Holy Family Parish Back to School Where did the summer go? It seems to go by faster and faster each passing year, and so we found ourselves welcoming our children back to school this past week at Prairie Catholic and in the coming weeks for public school children. Our Catholic school and CCD program remains one of the top priorities of our parish. Educating our youth in their faith is not an option, it is an obligation. How this is done remains as varied as the parishes in our diocese and the world, but to do it in a way that passes on the truths of our faith is something that we all strive for. I believe that our Catholic school offers something special for our children and our families. Is it perfect? No. Are there issues we know about and others that will come up during the year? Yes. This fall we will have new opportunities and challenges. We have a couple new teachers in our midst, and they are eager to begin working with our children. We have made some updates in technology over the summer, and will continue to do so as it becomes available (smart boards are being placed in the classrooms but are on back order). I continue to believe PCS is a special place. The rich tradition and history of Catholic education in Prairie du Chien will continue to be a top priority of Holy Family parish. Going along with this is seeing to the religious education of our young people not attending PCS. We are offering a new curriculum for grades 1 6 (7&8 when available). After reviewing this new curriculum, it offers solid Catholic teaching in a manner that hopefully children are better able to grasp. The CCD classes will begin at the end of September and will be on Wednesday evenings once again. If any parents do not have your children registered, please contact Pat Prochaska (326-8774) for registration packets. The JWalkers youth group is busy planning events for the upcoming year as well. This has been a blessing for our parish, offering our young people opportunities to gather in a faithfilled environment and ways to offer service to their parish and our community. They have served at Mass, volunteered at parish events and community events. Some of our young people went on a mission trip and are looking forward to similar experiences. Confirmation preparation continues to be a work in process. Bishop Callahan has expressed a desire that this be offered to high school age students, so we will be offering this to sophomores following a two year preparation. (cont. on next column) 3 We hope to develop a varied program that will help our young people not only deepen their knowledge of the faith, but will give them opportunities to see how to live their faith. A new program is under development that looks promising, and we hope to have it available yet this year. Thank you for your commitment to Catholic education in all forms. With your continued support, Catholic education will remain a viable alternative to the young people in our area for years to come. Looking forward to a great year! God bless Fr. CARE & SHARE...As many of you know, Care and Share is a program of Prairie Catholic School that assists families in difficult times with tuition assistance. It is our policy that no one receives a full tuition. However there are some in our community that do need assistance. The way this program works is a family can receive help as they require, and hopefully when their situation turns around they will be able to help keep the program going with a donation of their own. However, we need other funds as well. Any donation to this program will be very much appreciated. You may contact our school principal, Wade Marlow or myself; or you may place a donation in the Sunday collection basket with a note that it is to go to the Care and Share Fund. God bless and Thank You. Fr.
