Flat Rock United Methodist Church THE FLAT ROCK PEBBLES June 2016 From the Pastor s Pen Ecclesiastes 3:1 say, For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven. I have enjoyed four years as being your pastor at Flat Rock UMC. It has been my privilege to love and serve you as I served in God s ministry. Now my season at Flat Rock UMC is coming to a close and it is time to say, Good-bye. It is a bitter-sweet time for me and for Dennis. Our time together has been wrought with laughter and at times, with tears. We have felt the warmth of God s love through the hugs and smiles that we have shared together. We have engaged in good and Godly conversation sometimes light hearted and sometimes deep, but never without the profound acknowledgement that God was in our presence. It is the God of Peace who sustains us. And so, I say, Good-bye, but not without the knowledge that it is God who is leading both Flat Rock UMC, and Dennis and I into the future. We both have a lot to look forward to. Flat Rock will continue to build on the foundation that has been established by all the pastors who have gone before. Rev. Stehpen Bazan will continue to nurture Flat Rock s spiritual growth while leading the church out into the community. I hope that you will join me as I pray daily for Stephen, his wife Amanda, and for the baby that they are expecting. (It will be thrilling for you to have a new baby growing up in the Parsonage!) I will be taking Family Leave, which I first requested when Dennis father was so ill. Now we will be settling his estate as we travel back and forth to Shelby, NC. This time apart from ministry will also afford us the time to visit Amelia as she works on her Ph.D. at the University of Georgia. I hope that you will continue to pray for us in the future as you have so faithfully done while I was here. If there is only one thing that I could say to you, it would be this: In Christ, I have loved you, I do love you, and I will continue to love you. May God continue to bless Flat Rock UMC. Pastor Cathy

AN UPDATE FROM THE TRUSTEES OF FRUMC: There are several updates from the Trustees this month: Michael Hobbs has been elected to serve as Trustee Treasurer. The HVAC leak has been repaired at no cost to the church. The planter boxes for the children s vegetable garden have been built. We are going to be adding rocks at the walkway to the garden due to how muddy it gets when it rains. The children will be hosting a Farmer s Market for their first big harvest. The children will also be donating vegetables to the ACTS House and to other needy families and neighbors in the community. We have been waiting now for several months for the contractor to begin the covered walkway project; weather and other uncontrollable circumstances have prevented this project from beginning. If the contractor doesn t begin by July 1 st other options will be explored. CAREGIVER S SUPPORT GROUP MEETING The Caregiver s Support Group meeting is held at Flat Rock UMC the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 am. This is a ministry of our church to support YOU! It is free and all are welcome.

June 19th is Fathers Day On Father s Day you have an opportunity to remember or honor Father s. The youth group is sponsoring a Father s Day Candle Burning. Forms are located in the two entryways to the Sanctuary. PASTOR CATHY S Sunday, June 26th, we will be having a farewell covered dish meal for Pastor Cathy and Dennis immediately following the worship service. Please bring your favorite dish as we thank Pastor Cathy for her service and dedication, and wish her and Dennis God s blessing as they move on in their lives.

Inside Story Headline This story can fit 150-200 words. One benefit of using your newsletter as a promotional tool is that you can reuse content from other marketing materials, such as press releases, market studies, and reports. While your main goal of distributing a newsletter might be to sell your product or service, the key to a successful newsletter is making it useful to your readers. A great way to add useful content to your newsletter is to develop and write your own articles, or include a calendar of upcoming events or a special offer that promotes a new product. You can also research articles or find filler articles by accessing the World Wide Web. You can write about a variety of topics but try to keep your articles short. Much of the content you put in your newsletter can also be used for your Web site. Microsoft Publisher offers a simple way to convert your newsletter to a Web publication. So, when you re finished writing your newsletter, convert it to a Web site and post it. Flat Rock Travelers The month of May some of the FRTs visited Anne Creech at Franklin Manor. Caption describing picture or graphic. She was overjoyed to see some of her luncheon buddies and we all had a great time. Her room is large, looks like home and is easy to find. Anne says she looks for the wreath with the big A on it to help her find the room. We also visited with Carolyn Creech again and found her reading the paper waiting for her friends. The living rooms there are so nice and seem they have activities planned most all times and they have gourmet meals prepared by a real Chef. You would not believe the menus! You know, whenever ladies get together there is usually shopping involved and this trip was no exception. We spent an hour at Hamricks, had lunch at the Steak and Shake, and got home a bit after 3:00. There will be no trips planned for the next couple of months because the van can get so hot during the summer months and Brenda will be having a knee replacement and will be unable to drive. Everyone enjoy your summer and get ready to hit the road again in September!

Schedule June 01 Skipper s June 08 Pino s Italian June 15 Restaurant 39 (Old Dabney) June 22 Taco Bell June 29 Bamboo Garden There is a group of women who meet every Wednesday to share lunch together and we call ourselves The Lunch Bunch. The Lunch Bunch invites anyone who would like to join us to please see the selected lunch location (it changes every week) which will be posted on the bulletin board...donna Johnson has a list of locations. See her if you need a hard copy so you can plan weeks in advance where you will be each Wednesday. Call Brenda Richardson if you have questions or suggestions on lunch locations. ACTS FOOD PANTRY ACTS is a local organization dedicated to helping those in need of food. As faithful members of the community of faith, we at Flat Rock UMC are committed to helping ACTS in their efforts. In June, Fruit is requested: so please consider sharing the love of Jesus Christ by bringing in items each Sunday this month. ACTS is need of toiletry items (toothpaste, soap, tissues, toilet paper, etc.) There is a basket in the front foyer and a box located under the mail boxes and directly across from the bulletin board behind the sanctuary to place your ACTS donations. There were 1 items collected for the month of May. Thanks to you all!
