Emmanuel Christian School 14th December 2017 Principal: Mr Scott Winkler Email: admin@emmanuel.tas.edu.au Phone: 6247 8476 From the Principal The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8 I would like to extend my congratulations to all the students who received awards at last night's Secondary Awards and Graduation evening. Well done on all you have achieved this year. Well done, too, Grade 10. It was lovely to be able to present you all with the Leavers Certificate. Last night was the culmination of many hours of hard work. I would like to single out the four students who received the Dux Awards. These awards acknowledge the top academic student in each year: Grade 7: Erin Cottuli; Grade 8: Sam Blake; Grade 9: Micah Roberts. The Dux of the School is Edward Nillsen. Congratulation should also be extended to the student leaders who were announced last night. Leaders for each grade are: Grade 8: Rhianna Badham Amy Bray Erin Cottuli Alana Langlois Grade 9: Matt Knibbe Grade 10: Micah Roberts Matthew Neville The School Captain for 2018 is Matthew Neville. Grade 7 students will be added once we get to meet the new students next year. I shared the following with those who came to the Awards night and the Grade 10 Graduate, specifically: Deuteronomy 31:8 was initially written to a group of people who were at a point not unlike our Grade 10s and you their families. The people of Israel were about to go into the promised land - Israel - without their leader, Moses. Continued page 2...
From the Principal continued: Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: I am now a hundred and twenty years old, and I am no longer able to lead you. Deuteronomy 31:1 & 2 They had learned to trust Moses and knew the environment they had been in for the last 40 years. Now they had to change. They had to go from the familiar to the unfamiliar. Grade 10 to Grade 11 in another school. Some of you may feel a sense of fear and trepidation. Some of the Israelites were very afraid. You might feel fear closer to starting Grade 11. Moses said: The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Scott Winkler Principal Secondary News: This is our final newsletter for 2017. Hasn t the year gone by quickly! The Secondary Awards evening last night was a fantastic way to celebrate God s goodness to us throughout this year, the achievements of so many of our students and the formal graduation of our Year 10 class. Thank you to all of the families and friends who came along and made this such a special and memorable night. A big thank you to all of the parents and guardians of the secondary school. You have been such a wonderful support to the teachers and have positively partnered with us in the education of your children throughout the year.
Primary News: Wednesday s Nativity Assembly was a delightful way to finish our Primary School year. We saw shepherds being amazed at a star, Wise men a little reticent to travel, many angels in joyful voice, innkeepers and of course, Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. The children were a delight and remembered lines and sang songs beautifully. Well done to Mrs Sargent and Mrs Sutcliffe for preparing them so beautifully! We also saw beautiful artwork, dioramas and heard Christmas Haikus. In this consumer driven world it was lovely to feel the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus our Saviour, being presented and celebrated so well. Blessings, AJ
Triathlon News: Last Thursday and Friday a number of Emmanuel Primary and Secondary students took part in the Schools Triathlon Challenge. Even though Bellerive beach was closed for swimming (so the swimmers had to run instead!) everyone did their best, both individually and in teams of three. Special congratulations to Isaac Haas, who came first in the Year 8 Boys individual event.
