States independent from Great Britain rule. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it two days later on July 4th. James Whittaker 7/4 Jo Jo Ann Waitkus 7/13 Milly Nelson 7/17 A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail: The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more. Coincidentally, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration Of Independence later to serve as Presidents of the United States, died on the same day July 4th, 1826, Which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Although not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, James Monroe, another Founding Father who was elected as President, also died on July 4th, 1831. He was the third President in a row on the anniversary of Independence. Calvin Coolidge, the 3oth President, was born on July 4th, 1872; so far he is the only U.S. President to have been born on Independence Day.
