The Spokesman PROGRAM: Jim Armstrong TOPIC: Lost Colony Update Introduction: Herman Hunter Invocation: Joel Gentry Sergeant-At-Arms: Cobb Atkinson & Monica Peters Greeters: Brian Bunch & Karl Robinson Rotary Club of High Point Thursday 12:00 Noon 800 Country Club Drive Email: hprotary@northstate.net Rotary Zone 33 Rotary District 7690 Rotary Club # 6062 Web: www.highpointrotary.org (club) www.rotary7690.org (district) www.rotary.org (int l) This Week at Rotary.... Last Week at Rotary... Jim Armstrong is a native High Pointer who helped develop the High Point Mus e u m. H a v i n g served as President of the High Point Historical Society, Inc. when the Haley House was restored and the museum was constructed in 1969, he followed Mary Lib Joyce the first president of the Society. Jim has been researching the Lost Colony for a several years and has been surprised at the amount of new information that has been uncovered/revealed in the past couple of years. The old expression: what s new is old, what s old is new applies here. He ll attempt to tell us today what s been uncovered by the Lost Colony Foundation and the high hopes their archaeologists have for locating those elusive colonists. In 2015, Jim spoke to Rotary about the Lost Colony attempting to answer the question of whether they were really lost or were they hidden on purpose? This week at Rotary, the story continues as more has been uncovered about what may have happened to these first colonists along our coast. It was A Blast! All Day Long! Club Members rolled up their sleeves last Friday at First Presbyterian Church for the Annual Rotary Club of High Point BBQ. Rotarians were hustling around the kitchen and dining room in their Blue Rotary T-Shirts. Hungry ticket holders kept everyone busy. Lots of take outs were going out the door. And many diners took the time to sit, eat, and enjoy the entertainment. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make this signature fund raiser a fun and profitable event that benefits our great community! Besides all the Rotarians, we thank the many generous sponsors (Especially Presenting Sponsor Ralph Lauren) that supported our endeavor, the Salvation Army Women s Auxiliary, First Presbyterian Church, Big Brothers-Big Sisters volunteers, Interact Club Members, High Point University Ice Cream Truck volunteers, and The Wesley 100 of Wesley Memorial UMC. It was all a great day and great fun! Check out the day in pictures in this issue! The 50/50 Raffle Drawing Thursday at Rotary
