Prayer to Our Lady, Help of Christians Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God and our Mother, Mary, thou seest the attacks that are everywhere made by the devil and the world upon the Catholic faith, in which, by God s grace, we intend to live and die, in order that we may attain to eternal glory. Do thou, the Help of Christians, renew thine ancient victories and save thy children. They entrust to thee their firm purpose never to enroll themselves in the societies hostile to our holy religion; do thou, who art all holy, present to thy divine Son our good resolutions and obtain for us the grace we need to be unshaken in their observance even to the end of life. Console the visible Head of the Church, sustain the Catholic episcopate, protect the clergy and people who proclaim thee Queen; by the power of thine intercession hasten the day when all nations shall be gathered at the feet of the chief Shepherd. Amen. Mary, Help of Christians, pray for us! In Memoriam Remember in your prayers Mr. Daniel Ziglinski Born the 14 th of September 1967 Called by God the 15 th of May 2010 Fortified by the Sacraments of Holy Church Lux ætérna lúceat ei, Dómine : cum sanctis tuis in ætérnum, quia pius es. May light eternal shine upon him, O Lord. With thy saints forever, because Thou art merciful.

SUNDAY AFTER THE ASCENSION INTROIT Psalm 26:7-9 Exáudi, Dómine, vocem meam, qua clamavi ad te, allelúia: tibi dixit cor meum, quæsívi vultum tuum, vultum tuum, Dómine, requíram: ne avértas fáciem tuam a me, allelúia, allelúia. Psalm 26:1 Dóminus illuminatio mea, et salus mea: quem timébo?. Glória Patri Exaudi, Domine, vocem meam Hear, O Lord, my voice with which I have cried to Thee, alleluia; my heart hath said to Thee, I have sought Thy face, Thy face, O Lord, I will seek: turn not away Thy face from me, alleluia, alleluia. Psalm 26:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation: whom shall I fear?. Glory be to the Father Hear, O Lord, my voice with which I have cried COLLECT Omnípotens sempitérne Deus: fac nos tibi semper et devótam gérere voluntátem; et maiestáti tuæ sincéro corde servíre. O almighty and everlasting God, make us bear towards Thee always a devoted will, and serve Thy majesty with a sincere heart. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. EPISTLE 1 Peter 4:7-11 Estóte prudéntes, et vigiláte in oratiónibus. Ante ómnia autem, mútuam in vobismetípsis caritátem contínuam habéntes: quia cáritas óperit multitúdinem peccatórum. Hospitáles ínvicem sine murmuratióne. Unusquísque, sicut accépit grátiam, in altérutrum illam administrántes, sicut boni dispensatóres multifórmis grátiæ Dei. Dearly beloved, be prudent and watchful in prayers. But above all things have a constant mutual charity among yourselves; for charity covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without murmuring. According to the gift that each has received, administer it to one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let it be as with words of God. If anyone ministers, let it be as from the strength that God furnishes; that in all things God may be honored through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Alleluia, alleluia.. Psalm 46:9 The Lord hath reigned over all the nations; God sitteth on His holy throne. Alleluia.. John. 14:18 I will not leave you orphans: I go away, and I come unto you, and your heart shall rejoice. Alleluia. 2

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: But when the Advocate has come, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness concerning me. And you also bear witness, because from the beginning you are with me. These things I have spoken to you that you may not be scandalized. They will expel you from the synagogues. Yes, the hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering worship to God. And these things they will do because they have not known the Father nor me. But these things I have spoken to you, that when the time for them has come you may remember that I told you. God is ascended with a shout of joy, and the Lord with the sound of a trumpet, alleluia. May these spotless Sacrifices purify us, O Lord, and give to our minds the strength of heavenly grace. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Father, while I was with them, I kept them whom Thou gavest Me, alleluia; but now I come to Thee: I pray not that Thou shouldst take them out of the world, but that Thou shouldst keep them from evil, alleluia, alleluia. Grant, we beseech Thee, O Lord, that being filled with Thy sacred gifts, we may ever remain in thanksgiving for them. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. 3

REGISTER NOW FOR CHOIR CAMP IN AUGUST The Institute is pleased to offer a unique opportunity to children age 9-15: a completely immersive experience in Catholic choral music and musicianship. The splendid campus of the Ursuline Motherhouse of Mount Saint Joseph in Kentucky will provide the ideal setting for the camp. Choristers who attend the choir camp will enter a world of daily prayer and music-making, including singing two masses, with their fellow campers. The personal musical advancement the choristers make will be comparable to a full year of standard weekly choir rehearsals. Classes are taught by practicing Catholic musicians. The cost is $360 for the first camper, $310 for the second, and $250 for each camper thereafter. A limited amount of space is available. You may register online (www.institute-christ-king.org). See the brochure for more information, including the list of faculty, staff of chaperones and camp counselors, and a complete schedule. Please direct questions to Mr. Nick Botkins (314-771-3100 or nbotkins@institute-christ-king.org) at the Institute's St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis, Missouri. 4

Calling all Singers! The choir provides a perfect opportunity to express the praises of Almighty God. The choir directress, Miss Becky Pawlowski, is looking for more signers who would like to join the choir. If you are interested, please contact Miss Pawlowski at (816) 507-0911. THE HOLY CROSS WEATHER BLESSING From May 3rd to September 14th, using a relic of the True Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ, there is a special blessing which asks God s protection against violent storms that frequently occur during these summer months. It is customarily given after Low Masses during this time. Copies of the text are on the bulletin table. Car Blessing May 23 rd Summer will soon be here, and many will take to the roads as they go on vacation. Desiring safe travels, the blessing of automobiles will be given on Sunday, May 23 rd after both Masses. Canon Avis will say the prayer of blessing from the church doors and then go and sprinkle each car. Those who would like their cars blessed are invited to stand by their vehicles so that Canon Avis will know which cars to sprinkle with holy water. INTRODUCTION TO THE DEVOUT LIFE BY SAINT FRANCIS DE SALES Part III, Chapter 19 Real Friendship Do you, my child, love every one with the pure love of charity, but have no friendship save with those whose conversation is good and true, and the purer the bond which unites you so much higher will your friendship be. If your association is based on science it is praiseworthy, still more if it arises from a participation in goodness, prudence, justice and the like; but if the bond of your mutual liking be charity, devotion and Christian perfection, God knows how very precious a friendship it is! Precious because it comes from God, because it tends to God, because God is the link that binds you, because it will last for ever in Him. Truly it is a blessed thing to love on earth as we hope to love in Heaven, and to begin that friendship here which is to endure for ever there. I am not now speaking of simple charity, a love due to all mankind, but of that spiritual friendship which binds souls together, leading them to share devotions and spiritual interests, so as to have but one mind between them. Such as these may well cry out, "Behold, how good and joyful a thing it is, brethren, to dwell together in unity!"even so, for the "precious ointment" of devotion trickles continually from one heart to the other, so that truly we may say that to such friendship the Lord promises His Blessing and life for evermore. To my mind all other friendship is but as a shadow with respect to this, its links mere fragile glass compared to the golden bond of true devotion. Do you form no other friendships. I say "form," because you have no right to cast aside or neglect the natural bonds which draw you to relations, acquaintances, benefactors or neighbors. My rules apply to those you deliberately choose to make. There are some who will tell you that you should avoid all special affection or friendship, as likely to engross the heart, distract the mind, excite jealousy and what not. But they are confusing things. They have read in the works of saintly and devout writers that individual friendships and special intimacies are a great hindrance in the religious life, and therefore they suppose it to be the same with everyone, which is not at all the case. Whereas in a well-regulated community every one's aim is true devotion, there is no need for individual associations, which might exceed due limits;--in the world those who aim at a devout life require to be united one with another by a holy friendship, which excites, stimulates and encourages them in well-doing. Just as men traversing a plain have no need to hold one another up, as they have who are amid slippery mountain paths, so religious do not need the stay of individual friendships; but those who are living in the world require such for strength and comfort amid the difficulties which beset them. In the world all have not one aim, one mind, and therefore we must take to us congenial friends, nor is there any undue partiality in such attachments, which are but as the separation of good from evil, the sheep from the goats, the bee from the drone--a necessary separation.
