OUR MISSION IS TO SHARE THE TIMELESS MESSAGE OF SALVATION IN LOVE AND TO SHOW OUR FAITH IN WORDS AND ACTIONS. Welcome We welcome you to this hour of worship and pray that this time together might be a blessing for all of us. Large print hymnals and hearing impaired receiver units are available in the Narthex by the bulletin board. Just ask an usher. We are also equipped with a Hearing Loop System that can be used with hearing aids featuring a t-coil. We ask that everyone in attendance please take the time to sign our Friendship Register. These red folders can be found in each pew. Thanks! If you are a resident of this area and have no church home, we invite you to give consideration to Immanuel. Please worship with us again! Service Theme: SERVANTS OF CHRIST: KEEP WATCH. As Christ s servants on earth, we look forward to the day our master will return to deliver us from this wicked world. Until that day comes, let us be busy doing the works he has given us to do keeping watch for his return. Lighting of the Advent Candles M: We light one Advent candle, remembering Jesus, who is coming again. He will come to gather his people from everywhere, both the living and the dead. C: We remember Jesus, who will come at the end of time. None of us know what day that will be. M: We hear his call to watch. C: We light one Advent candle as a sign of our watchfulness and waiting. M: Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest. C: Through your Word and Spirit may our souls be blessed. (One Advent candle is lit during the opening hymn) Opening Hymn: CW 22 O Savior, Rend The Heavens Wide Order of Service: Service of Word and Sacrament (p. 26)

Prayer of the Day Stir up your power, O Lord, and come. Protect us by your strength and save us from the threatening dangers of our sins; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. First Lesson: Isaiah 64:1-8 (NIV84) Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you! 2 As when fire sets twigs ablaze and causes water to boil, come down to make your name known to your enemies and cause the nations to quake before you! 3 For when you did awesome things that we did not expect, you came down, and the mountains trembled before you. 4 Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him. 5 You come to the help of those who gladly do right, who remember your ways. But when we continued to sin against them, you were angry. How then can we be saved? 6 All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away. 7 No one calls on your name or strives to lay hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us and made us waste away because of our sins. 8 Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. Verse of the Day Alleluia. He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Alleluia. (Revelation 22:20 NIV84) Gospel: Mark 13:32-37 (NIV84) 32 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. 34 It's like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. 35 "Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back-- whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: 'Watch!'" Sermon Hymn: CW 7 Rejoice, Rejoice, Believers Sermon: Mark 13:32-37 Theme: Servants of Christ: Keep Watch. Offering Prayer of the Church: Advent (p. 123) The Sacrament (pg. 33) A Special Note for our Visitors Concerning Communion For two very important reasons we ask that only those who are members of Immanuel Lutheran Church, or members of a Congregation affiliated with us, join us for the Lord s Supper. The first is love for our visitors.

1 Corinthians 11:27-29 tells us that those who partake of the Lord s Supper without proper instruction and preparation bring serious spiritual harm upon themselves. The second is love for our Lord s instruction concerning the fellowship that is expressed by those at the altar. 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 explains the intimate oneness of faith all who come to the Lord s Supper share. Those wanting to partake of the Lord s Supper with us for the first time are asked to speak with our pastor ahead of time. We thank you for your understanding. Communion Hymn CW 5 As Angels Joyed With One Accord Final Hymn: CW 15 Hark! A Thrilling Voice Is Sounding Children s Bulletins Available! Children s Worship Bulletins are available in the Narthex. Worship Service DVD s The A/V committee makes DVD copies of each service and they are available in the Narthex. Please take one and share it with a family member or friend. The 2005 synod convention authorized the development of these funds with a goal of gathering $300 million in endowment gifts by 2018. Our WELS Ministerial Education Endowment Fund with its sub-fund for each school Luther Preparatory School, Watertown, Wis.; Michigan Lutheran Seminary, Saginaw, Mich.; Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minn.; and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, Wis. began in 2006. The way an endowment fund works is a portion of the fund is distributed each year while the remainder continues to grow. The four ministerial education schools can use the distributions for student assistance and other programs.
