Prelude Selections Invocation * Opening Hymn When I Survey the Wondrous Cross # 300 Hamburg words and music by Watts and Mason 1. When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of glory died, my richest gain I count but loss and pour contempt on all my pride. 2. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, save in the death of Christ my God: All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. 3. See, from His head, His hands, His feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down: Did e er such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown? Call to Confession Prayer of Confession (in unison) O God, we tend to follow Jesus until the cross comes into view. Then we falter in our discipleship, although we never forget the glory on the other side of the cross. Forgive us when we depart from our Savior on His path of sorrow He took in order to give us a home in glory. Keep us close to Christ; that through life and death, we may finally experience the glory of living in Your kingdom. Amen. Assurance of Pardon * Statement of Faith The Nicene Creed L: Christians, what do you believe? P: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God of God, Light of Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius 9

Chaplain Beale Text: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. * Hymn of Response Beneath the Cross of Jesus # 471 St. Christopher words and music by Clephane and Maker If you wish to receive communion in the pew, please sit on the pulpit side. Upon the cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see the very dying form of One who suffered there for me: And from my stricken heart with tears two wonders I confess the wonders of redeeming love and my unworthiness. 3.
