We ask everyone to please keep them in your prayers. 2ND COLLECTION THIS WEEK This weekend s second collection is to assist the Church in Latin America. Your support shares the faith with those in need including the youth of Holy Family parish in San Miguel, El Salvador. These young people, at risk for violence, often lack an education in values and critical thinking skills. To address this need, the parish designed a youth enrichment program which gives them the opportunity to share their faith and break the cycle of violence in their neighborhoods. Thank you.

AUGUST 02, 2015 ST. COLUMBANUS CHURCH_ 481/PAGE FOUR NOTES FROM OUR PASTOR... When I visited Rome in 1997 I was surprised to find out that most of the pictures in St. Peter s Basicilia are in reality mosaics of famous paintings. Such is the case for Raphael s famous painting of the Transfiguration. Painted in 1516, a mosaic was put in St. Peter s in 1774. Thursday, August 6, we will celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration. Before He was to suffer and die, Our Lord appeared in glory with Moses and Elijah on Mt. Tabor as Peter, James and John looked on in awe and fear. Before He was to suffer and die, Jesus showed that He was the Messiah, the fulfillment of the prophets (Elijah) and the Law (Moses). The Catechism of the Catholic Church quotes a Byzantine prayer (Eastern Rite of the Catholic Church) that says: You were transfigured on the mountain, and your disciples, as much as they were capable of it, beheld your glory, O Christ our God, so that when they should see you crucified they would understand that your Passion was voluntary, and to proclaim to the world that you truly are the splendor of the Father. The Catechism goes on to say that the Transfiguration is a foreshadowing of not only Christ s resurrection but also that he will change our lowly body to be like His glorious body. (Phil 3:21) But we can enter into the kingdom of God only by faithfully carrying our cross. Especially by uniting ourselves in our sacrifice to Jesus sacrifice renewed at Mass can we experience here and now a foretaste of heaven. During these waning days of summer don t miss this opportunity, don t miss Sunday Mass. Our spiritual health depends on it and so does our eternal salvation. Fr. Frank Samoylo MID-SUMMER FLEA MARKET & TAG SALE The Columbiettes invite everyone to attend their 1st Summer Flea Market & Tag Sale & FUN on Saturday, August 15th, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the lower parking lot.
