July 2016 THE FLAT ROCK PEBBLES Flat Rock United Methodist Church Every Morning An Excerpt Dietrich Bonhoeffer Each morning is a new beginning of our life. Each day is a finished whole. The present day marks the boundary of our cares and concerns. It is long enough to find God or loose Him, to keep faith or fall into disgrace. God created day and night for us so we need not wander without boundaries, but may be able to see in every morning the goal of the evening ahead. Just as the ancient sun rises anew everyday, so the eternal mercy of God is new every morning. Every morning God gives us the gift of comprehending anew His faithfulness of old; this in the midst of our life with God, we may daily begin a new life with Him. In the first moments of the new day are for God s liberating grace, God s sanctifying presence. Before the heart unlocks itself for the world, God wants to open it for Himself; before the ear takes in the countless voices of the day, it should hear in the early hours the voice of the Creator and Redeemer. God prepared the stillness of the first morning for Himself. It should remain His. As members of Flat Rock United Methodist Church we are proud to have Reverend Stephen Bazan as our Pastor. We welcome Pastor Stephen and his wife Amanda. They have joined our church family and its legacy of service and love to God, God s people and each other. As they start their new journey here at Flat Rock UMC may each of us show them the love we have for our Lord and for them.
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY INDEPENDENCE DAY JULY 4 In 1776 the original 13 states came together and separated from England with the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4. During this time, the brave Founding Fathers knew that the future ahead would be full of danger and risk to themselves and their families, but the importance of the country was greater than anyone person. As a celebration of the United States of America s Declaration of Independence in 1776, Independence Day is recognized as a large birthday celebration for one of the world s most influential countries. Overall this is a day of patriotism and pride for the United States. It is a large birthday celebration which all Americans can enjoy. Position conveniently in the middle of summer vacation, the Fourth of July is very fun because of the fact that almost everyone has time to take off from work and reflect on the United States and its birthday. For Americans, this vitally important day is truly a day of celebration. Independence Day is commonly associated with barbecues, picnics, concerts, carnivals, parades, fireworks, family reunions, political speeches, or ceremonies. As we celebrate this July 4th, let us not forget to thank God for our freedom.
