Why Everyday Is A Good Day Scripture: Psalm 118: 24 This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Introduction The next time you think you re having a REALLY BAD DAY I want you to remember this guy. The Man Who Had A Really Bad Day! (A True Story) A man was working on his motorcycle on his patio and his wife was in the kitchen. The man started racing the engine on his motorcycle when all the sudden it slipped into gear. The man, still holding tightly to the handle bars was dragged through the big plate glass patio window and dumped onto the floor inside. His wife came running out of the kitchen to find him lying on the floor cut up and bleeding, with the motorcycle lying next to him. She ran to the phone and called for an ambulance. Because they lived on a large hill, the wife went down several flights of stars to the street to escort the paramedics to her husband. After loading her husband on the gurney, the wife noticed that gasoline from the motorcyle had spilled all over the floor. She blotted up the gasoline with paper towels and threw them in the toilet. Her husband s injuries turned out not to be too serious, and he was treated and released. Upon arriving home and seeing the damage he had caused to the patio door and the inside of the house, the husband became so despondent he went to the bathroom, sat down on the toilet and lit up a cigarette. He threw the burning match between his legs into the toilet bowl.
Soon the wife heard a loud explosion and her husband screaming. She ran into the bathroom and discovered her husband s pants had been blown off and he had severe burns on the backs of his legs and his bottom. The wife again summonsed an ambulance and sure enough, it was the same crew that responded earlier that day. The paramedics loaded the husband on the stretcher and as they were going down the steps to the street below, one of the paramedics asked the wife how her husband had been burned. After telling them what happened the paramedics started laughing so hard one of them slipped and accidentally tipped the stretcher over dumping the husband out. He fell down the remaining steps and broke his arm. ---------------- Who among us doesn t have a BAD DAY now and then? You know the kind of day I m talking about: Those days when everything goes wrong and nothing goes right. Those burnt toast, flat tire, lose your keys, rip your pants kind of days. Still for others...bad DAYS seem to be more of a way of life rather than an occasional occurrence. *Some people live in TERRIBLE LONELINESS everyday! *Some people live in EXCRUTIATING PAIN everyday! *Some people live with a DEHABILITATING DISEASE everyday! *Some people live with INTENSE MARITAL STRIFE everyday! But do you know in spite of our circumstances, every day is a good day, depending on how you look at it. Its all a matter of perspective.
For the remainder of the message I want to share with you FOUR REASONS WHY EVERY DAY IS A GOOD DAY. *************** I. Everyday Is A Good Day Because God Is The Maker of Everyday PSALM 118: 24 (Read from the Bible) This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Genesis 1: 3 And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light DAY and the darkness he called NIGHT and there was evening, and there was morning...the first day. 1. GOD made the very first day and He has been making every day since. Every day you and I wake up is a GIFT FROM GOD! Every day you and I are above GROUND is a BLESSING! 2. Whether it is A RAINY DAY or SUNNY DAY Whether it is A COLD DAY or A HOT DAY Whether it is A HECTIC DAY or A SLOW DAY. Whether it is A HAPPY DAY or A SAD DAY. Whether its a DAY WE LOOKED FORWARD TO or A DAY WE DREADED TO SEE COME.
It Is A Day God Made For Us, and we should rejoice and be glad in it! 3. TODAY is a new opportunity to hug a child, thank a teacher, visit a friend, walk the dog, call home, or write a letter. TODAY is a new opportunity to right a wrong...wipe a tear...lend a hand...lift a spirit...heal a hurt...lighten a load...mend a fence...or tear down a wall. TODAY is a new opportunity to love someone...to encourage someone...to forgive someone...and to serve someone. 4. TOMORROW is the future that may never come... YESTERDAY is the past that can t be undone. BUT TODAY IS A GOOD DAY, BECAUSE GOD MADE TODAY!
II. Everyday Is A Good Day Because God Is The Same Everyday HEBREWS 13:8 (Read from Bible) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. 1. We never know from one day to the next but what our circumstances won t change. Our circumstances are unpredictable and uncertain. -One day we may be a picture of health, the next we may be bed ridden. -One day we may have a job, the next day we may be un-employed. -One day our family circle may be unbroken, the next day it may be broken. -One day we may have plenty, the next day we may be in need. -One day we may have peace, the next day we may have trouble. 2. But though our DAILY CIRCUMSTANCES may change, the God who makes each and every day never changes.
3. I used to have a poster in my office which read: No matter what happens to me today, nothing changes these three truths: God is Still God, God is still on his throne, and God is still in control. GOD is faithful to me every day! GOD loves me every day! GOD cares for me every day! GOD provides for me every day! GOD watches over me every day! 5. That means that no matter how bad my day has been it is still a GOOD DAY because GOD IS THE SAME EVERY DAY! Thirdly... III. Everyday Is A Good Day Because God Is Renewing Us Every Day II CORINTHIANS 4: 16-18 (Read from Bible) Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us and eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
1. Every single day we live our OUTWARD MAN is getting older. -Every day OUR HAIR gets a little grayer. -OUR EYES grow a little dimmer. -OUR EARS become a little deafer. -OUR JOINTS become a little sorer -OUR FACE sags a little lower. -OUR MIND becomes a little duller. -OUR MOVEMENTS get a little slower 2. But while OUTWARDLY WE ARE WASTING AWAY... Each and every day, we are being RENEWED INWARDLY. 3. Through...ALL OUR BAD DAYS ALL OUR SAD DAYS ALL OUR TRIAL-FILLED DAYS ALL OUR TROUBLESOME DAYS ALL OUR STRESSFUL DAYS ALL OUR BURDENSOME DAYS ALL OUR DISCOURAGING DAYS ALL OUR PAINFUL DAYS ALL OUR LONELY DAYS GOD IS RENEWING US INWARDLY. Every single day we live GOD is renewing us...remaking us...and... rebuilding us...to get us ready for Eternal Life with him. 4. YES...EVERYDAY IS A GOOD DAY, BECAUSE GOD IS RENEWING US DAY BY DAY. ------------------------
Finally... IV. Everyday Is A Good Day Because God Is Bringing Us Closer To Heaven Every Day ROMANS 13: 11, 12 (Read from Bible) And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 1. Each and every day God gives you and me to live is moving us farther and farther from that day when we first walked down the aisle to accept Christ...and closer and closer to that day when our FAITH is going to be made SIGHT. 2. Right now we can only dream of heaven...but each and every day is bringing us closer to that time when the dream will become reality. Right now we can only imagine what heaven will be like...but each and every day is bringing us closer to that time when we will experience it rather than imagine it. 3. Realize that EVERY NEW DAY...Every sunrise and Every Sunset...is: -ONE MORE DAY LIVED -ONE MORE STEP TAKEN -ONE MORE MILEPOST PASSED
4. EVERY DAY brings us one day closer to that day when we go to the place....where you will see your loved ones again....the place where you ll never shed another tear....never carry another burden...never face another trial...never feel another pain....never battle another temptation...and never say another goodbye 4. YES...EVERYDAY IS A GOOD DAY, BECAUSE EVERYDAY BRINGS US ONE DAY CLOSER TO HEAVEN. CONCLUSION TODAY I can complain because the weather is rainy Or I can be thankful that my grass is getting watered for free. TODAY I can feel said that I don t have more money Or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from wasteful spending. TODAY I can grumble about my health Or I can rejoice that I am alive. TODAY I can gripe about all the things my parents didn t give me when I was growing up OR...I can feel grateful that my parents allowed me to be born. TODAY I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.
TODAY I can mourn my lack of friends or I can excitedly embark on a quest to discover new relationships. TODAY I can whine because I have to go to work Or I can rejoice that I have a job to go to. TODAY I can grumble about all the housework I have to do Or I can be grateful that God has put a roof over my head. TODAY I can dwell on everything that s wrong with my life Or I can dwell on everything that is right. TODAY I can worry over what this world is coming to Or I can watch for My Master s Second Coming. No matter what trials or troubles A DAY may bring, EVERY DAY IS A GOOD DAY... BECAUSE GOD IS THE MAKER OF EVERY DAY! BECAUSE GOD IS THE SAME EVERY DAY! BECAUSE GOD IS RENEWING US EVERY DAY! BECAUSE GOD IS BRINGING US CLOSER TO HEAVEN EVERY DAY! This is the DAY the Lord has made, let us REJOICE and be glad in it!
