One of the best mission trips you can take is walking across your yard. On average, out of ten houses on your street, only ONE of those families attends church on a regular basis. In fact, fewer than 100,000 people each Sunday could be counted at 941 congregations in metro Louisville. That means nearly 1 million of our neighbors view church as either irrelevant, boring or both. Because of that, Highview supports both traditional and non-traditional means of impacting Kentucky and southern Indiana for Jesus Christ. 5

Necole s Place and A Woman s Choice Resource Center provide women with a life-saving alternative to abortion. Pregnancy testing and pre-natal care are some of the services offered. Necole s Place is an extension of A Woman s Choice Resource Center. Women can complete their GED, get in shape and most of all grow closer to the Lord. For more information, contact Necole s Place at 502.569.0494 or visit www.awomanschoice.org. R.O.C.K. stands for Reclaim Our Culture, Kentuckiana. R.O.C.K stands against pornography and other facets of the sex industry that cripple lives and destroy families. Brian Wickens, a local attorney and president of R.O.C.K., has led the organization to strongly influence our community. This grass roots organization is also involved in the protection of religious expression, as well as repelling the assault by secular humanism and atheism on marriages, our children, and our community. For more information, contact R.O.C.K. at 502.297.9892 or visit www. reclaimourculture.org. Fern Creek United Ministries This partnership between businesses and churches in the Fern Creek/Highview area pools resources to provide food, clothing, and emergency financial assistance for families who find themselves in a crisis situation. For more information, please contact Fern Creek United Ministries at 502.762.0630. Some people need a new start. Highview s prison ministry exists to meet the physical, emotional, and most importantly the spiritual needs of current or recent inmates of area jails and prisons. For more information on prison ministry, contact 502.239.7711. The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary The Lord has blessed Highview as we have seen dozens of believers called to ministry. Through our connection with Southern Seminary, we also have the opportunity to 6

train students to do the work of full-time ministry. We have trained over 100 ministers who are serving all around the world, impacting the kingdom with the gospel. The SOF affords Christian brotherhood and Shield of sisterhood for those in public service occupations. Faith In these high stress vocations, an oasis of peace waits through fellowship with men and women in the law enforcement/ public service community. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is touching millions of lives... one heart at a time. Since 1954, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been challenging coaches and athletes to live out their faith through sports. FCA is the largest Christian sports organization in America. FCA focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ. Sunrise Children s Sunrise Children s Services provides care and hope for hurting families and children through Christcentered ministries. Sunrise is committed to Home providing quality professional care to children and families in need. More information available at www.sunrise.org. local missions 7

Spencer County Campus Residents in Spencer County made a request in 2005 for Highview to bring a campus into their community. Highview Spencer County was launched at that time. Lead Pastor Nick Moore has a vision to impact the community of Spencer County. The congregation that meets at the Spencer County Middle School is now the largest Southern Baptist Church in Kentucky s fastest growing county! Indiana Campus The Ohio River not only separates Kentucky from Indiana, it is also apparently the dividing line for Baptists. There are fewer than two dozen Southern Baptist Churches in Southern Indiana. Highview stepped into the gap two years ago, berthing a new family of faith that worships each Sunday morning at Silver Creek Middle School. Lead Pastor Troy Temple and the leadership team at the Indiana Campus are committed to reaching Southern Indiana for Christ. Hispanic Campus - La Respuesta Hispanics are the fastest growing segment of the population in Kentucky. As an example, 80% of the labor force utilized by the state s tobacco industry is Hispanic. Highview is reaching out with a service for Hispanics at the Fegenbush campus led by Lead Pastor Ramon Osorio, who has a vision and a passion to see them come to know Christ. 8

Highview students going door to door on a mission trip in Philadelphia PLANTING CHURCHES NATIONWIDE The United States of America was berthed as a Christian nation. Yet through the years, the echo of faith sounded by our Founding Fathers has been quieted by busyness, apathy, and success. Highview Baptist Church wants to reprise the conversation by speaking with God s voice, touching with His hands, seeing with His eyes, and loving with His heart. We are partnering with other churches and the North American Mission Board to shout the sound of salvation from one end of America to the other. We are planting churches in the following cities...

New York City Gallery Church of Manhattan Aaron Coe and a team of others launched The Gallery Church in New York City in September of 2006. His dream is to see people passionately embrace their life s calling and live that out through the local church, in the context of the city. He holds a degree in Recording Industry Management from Middle Tennessee State University and is completing a Masters degree from Southern Seminary s New York City extension center. Since the launching of The Gallery Church, the church has grown to include 3 different gathering locations in New York City (Upper West Side, Chelsea/Park Slope, Brooklyn). The church has also started over 19 small group Bible studies that meet all over the metro area. In the spring of 2008, The Gallery Church launched a brand new church in in Baltimore, Maryland. The Gallery Church was also featured at Rick and Kay Warren s Global Summit on HIV/AIDS for its work in New York City related to people who suffer from this disease. Aaron, his wife Carmen, and their son, Ezra James, live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Carmen and Aaron were married in 1998 after dating for 4 years. They moved to NYC in 2003 to work with New Hope New York, a non-profit agency based in Manhattan. Carmen is now a freelance media planner working with major clients in San Diego, Baltimore, Cleveland, and NYC. Ezra James was born on July 8, 2006. He is the joy of his parent s life. His dad believes that he will be a great addition to the New York Knicks in just a few short years. Pastor Aaron, his wife Carmen, and their son Ezra 12

Philadelphia Riverside Community Church The City of Brotherly Love isn t feeling much love these days. Crime is so pervasive, the Philadelphia police commissioner recently empowered 10,000 citizens to patrol the streets to deter violence. A show of power is exactly what Philadelphia needs: The power of the Holy Spirit! We are excited about our continued partnership with Pastor Aaron Harvie as he leads his church to become one church with two locations. Indianapolis The capital city of Indiana is booming. Indianapolis has recently become the 12th largest city in America. But the growth of churches has not kept pace with the surge in population. Drive north of downtown through Hamilton County, and you ll pass thousands of brand new neighborhoods and only one Southern Baptist Church. Highview is teaming up with the Indiana Baptist Convention and the North American Mission Board to plant a new church in one of the fastest growing areas in the Midwest. Atlanta 1027 Church 1027 Church Pastor Tim Wolfe is praying for Christ followers who share his burden for the downtown area of Atlanta. Pastor Tim is burdened to reach the lost and are committed to helping. Our students will be descending upon Atlanta during their 2009 spring break to make an impact on the city and we ll be investing time, resources, and energy into 1027 Church. 14

Cleveland Ukrainian Church Plant Cleveland got saddled with the moniker The Mistake by the Lake 30 years ago when a portion of nearby Lake Erie caught fire. Now something else has caught fire in Cleveland---a passion for the Ukrainian community! There are over 55,000 people in north central Ohio who claim a Ukrainian heritage. They are so immersed in their native culture that many of them speak little or no English. Oleh Zhakunets says because there are no evangelical churches in Cleveland that speak their native language, the Ukrainians are a lost people. Oleh and his brother Ihor Zhakunets were born in Ukraine and have a heart to introduce their 20-30 year old contemporaries to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Boise Highview is finding ways to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ west of the Mississippi. The Lord laid Boise on our hearts and we have found a dynamic church planter named Josh Gilbert who is already doing great things in this western city. We are investigating how to launch a new church in Boise, the place Money Magazine ranked in 2008 as the #2 city in America in which to live.

God has a special concern for those who do not have the love, care, and spiritual direction of their parents. At Highview, we want to share the heartbeat of God. We have 52 families in our church that have brought home 77 kids with many more families in process to bring home more kids. Families at Highview have brought home children from the USA, Guatemala, China, Ethiopia, Haiti, South Korea, Philippines, and Russia. For more information on adoption ministry, contact Tera Melber at tmelber@highview.org or 502.239.7711. The Adoption and Orphan Care Ministry of Highview Baptist Church exists to: Educate families on the plight of orphans and the biblical mandate to care for the them. Encourage those families who feel called to adopt and to partner with them as they journey through the adoption process. Equip families as they consider adoption by providing resources for the adoption process and beyond. Engage families in becoming involved in orphan care through advocacy and mission opportunities. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress... James 1:27

INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS 18

INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS PARTNERS North Africa Over the past decade, Highview has consistently invested in North Africa. We are positioned to further leverage our influence in North Africa for the Kingdom. India India is one of the fastest growing areas of the world. It s also one of the least reached group of people. What an amazing opportunity we have to make a global investment! Vietnam Norman Coe served faithfully in the Vietnam War. Today, we are partnering with Bro. Norman on his second mission; one aimed at reaching Vietnamese with the Gospel. Zimbabwe Zimbabwe is literlally on the other side of the world. As a church we feel a great calling to do whatever it takes to reach the people of Zimbabwe. Southeast Asia Highview is praying, giving, and going to Asia. We are dedicated to building a bridge of relationship with the people of Asia. Zambia Highview members made an impact in Zambia in 2008 with a summer mission trip. We hope to further develop our relationship with missionaries in Zambia in 2009. Guatemala Guatemala has grown dear to our church. From children who have been adopted to numerous mission trips, our church has truly adopted this country. Honduras Highview is looking to begin work in Honduras as a team of families are set to spend a week of their summer ministering in this Latin American country. Puerto Rico Puerto Rico is a vacation spot for some. For student missionaries at Highview, Puerto Rico will be an unforgettable place of Gospel impact in 2009. Central Asia Muslim areas are difficult to reach with the Gospel. Highview is partnering with missionaries on the ground in southeast Asia to reach those without hope in Jesus. Brazil One of the most beautiful places in the world is Brazil. However, it is also one of the darkest areas of the world in terms of Gospel influence. We want to make Jesus famous in Brazil. 19 Philippines When Bob Tebow isn t cheering on his son Tim to a Florida victory, he s probably ministering in the Philippines. We partner with the Tebows to impact the Philipppines.

North Africa Among the cultural glitz, North Africa has seen both its good and its bad days. The state religion is Sunni Islam with little chance for it to be changed. Almost 80% have never received the Gospel. Other religions are tolerated among expatriates; but persecution remains a very real threat to the hearts of nationals who are seeking the Crown of Life. Highview will be taking a mission trip to North Africa in summer of 2009. Zambia Although geographically beautiful, Zambia is a spiritually dark place. Many residents are deep in witchcraft and animism while their people face the challenges of hunger, sickness, and oppression. We are looking to make a difference in Zambia with our praying, giving, and going. India India is one of the largest and fastest growing countries in the world. There is perhaps no other place on earth that has a greater need for faithful believers to come and share the message and love of Christ. The country of India needs resources and people to make the name of Jesus famous. God is calling members at Highview to make a commitment to support missionary work in India. Guatemala We are investing time, energy, and money into the people of Guatemala. We ll take several trips this year that are affordable and sure to make on impact not only on the people of Guatemala, but also on the Highview members that go.

Vietnam With a population of over 87 million, Vietnam is the 13th largest country in the world. The area is culturally diverse and religion is no exception. The main religious influence in Vietnam is Buddhism and a close second is a blend of a myriad of ancestor worship, Confucianism, and Taoism. Missionaries are needed all over the country in order to share the love and grace of Jesus with the people. Honduras Since achieving independence in 1821, Honduras has struggled with militaristic rule, Marxism governments, guerrilla warfare, and devastating natural disasters. The country s most recent challenge came in 1998, as Hurricane Mitch bombarded the shoreline, killing thousands and leaving many others with absolutely nothing. Highview now has the opportunity to help meet both the spiritual and the physical needs of this great country. Zimbabwe Along Lake Kariba in north Zimbabwe, the Tonga people make their home in an isolated and inhospitable locale. The Tonga are less than 2% evangelical and have very little Gospel witness within their villages. The International Mission Board refers to peoples such as the Zimbabwe Tonga as an unreached people group, for they truly have not been reached with the Gospel. Highview will blaze the trail as we take the Gospel to an entire people that have never heard this life-changing message. Puerto Rico Puerto Rico is a vacation destination for many. However, despite the beautiful climate, Puerto Rico has areas that are thick with poverty, drug use, and false religion. We the the incredible opportunity to be a light to Puerto Rico in 2009. 21

Central and Southeast Asia Central Asia is heavily Muslim and one of the most unreached areas in the world. Millions there do not know Jesus Christ. Highview is partnering with missionaries in Central Asia to reach Muslims with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are building relationships with them through sports ministries such as football and basketball. Sports is a bridge that gives us the opportunity to share the love of Jesus in a place where few know Him. Students from all over the world come to study at universities throughout Southeast Asia. They represent an important people group for reaching the world with the Gospel. Highview members will impact this people group through relationship building, sports, teaching English, and music. Note: To protect the anonymity of the missionaries in each country, the specific countries and country picture were not included in this description. Brazil One of the greatest needs of the church is well-trained leadership. This is quite true in the country of Brazil. To help meet this need, Highview is beginning a partnership with a Baptist seminary in the costal city of Recifé. Right now, the seminary s needs are not necessarily brilliant professors and talented administrators; rather Recifé needs a facelift. In order to help the seminary become officially accredited, facility improvements must be made. Highview stands ready to meet the challenge. Philippines The country of the Philippines is on the hearts of many of our Highview members. From those who have adopted children from the Philippines to the dozens who have gone on mission trips to the beautiful country, our church has a special connection with the country. Those who have gone on mission trips to the Philippines preached to over 200,000 Filipinos in school assemblies, market squares, and crusades. 22
