We think of July 4, 1776, as a day that represents the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the United States of America as an independent nation. July 4, 1776 wasn't the day that the Continental Congress decided to declare independence, they did that on July 2, 1776. It wasn t the day we started the American Revolution either, that had happened back in April 1775. And it wasn't the day Thomas Jefferson wrote the first draft of the Declaration of Independence, that was in June 1776. The Continental Congress agreed on all of the changes and approved the final wording of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. July 4, 1776, became the date that was included on the Declaration of Independence and the fancy handwritten copy that was signed in August, the copy now displayed at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. It s also the date that was printed on the Dunlap Broadsides, the original printed copies of the Declaration that were circulated throughout the new nation. So when people think of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776 is the date they remembered. TESTIMONY 6 LETTER FROM PRESIDENT 7 PRAYER REQUEST 8 This is a monthly publication produced by LCM. Volume 13, Iss ue 7 Page 3 We meet the first Saturday of every month. Our last gathering was on June 4th in Clemente Park. Despite the heat we served about 50 people. The numbers are down because of the threat of storms and the heat, but there are several "regulars" who are faithful to show up no matter what the weather is. We served the meal, gave out hygiene packets and clothing after Raymond preached the message. We were able to get some children's clothing for one of our regulars who had a family "drop off" some children with nothing to wear. It was rewarding to be able to help. We will be at the park the first Saturday of each month, if the Good Lord is willing. Frani Strever Street Watch If you would like to join this wonderful team in serving our Lord or wish to support them, please call Dave Strever at 239-677-9338. Thank You! Volume 13, Iss ue 7 Page 6 I was born to Christian parents and my mother said I was born one Sunday and in church the next. As a little one, there were many sermons about tithes and speaking of how all we have comes from God. As a teenager I understood this, and when I babysat God got 10% the following Sunday. After high school I got a job. At 23 years old I moved out from home and lived on my own. God still got His share and I never went without enough food and my rent was paid on time. As time went by, I found that with God s share, an extra amount could be added and still what was left, always took care of my needs to the next paycheck and even some went into a saving account. Twenty three years ago, I had cancer surgery. No treatments followed. I prayed for God s Will to be done, and I received a miracle, doctors say I am still clear of cancer. Praise God! The same year I had a brain aneurysm and brain surgery followed. In spite of the fact it was considered fatal, many prayed for my recovery. God took over, more praises unto Him! God still had a plan for my life. I met a widower of seven years that was very lonesome. We were thankful to share that part of our life together. Now I find myself praying for others that need a miracle as I did many times in my life time. She wanted to share Malachi 3:8 (KJV) Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. By: Leoma D. We wanted to share a testimony from one of our Compassion Partners They need your help! The Lord has taught us to be good stewards of the resources He has provided. We are constantly looking for ways to cut our expenses while helping more people. There has been an increase in needs in our community and the needs are ever changing. The number of people getting out of prison and the number of successful entries into drug/alcohol programs has declined. Many need a program but there are so few beds available. We have seen many get denied due to battery or sexual assault charges. We have had an increase of family evictions and car issues that have caused mainly single women with children to become homeless or lose their jobs. This breaks our hearts. If you can help within any of these areas, please call us at 239-574-Love (5683) Youth Ministry In His Service Prison Ministry Homeless Ministry Prayer Ministry Correspondence Ministry Drug Program Ministry Bread Ministry Newsletter Ministry We need your support to keep all these ministries going! Volume 13, Iss ue 7 Page 7 Friends and Partners, We know for a fact that we have all been born and if the Lord does not come back in our life time, we will die one day. However, most of us regularly ignore this fact. Just as a new birth affects the lives of countless people, so does death. For many of us, nothing that we will ever do in our lives will have an effect on the people closest to us, as our birth and our death. If a life lasts nine days or nine decades, the pain, shock and disappointments are the same. Many times the pain for those left here on earth, seems overwhelming. My dad is 96 years old and is dying from skin cancer and issues with his heart. He has lived a good life and has been a good father to his two sons. My brother that is 61 years old is dying from COPD. The doctors have given him only a few months to live. He has been smoking since he was sixteen years old and is still smoking even though he knows that the Center for Disease Control says that smoking leads to disease and disability. It harms nearly every organ of the body. More than 16 million Americans are living with a disease caused by smoking. For every person who dies because of smoking, at least 30 people live with a serious smoking-related illness. Smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung diseases, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Smoking also increases risk for tuberculosis, certain eye diseases and problems of the immune system, including rheumatoid arthritis. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death. Worldwide, tobacco use causes nearly 6 million deaths per year and current trends show that tobacco use will cause more than 8 million deaths annually by 2030. Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including nearly 42,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure. This is about one in five deaths annually, or 1,300 deaths every day. On average, smokers die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers. Each day, more than 3,200 people younger than 18 years of age smoke their first cigarette. In 2012, $9.17 billion was spent on advertising and promotion of cigarettes - more than $25 million every day, or more than $1 million every hour. Please pray with me that Christians will wake up to the tricks that satan is using to destroy our relationship with God, our families and friends. Smoking pollutes the temple of the Lord and it traps people into addiction, so that even the choice to smoke or eat becomes a decision where the addicted chooses the former and in doing so slowly destroys the body which they have been blessed. Please pray for salvation for these people who may be nearing their last breath and will forever be separated from our Glorious Father. In the Presence of our Lord, Ron Willis Ron Willis, President Love and Compassion Ministries, Inc. To God Be The Glory!
