EMMANUEL EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH Mission: "To Share God's Salvation with Everyone! The Day of Pentecost May 15, 2016 WELCOME VISITORS! We are glad to have you with us today and pray our service is a blessing to you. It is our sincere hope that you will come to worship with us again. THE DAY OF PENTECOST Genesis 11:1 9 Acts 2:1 21 John 14:23 31 The Holy Spirit Gives Peace Following the flood, Noah s descendants failed to spread out and fill the earth as God had spoken. Rather, they exalted themselves; with one language and the same words (Gen. 11:1), they spoke proudly and arrogantly. The Lord humbled them by confusing the language of all the earth, dividing and dispersing the people (Gen. 11:9). That dispersal was reversed on Pentecost Day (the 50th day of Easter), when God caused the one Gospel of the Lord, Jesus Christ, to be preached in a multitude of languages. At this sound the multitude came together (Acts 2:6), for the preaching of Christ is the primary work of the Holy Spirit, whereby He gathers people from all nations into one Church. The Holy Spirit teaches and brings to our remembrance the words of Jesus, which are the words of the Father who sent Him. These words bestow forgiveness and peace to those who keep and hold on to them in love for Jesus. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid (John 14:27). Page 1

Mission Corner Rev. Mark and Stefanie Rabe serve the Lord as career missionaries through The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) in Ethiopia. Mark teaches at Mekane Yesus Seminary in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This seminary is dedicated to training faithful Lutheran pastors and other church workers to serve in Ethiopia. Pray for Mark, Stefanie and their children as they serve in Ethiopia. Pray God gives their entire family strength and peace as they transition back to overseas mission work, learning the culture and the language. Pray also for their continued health and safety. Ask God to be with Stefanie and the children as she homeschools them. Pray for the church in Ethiopia and for the faculty, staff and students at Mekane Yesus Seminary. Ask God to give Mark His wisdom and guidance as he teaches these students and helps them prepare to become faithful Lutheran pastors, lay evangelists and other professional church workers. Emmanuel News & Events EMMANUEL OUTREACH VIA ELECTRONIC MEDIA: Now you can listen to the recording of the Sunday Morning Adult Bible Class online by visiting the Emmanuel webpage www.emmanuellutheranaurora.com. ESV LUTHERAN STUDY BIBLES in paperback are now available for purchase in the church office. There are 4 copies for sale at $5.00 each. They can be purchased during church office hours, Tues-Fri from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. ON APRIL 6 TH, our Emmanuel pipe organ was removed for repair and renovation. AB Pipe Organ Service has been contracted by our congregation to do the work. The pipe organ will return in approximately 4-6 weeks. The piano in the Sanctuary will be used for worship services in its absence. THE ORGAN REPAIR FUND has received donations of $34,716.99. That is over 2/3 of the $48,814.00 needed. Thanks to all who have been so generous in contributing to this cause. Please continue to remember the Organ Repair Fund for memorials, special gifts, etc. It has come to our attention that the chimes do not function and were not included in the repair quote for the organ. The actual chimes do not need to be replaced but the mechanism that activates them does require replacement. The cost is $6,980.00. If anyone would like to make a special gift for the chimes, please see someone on the committee. If there is enough interest, arrangements could be made for the renovation of the chimes. Page 4

THE CHARITABLE ACCOUNT FUND received a request for a donation to be sent to St. Paul School in Flint, MI. They are having a serious problem with lead in their water. They need to drink bottled water and are requesting help to purchase a new dish washer. The Charitable Committee has approved and sent them a donation of $75.00 to use toward a dish washer or any other problem incurred by this water situation. Please keep the teachers and children of St. Paul School in your prayers as well as the residents of Flint as they go through this problem. Pray that a resolution to their problem will soon be made. THE ALTAR & FLOWER GUILD will hold their annual end of the year Picnic on Wednesday, June 1 st at 12:00 noon at the Hounds Blue Moon Restaurant, 2124 W. Galena Blvd. in Aurora. For reservations, please contact Jean Meyer at 630-801-9866. Jim Davis would like to thank everyone for all the prayers, calls, and visits during his recovery. They were much appreciated.
