Fr. Larry s Corner of the Bulletin Today is traditionally known as Gaudete ( Rejoice ) Sunday - we rejoice because the Lord is near. Liturgically the Church begins to prepare more directly for the Lord s birth. It is the half-way point of Advent, symbolized by the rose (not pink!) vestments used at Mass (I don t want to hear any ping elephant cracks directed toward the Pastor!!). I would like to point out one of the special things going on in our parish as we approach Christmas. It is the Ceremony of Lessons and Carols that will be held once again in the church on Sunday, December 18th at 2:00pm. A few years ago we began this traditional service of meditative Scripture readings interspersed with Advent and Christmas carols done by candlelight. It s a great way to slow down for a while and prepare for Christmas. God bless! ₃ rd Sunday in Advent Prayer O Almighty God, gracious provider and giver of life, we anxiously await the celebration of your birth. Like the people of long ago, our ancestors in faith, we, too, are in need of light, in need of direction, in need of your Word, to show us the way. Our busy lives and the consumerism that surrounds us make it difficult to recognize your kingdom and to hear your voice. Help us Lord, to focus on you. We pray that you hear our prayer in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Annual Toy Drive The Saint John Bosco Church Youth Ministry will be sponsoring its annual Toy Drive. They will happily accept donations of toys, as well as any monetary assistance which you may be able to provide. All toy donations should be UNWRAPPED. Featuring famed organist Mark Thallander and concert pianist Timothy Durkovic, this concert Saint John Bosco Church will be a wonderful time to bring together the whole family to enjoy spectacular Presents arrangements of your favorite Advent and Carols for Keyboards Featuring Christmas carols. Mark was for over twenty years the organist at the landmark Crystal Cathedral in southern California, and was regularly seen by millions of viewers of the Hour of Power television broadcast each week. Tragically, Mark lost his left arm in an automobile accident some ten years ago. He has since rededicated his life to music and ministry, and travels throughout the Mark Thallander, organ country performing special arrangements, written, in many instances, specifically for him. His unwavering spirit, and joy-filled personality make him an audience favorite. Together with the incomparable Steinway Piano artist Timothy Durkovic, this will be an afternoon long remembered.
