Welcome to Becks Lutheran Church where we worship God, and learn and grow in faith. Please take a moment during the announcements to sign our Fellowship Register. + + GATHERING + + WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE *CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS P In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit, P Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord, P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. But, if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Most merciful God, C we confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways to the glory of your holy name. Amen. P God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin and made us alive together with Christ. By grace you have been saved. In the name of + Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven. Almighty God strengthen you with the power of the Holy Spirit, that Christ may live in your hearts through faith. *PEACE P The peace of Christ be with you always. C And also with you. Page 2

*PRAYER OF THE DAY P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P Thanks be to you, Lord Jesus Christ, most merciful redeemer, for the countless blessings and benefits you give. May we know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day praising you, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. FIRST READING: 1 Samuel 3:1-10 + + WORD + + 1 Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord under Eli. The word of the Lord was rare in those days; visions were not widespread. 2 At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his room; 3 the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was. 4 Then the Lord called, Samuel! Samuel! and he said, Here I am! 5 and ran to Eli, and said, Here I am, for you called me. But he said, I did not call; lie down again. So he went and lay down. 6 The Lord called again, Samuel! Samuel got up and went to Eli, and said, Here I am, for you called me. But he said, I did not call, my son; lie down again. 7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. 8 The Lord called Samuel again, a third time. And he got up and went to Eli, and said, Here I am, for you called me. Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down; and if he calls you, you shall say, Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 Now the Lord came and stood there, calling as before, Samuel! Samuel! And Samuel said, Speak, for your servant is listening. L The word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Page 6

PSALM: 139:1-6, 13-18 (read responsively) 1 Lord, you have searched me out; O Lord, you have known me. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; you discern my thoughts from afar. 3 You trace my journeys and my resting-places and are acquainted with all my ways. 4 Indeed, there is not a word on my lips, but you, O Lord, know it altogether. 5 You encompass me, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain to it. 13 For you yourself created my inmost parts; you knit me together in my mother s womb. 14 I will thank you because I am marvelously made; your works are wonderful, and I know it well. 15 My body was not hidden from you, while I was being made in secret and woven in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes beheld my limbs, yet unfinished in the womb; all of them were written in your book; my days were fashioned before they came to be. 17 How deep I find your thoughts, O God! How great is the sum of them! 18 If I were to count them, they would be more in number than the sand; to count them all, my life span would need to be like yours. SECOND READING: 1 Corinthians 6:12-20 12 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are beneficial. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be dominated by anything. 13 Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is meant not for fornication but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 And God raised the Lord and will also raise us by his power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that whoever is united to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For it is said, The two shall be one flesh. 17 But anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18 Shun fornication! Every sin that a person commits is outside the body; but the fornicator sins against the body itself. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body. L The word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Page 7

*GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (sung by all, please stand as you are able) *GOSPEL: John 1:43-51 P The holy gospel according to St. John the first chapter. C Glory to you, O Lord. 43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, Follow me. 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, We have found him about whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth. 46 Nathanael said to him, Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come and see. 47 When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit! 48 Nathanael asked him, Where did you get to know me? Jesus answered, I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you. 49 Nathanael replied, Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel! 50 Jesus answered, Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these. 51 And he said to him, Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man. P The Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to you, O Christ! CHILDRENS SERMON If you haven t already done so, please pass the Fellowship Register along your pew and return it to the center aisle after everyone has signed. SERMON Vicar Rob Crawford Page 8

*CREED P God has made us his people through our baptism in Christ. Living together in trust and hope, let us profess our faith. C I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION (after each petition)... Let us pray, C Have mercy, O God. P Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. + + MEAL + + OFFERING Lead Me, Lord S. S. *PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS (sung by all) *OFFERTORY PRAYER P Let us pray. Merciful God, C receive the gifts we bring, our selves, our time, and our possessions. Through this meal unite us as your body, shining with the light of your justice and mercy; for the sake of him who gave himself for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. *GREAT THANKSGIVING P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. (Spoken) P Lift up your hearts. C We lift them to the Lord. P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C It is right to give our thanks and praise. P It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ. By the leading of a star he was shown forth to all nations; in the waters of the Jordan you proclaimed him your beloved Son; and in the miracle of water turned to wine he revealed your glory. And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: Page 11

*HOLY, HOLY, HOLY (sung by all) *THE WORDS OF INSTITUTION P Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory. In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the cross, opened his arms to all. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrection, and ascension, we await his coming in glory. Pour out your Holy Spirit, that by this Holy Communion we may know the unity we share with all your people in the body of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor are yours, almighty Father, now and forever. Page 12

P And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, let us pray, *THE LORD S PRAYER (Sung) *INVITATION TO COMMUNION P We who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. Come and be filled with light and life. C Thanks be to God. Christ welcomes you to this meal and all are welcome to come to the table. Those unable to partake of wheaten bread, wine or grape juice are assured that the Church affirms our Lord's whole and abiding presence in, with, and under each element alone. Those not receiving communion are invited to come forward to receive a blessing. Return to your pew for meditation and prayer. Please let an usher know if you need assistance. Please refrain from conversation during the distribution of Holy Communion out of respect for those who may be in prayer. Page 13

In your mercy, raise us up in justice, peace, and fervent love toward one another. Send us forth as the body of Christ for the world, to nourish and strengthen those to whom we bring this communion in His body and blood that all may feast upon your abundant love made known through Jesus Christ, our Lord. + + SENDING + + *BENEDICTION P May the Lord bless you and keep you.
