CIC TEAM MEMBER Tips and What to Bring/Philippines Tips Remember this trip is not about us and our agendas, it is all about Jesus! We are going out as servants, to be His hands and feet, and to show His love. Begin to fast and pray for the trip, all leaders and team members, and the people you are going to serve. Team members must go with a view to die to self for the duration of the trip. A mission trip is not to be viewed as one's personal vacation, nor a time to focus primarily on relating to another member or members of the mission team. Team members are expected to labor diligently in whatever task has been given them by their team leader or missionary. Remember we are the unknown Christians from another part of the world and will be watched very closely. Do not take the important responsibility of setting an example lightly, you are representing Jesus. Flexibility is a must! Plans can change quickly and often on mission trips remember, God always has a plan, and it might be different than ours! DO NOT wear any jewelry that has sentimental value, however you will want to wear something that signifies you are married, if that is the case. Refrain from giving personal gifts, such as money, clothes, jewelry, tape players, etc. to the locals, except as set up by the team leadership. Although the intent of the giver is good, the result after we leave could cause problems for our host, and jealously and bitterness among those locals who received no such gifts. *Exceptions would be considered, but must be approved by CIC leadership. Very important Do not give your personal contact information to any of the local people. This will avoid potential problems with direct appeals for money and prevent undermining the national leadership. Please check these websites for health and travel info on the Philippines (We will be on the island of Luzon): http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/philippines.aspx http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_999.html What to Bring We suggest packing your personal items in your carry-on, and brining one or two checked suitcases of gifts for those to whom we will minister. (Note: You will be responsible for airline checked-baggage fees.) Personal items: *Bible and notebook *Flashlight *Clothing for working in the tropics. Please no short shorts, low cut tops or tank tops. Comfortable, but modest is a must. *Personal hygiene products: soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine products, razor. *Bug spray (Cutter's or Deep Woods Off) *Personal medications with backup supply. *Spending money. *Baby wipes - This is quick and easy way to freshen up! *Anti-bacterial hand sanitizer. *Reading materials, games, etc. *Snack foods for personal use, dried fruits, nuts, crackers, etc. (candy will melt) *Church clothes: dresses, skirts, dress slacks for women; dress slacks & tie for men. *Sunscreen, sunglasses and hat. Please take this seriously! *Hand towel, dish towel, or handkerchief. Good to put under hats to protect the back of your neck. *Shoes - 2 pair, ones you can walk well in and won't mind getting dirty. *Color Copy of Passport to keep with you Gifts for ministry: Any extra gifts will be kept 3 or more backpacks (new or gently used) for Christmas for the kids! Beanie Baby-type stuffed toys Matchbox cars, balls, jump ropes, yo-yos, other small toys School supplies: pens, pencils, crayons, notebooks, dry erase boards, etc. Children s and Adult Vitamins Personal hygiene products (washcloth, soap, toothbrush, etc.) Warm-weather clothes, assorted sizes (new or gently used) for adults and/or children Shoes or flip flops, assorted sizes Reading glasses from Dollar Store Bibles, other ministry resources for pastors (English) **Please do not bring items needing batteries. **Friends, family, and church members generally are happy to help supply these needs. **Watch for end-of-season sales, and approach store managers for donations or discounted sale prices

CIC MISSION TRIP Fund Raising Tips Get excited about the trip. If you don't it is likely your donors won't. Make a list of all the people you know. i.e. friends, relatives, doctor, lawyer, dentist, teacher, neighbors, parents, co-workers etc. Write a fund raising letter no longer than one page. Send them out as quickly as possible. Follow-up call on your newsletters two weeks after they are sent out. Get a part time job. i.e. baby-sitting, restaurant etc. Put coin cans in public places. Wal-Mart for example is always willing to support mission work. Sell chocolate or other fund raising products. Organize a garage sale every other week. Collect all the junk from uncles, aunts and grandmas. Let your family and friends join you in Saturday morning car wash. Save! Save!! Save!!! You may have to give up the daily soda quarter and the Big Mac for a while. Put the money in the piggy bank. Set a monthly goal. i.e. if you have 4 months to raise $3,000 set a goal to raise $750 each month until you realize your goal. Some people find it much easier to raise funds this way than a lump sum which can be intimidating. Don't wait until the last minute to raise the funds. Start now. Write down all the pledges and never be afraid to remind them. Buy souvenirs and gifts for your donors while on the mission trip. Have a family/friends thank you barbecue. (They all bring dishes so it won't cost you a dime). Most importantly Pray! Pray!! Pray!!! How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. How do you raise support? One dollar at a time. Would God want something to happen, but then not provide for it? Fundraising has a rotten reputation of being a necessary evil when the truth is that it is a very vital part of a missions ministry. There are great multitudes of people that want to reach out to the lost but are not able to go so we must be their hands and feet; all part of the same body. When something is worthwhile, is it worth investing in? Is the Great Commission something that's worth investing in? Why not raise money for something like that?

We are giving people an opportunity to invest in something that God is doing and He has called us to involve others in a partnership. It is the greatest thing that a person could ever give to. God already knows who will provide the funds. He has called them to their place just as He has called us. When you ask for support and the answer is no, you are not being rejected. This is not about if you are worthy. God has not called everyone to provide support. And don't be fooled by the cover of the book! Everyone deserves the opportunity to be a part of God's awesome plan and be blessed as you will be blessed. Embrace fundraising for your mission trip with all the delight and vigor that a peewee team has when they raise money for their trip to the World Series. And be creative! God is, just look at the platypus! Refund POLICY: If you Cancel - no refund will be given and the money will become a donation and will be used in our ministry.

CIC MISSION TRIP Support Letter Dear I'd like to share with you a trip that I am going to take that will hopefully be a lifechanging experience for the people I come in contact with, as well as for me. I am happy to let you know that I will be going on a mission trip with CIC (Christians in Crisis) along with about others from my church. Our team will be traveling to the country of from (date) to (date). While we are there we will be ministering to many down-trodden, poor, and needy people. We will be helping the local church in any way that we are needed. Through this we hope to win many souls to the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, all I need is the money to get there. Our team will be involved in fundraisers; however, I will need sponsors. Right now I am looking for 40 people to sponsor me for $ toward this once in a lifetime experience. However, I realize that this amount may not be possible, so any amount that you might be able to give would be greatly appreciated. If you are sending a check, please make it out to CIC (Christians In Crisis). Please do not put my name on the memo line of the check, but be sure to include a note that is for me (please see below* for more info). I believe that with prayer and God's help my financial need will be met. Please pray for me and our team as we prepare for this mission trip and while we are there. Pray that people will see the love of Jesus through us and we will be used by the mighty Holy Spirit. My prayer is that this trip proves to be lifechanging for the people we will minister to, even more than for me. Thank you for letting me share with you what will be one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. Above all, I value and need your prayer support. If you are able to help financially, please send your contribution to me and I will forward it to CIC. In His service, Your name *All sponsor funds received by CIC are contributions and are not refundable. To receive a tax deduction, the IRS stipulates in Publication 526 on Charitable Contributions that the donor must release control of all funds donated to a non-profit organization. For this reason, contributions from sponsors cannot be refunded, nor can they be designated to any specific person. The individual will be a fundraiser and will receive credit for raising funds equal to the price of his/her trip.
