They are among several ḥadīth on the subject matter of Raqāiq, or heart-softening narrations, compiled and organized in a pamphlet by Mashūr Ibn Ḥasan. What am I regarding this life?... 20 ḤADĪTH 37: Whoever would like to know what Allah has for him... 20 ḤADĪTH 38: Whoever pleases Allah by angering people, Allah will suffice him from people.... 21 ḤADĪTH 39: Anyone of you who wakes up safe with his family, healthy in his body...... 21 ḤADĪTH 40: Whoever was two-faced in this life will have, on the Day of Resurrection, two tongues of fire.... 21 ḤADĪTH 41: Whoever makes the hereafter his concern, Allah will place his richness in his heart.... 22 ḤADĪTH 42: Be cautious of the prohibited things and you will be the most worshipping of people.... 22 ḤADĪTH 43: All people are the children of Adam, and Adam was from dirt.... 23 ḤADĪTH 44: I swear by the One in whose hand is my soul, this worldly life is more insignificant...... 24 ḤADĪTH 45: Allah does not cease to cultivate within this religion those He uses for his obedience.... 24 Page 3

Ḥ A D Ī T H 1 The messenger of Allah ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) said: أت ان ي ج ب ر ي ل ف ق ال : ي ا م ح م د ع ش م ا ش ئ ت ف إ ن ك م ي ت و أ ح ب ب م ن ش ئ ت ف إ ن ك م ف ار ق ه و اع م ل م ا ش ئ ت ف إ ن ك م ج ز ي ب ه و اع ل م أ ن ش ر ف ال م ؤ م ن ق ي ام الل ي ل و ع ز ه اس ت غ ن اؤ ه ع ن الن اس. Jibrīl came to me and said, Oh Muhammad, live how you like for you will certainly die. Love whom you like for you will certainly leave him. Do as you like for you will certainly be compensated for it. And know that the dignity of a believer is his standing at night (in prayer), and his honor is his managing himself without need of other people. 2 Ḥ A D Ī T H 2 Abū Hurayrah ( رضي اهلل عنه ) reported that Allah s messenger ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) asked:. ال م ف ل س م ا أ ت د ر و ن Do you know what a bankrupt person is? They replied, A bankrupt person among us is the one with no money or possessions. The prophet ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) continued: 2 al-albānī s Silsilah al-aḥādīth al-ṣaḥīḥah (no. 831) Page 4

The bankrupt person from my nation is the one who will come on the Day of Resurrection with prayer, fasting, and charity. But he had insulted this person, slandered that person, cheated this person out of money, spilled this person s blood, and hit that person. Each of these people (he harmed) will then be given some of his good deeds. And if his good deeds run out before settling his affairs, their sins will be taken and put upon the man, then he will be thrown in the fire. 3 Ḥ A D Ī T H 3 ) صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ( Allah ) reported that the messenger of رضي اهلل عنه ( Abdullah Jābir Ibn said: الظ ل م ظ ل م ات ي و م ال ق ي ام ة و ات ق و ا الش ح ف إ ن الش ح ح م ل ه م ع ل ى أ ن س ف ك و ا د م اء ه م و اس ت ح ل و ا م ح ار م ه م. ا ت ق و ا الظ ل م ف إ ن أ ه ل ك م ن ك ان ق ب ل ك م Beware of oppression because oppression will become darkness on the Day of Resurrection. And beware of stinginess because stinginess destroyed those who came before you. It led them to shed each other s blood and declare each other s sanctity permissible to violate. 4 3 Ibid., no. 847 4 No. 858 Page 5

Ḥ A D Ī T H 4 Faḍālah Ibn Ubayd reported in a marfū 5 form: ت م ر ة. بش ق و ل و ح ج اب ا الن ار و ب ي ن ب ي ن ك م اج ع ل و ا Construct between yourself and the fire a barrier even with half a date (given in charity). 6 Anas ( رضي اهلل عنه ) reported in a marfū form: Ḥ A D Ī T H 5 ال عق و ب ة ل ه ع ج ل خ ي ر ا بع ب د الل ه أ ر اد إ ذ ا بع ب د ش ر ا الل ه أ ر اد و إ ذ ا ف ي الد ن ي ا ال ق ي ام ة. ي و م ي و اف ي ه ح ت ى ذ ن و ب ه ع ل ي ه أ م س ك When Allah wants good for a servant, He hastens his punishment (for his sins) in this life. And if Allah wants bad for a servant, he preserves his sins for him until he meets Him on the Day of Resurrection. 7 Ḥ A D Ī T H 6 Amr Ibn al-ḥamaq ( رضي اهلل عنه ) reported in a marfū ḥadīth: ع س ل ه. خ ي ر ا بع ب د الل ه أ ر اد إ ذ ا 5 Ibn al- Uthaymīn, in Muṣṭalaḥ al-ḥadīth, explained a marfū ḥadīth as one that is either raised to the status of being directly attributed to the prophet ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) as his explicit statement, action, approval, or as a physical or character description, or it is determined for a number of reasons that the statement carries the ruling of being ). صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ( prophet attributed to the 6 No. 897 7 No. 1220 Page 6

When Allah wants good for a servant, He makes others pleased with him. It was asked, And what is this pleasing respect others have for him, messenger of Allah? He answered: ح و ل ه. م ن ع ن ه ي ر ض ى ح ت ى م و ت ه ي د ي ب ي ن ع م ال ص ال ح ا ل ه ي ف ت ح He makes the person able to do good deeds at the time of his death so that those around him are pleased with him. 8 Ḥ A D Ī T H 7 Uqbah Ibn Āmir ( رضي اهلل عنه ) reported in a marfū form: ه و ف إ ن م ا ي ح ب م ا م ع اص ي ه ع ل ى الد ن ي ا م ن ال ع ب د ي ع ط ي الل ه ر أ ي ت إ ذ ا اس ت د ر اج. If you see that Allah provides for a servant in this life from what he likes because of his sins, it is only Istidrāj (allowing him to gradually increase in sin). The messenger of Allah then recited the verse: مبا ف ر ح و ا إ ذ ا ح ت ى ك ل ش ي ء أ ب و اب ع ل ي ه م ف ت ح ن ا ب ه ذ ك ر وا م ا ن س و ا ف ل م ا م ب ل س و ن ه م ف إ ذ ا ب غ ت ة أ خ ذ ن اه م أ و ت و ا 8 No. 1114 Page 7

So when they forgot what they had been reminded about, We opened to them the doors of every (good) thing until, when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and they were (then) in despair. 9 Ḥ A D Ī T H 8 صل ى اهلل ( messenger ) said, Once we were around Allah s رضي اهلل عنه ( Amr Abdullah Ibn ) then صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ( prophet ) when someone mentioned tribulations. The عليه وسل م said: ع ه و د ه م م ر ج ت ق د الن اس ر أ ي ت إ ذ ا ه ك ذ ا. و ك ان و ا أ م ان ات ه م و خ ف ت (It will be) when you see people being unconcerned about their promises and their trustworthiness declines, and they (the people and tribulations) are like this and he interlocked his fingers. One of the ḥadīth narrators then stood and asked him, What should I do at that time, may Allah ransom you with my life. He ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) answered: و ع ل ي ك ت ن ك ر م ا و د ع ت ع ر ف م ا و خ ذ ل س ان ك ع ل ي ك و أ مل ك ب ي ت ك ال ز م ال ع ام ة. أ م ر ع ن ك و د ع ن ف س ك خ اص ة بأ م ر Remain in your house, preserve your tongue, take only what you know, leave what you are unsure about, be concerned only with your own affairs, and leave the affairs of the common people. 10 9 The Quran, Sūrah al-anām, 6:44. The ḥadīth is no. 413 in Silsilah al-aḥādīth al-ṣaḥīḥah. 10 No. 205 Page 8

Ḥ ADĪ T H 9 ): صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ( said ) said, Messenger of Allah, advise me. He رضي اهلل عنه ( Dharr Abū ع م ل ت س ي ئ ة إ ذا ت م ح ه ا. ح س ن ة ف أ ت بع ه ا Whenever you make a sin, follow it up with a good deed which will erase it. I asked, Is saying, Nothing should be worshipped but Allah considered a good deed? He answered: ه ي أ ف ض ل احل س ن ات. It is the best of good deeds. 11 Ḥ A D Ī T H 10 Abdullah Ibn Amr Ibn al- Āṣ ( رضي اهلل عنه ) said in a marfū ḥadīth: ث. ح د ي و ص د ق أ م ان ة ح ف ظ الد ن ي ا م ن ف ات ك م ا ع ل ي ك ف ال ف يك ك ن إ ذ ا أ ر ب ع : ط ع م ة. ف ي و ع ف ة خ ل ي ق ة و ح س ن Four things, if they are within you then nothing you missed in life will harm you: preserving trustworthiness, honest speech, good manners, and caution regarding food (i.e., whether it is from permissible means or not). 12 11 No. 1373 12 No. 733 Page 9

Ḥ A D Ī T H 11 ) صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ( messenger ) said: I heard Allah s رضي اهلل عنه ( al-bāhilī Abū Umāmah say: ا ك ف ل و ا ل ي بس ت أ ك ف ل ل ك م بال ج ن ة : ا ؤ ت م ن ف ال ي خ ن و إ ذ ا و ع د ف ال ي خ ل ف إذ ا ح د ث أ ح د ك م غ ض و ا أ ب ص ار ك م ف ال ي ك ذ ب و إ ذ ا و ك ف و ا أ ي د ي ك م و اح ف ظ و ا ف ر وج ك م. Guarantee me six things and I will guarantee you Paradise: If anyone of you speaks, let him not lie; if he is entrusted with something, let him not betray that trust; if he promises, let him not break his promise; lower your gaze, restrain your hands, and safeguard your private parts. 13 Ḥ A D Ī T H 12 Anas ( رضي اهلل عنه ) said that the messenger of Allah ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) said: أ ع م ار ا أ ط و ل ك م خ ي ار ك م خبي ار ك م أ ن ب ئ ك م أ ال إ ذ ا س د د و ا. Should I tell you who the best among you are? The best among you are the eldest in age if they have remained balanced and rightly-guided (throughout those years). 14 Ḥ A D Ī T H 13 13 No. 1525 14 No. 2498 Page 10

صل ى اهلل عليه ( prophet ) reported in a marfū ḥadīth that the رضي اهلل عنه ( al-khudrī Abū Sa īd said: ) وسل م م س ك ي ن ا و أ م ت ن ي م س ك ي ن ا أ ح ي ن ي الل ه م ن. ال م س اك ي ز م ر ة ف ي و اح ش ر ن ي Oh Allah, give me life as a poor person, give me death as a poor person, and resurrect me among the company of the poor. 15 Ḥ A D Ī T H 14 One of Banī Salīm reported that the prophet ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) said: و ج ل ع ز الل ه ق س م مبا ر ض ي ف م ن أ ع ط اه مبا ع ب د ه ي ب ت ل ي و ت ع ال ى ت ب ار ك الل ه إ ن ف ي ه. ل ه ي ب ار ك ل م ي ر ض ل م و م ن و و س ع ه ف ي ه ل ه الل ه ب ار ك ل ه Allah ( تبارك وتعاىل ) tests his worshipper with what He has given him. So whoever is pleased with what Allah ( عز وجل ) has apportioned for him, Allah blesses and increases it for him. And whoever is displeased, it is not blessed for him. 16 Ḥ A D Ī T H 15 Abū Hurayrah ( رضي اهلل عنه ) reported that the prophet ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) said: ل ع ب اد ت ي ت ف ر غ آد م اب ن ي ا ي ق ول الل ه إن ف ق ر ك و أ س د غ ن ى أ م أل ص د ر ك : م أل ت ت ف ع ل و إ ن ال ي د ي ك ش غ ال ف ق ر ك. أ س د و ل م 15 No. 308 16 No. 1658 Page 11

Allah says, Oh son of Adam, free your time for My worship and I will fill your chest with sufficiency and I will prevent your poverty. But if you do not, I will fill your hands with occupation, and I will not prevent your poverty. 17 Ḥ A D Ī T H 16 Abū Hurayrah ( رضي اهلل عنه ) reported in a marfū ḥadīth: : جس م ك ل ك أ ص ح أ ل م ل ه ي ق ال أ ن الق ي ام ة ي و م الع ب د ب ه ي ح اس ب م ا أ و ل إ ن. الب ار د امل اء م ن و أ ر و ك One of the first things for which a worshipper will be called to account on the Day of Resurrection is that he will be asked, Did I not make your body healthy and provide you with cool water? 18 Ḥ A D Ī T H 17 Fāṭimah ( رضي اهلل عنها ) narrated that Allah s messenger ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) said: وأ ل و ان الط ع ام أ ل و ان يط ل ب و ن ال ذ ين بالن ع ي م غ ذ و ا ال ذ ين أ م ت ي ن ش ر ار م إ ن الث ي اب و ي ت ش د ق و ن بال ك ال م. Some of the worst people of my nation are those who are nourished with all kinds of blessings those who request all types of food and all types of clothes and brag about it. 19 17 No. 1359 18 No. 539 19 No. 1891 Page 12

Anas Ibn Mālik ( Ḥ A D Ī T H 18 said: ) صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ( Allah ) said that the messenger of رضي اهلل عنه ل لش ر ح م ف ات ي الن اس م ن و إ ن ل لش ر ق م غ ال ي ل ل خ ي ر ح م ف ات ي الن اس م ن إ ن ل م ن و و ي ل ي د ي ه ع ل ى ال خ ي ر ح م ف ات ي الل ه ج ع ل ل م ن ف ط و ب ى ل ل خ ي ر ق م غ ال ي ي د ي ه. ع ل ى الش ر ح م ف ات ي الل ه ج ع ل There are certainly some people who act as keys (opening the doors) to good, locks to evil. And there are others among people who are keys to evil, locks to good. So Ṭūbá (a tree in Paradise, or success ) is for those for whom Allah facilitates their hands to act as keys to goodness, and let those beware for whom Allah facilitates their hands to act as keys to evil. 20 Ḥ A D Ī T H 19 The messenger of Allah ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) was once brought some barley bread that had turned oily and rancid yet he still ate from it. He then said: إ نم ا اخل ي ر خ ي ر اآلخ ر ة. The only true good is the good of the hereafter. 21 Ḥ A D Ī T H 20 The prophet ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) once said in a mursal ḥadīth: 20 No. 1332 21 No. 1102 Page 13

إ نم ا ي س ت ر ي ح م ن غ ف ر ل ه. Only someone who has been forgiven may truly relax. 22 Ḥ A D Ī T H 21 al-barā Ibn Āzib said: We were once with the messenger of Allah ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) when he saw a gathering of people. He asked, What have they gathered for? to which someone replied, They are digging a grave. Allah s messenger then hurried with his companions to the grave and then kneeled down beside it. Those around him faced him to see what he was going to do. He began crying until his tears moistened the ground. He then turned to us and said: أ ي إ! ف أ ع د و ا. الي و م ل م ث ل خ وان ي My brothers, prepare yourselves for a day like today. 23 Ḥ A D Ī T H 22 Anas Ibn Mālik, Abdullah Ibn Abbās, and others ( رضي اهلل عنهم ) reported that the prophet said: ) صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ( ث الث م ه ل ك ات و ث ال ث م ن ج ي ات ف ق ال : ث الث م ه ل ك ات : ش ح م ط اع و ه و ى م ت ب ع و إ ع ج اب ال م ر ء ب ن ف س ه و ث ال ث م ن ج ي ات : خ ش ي ة الل ه ف ي الس ر و الع الن ي ة. و الق ص د ف ي الف ق ر و الغ ن ى و الع د ل ف ي الغ ض ب و الر ض ا. 22 No. 1710 23 No. 1751 Page 14

There are three things which destroy and three things which save. The three destructive things are: stinginess that is obeyed, desires that are followed, and a person being too amazed with himself. The three things which save: fearing Allah in both private and in open, moderation in both poverty and richness, and fairness when both angry and happy. 24 Ḥ A D Ī T H 23 al-nu mān Ibn Bashīr ( رضي اهلل عنه ) said that the prophet ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) said: و الف ر ق ة ح م ة ر اجل ماع ة ع ذ اب. Unity is a mercy, and division is a punishment. 25 Ḥ A D Ī T H 24 Abū Mālik al-asha rī ( رضي اهلل عنه ) said when death was upon him: Oh gathering of the al- Asha rī family, let those present convey this to those who are absent. I heard the messenger of Allah ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) saying: اآلخ ر ة. ح ل و ة الد ن ي ا و م ر ة اآلخ ر ة م ر ة الد ن ي ا ح ل و ة The sweetness of this life becomes bitterness in the hereafter, and the bitterness of this life becomes sweetness in the hereafter. 26 Ḥ A D Ī T H 25 24 No. 1802 25 No. 67 26 No. 1817 Page 15

One of the prophet s companions reported that he ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) said: إ ل ي ك. أ ه ر و ل إ ل ي و ام ش إ ل ي ك أ م ش إ ل ي ق م آد م اب ن ي ا ت ع ال ى الل ه ق ال : Allah ( تعاىل ) said, Oh son of Adam, stand before Me, I will walk to you. And walk to Me, I will run to you. 27 Ḥ A D Ī T H 26 Anas ( رضي اهلل عنه ) reported in a marfū ḥadīth that the prophet ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) said: ذ ك ر ت ن ي. إ ذ ا م ع ك و أ ن ا بي ظ ن ك ع ن د أ ن ا ع ب د ي و ج ل ع ز الل ه ق ال : Allah ( عز وجل ) said, My servant, I am as you think of Me, and I am with you when you remember Me. 28 Ḥ A D Ī T H 27 ) صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ( Allah ) narrated that the messenger of رضي اهلل عنه ( Aws Shaddād Ibn said: ق ال الل ه ع ز و ج ل : و ع ز ت ي ال أ ج م ع ل ع ب د ي أ م ن ي ن و ال خ و ف ي ن إ ن ه و أ م ن ن ي ف ي الد ن ي ا أ خ ف ت ه ي و م ف يه ع ب اد ي. أ ج م ع ف يه ع ب اد ي و إ ن ه و خ اف ن ي ف ي الد ن ي ا أ م ن ت ه ي و م أ ج م ع Allah ( عز وجل ) said, By my honor, I do not combine for My servant two times of safety and two times of fear. fear Me the day on which I gather My servants. And if he fears Me in this life, I will make him feel safe the day on which I gather My servants. 29 Ḥ A D Ī T H 28 Abū Umāmah Ibn Sahl Ibn Ḥanīf ( رضي اهلل عنه ) reported from his father in a marfū narration that the prophet ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) used to accompany the weak Muslims. He would visit them, see them when they become sick, and attend their funerals. 30 Ḥ A D Ī T H 29 Sarāqah said: I once came upon Allah s messenger ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) at al-ja rānah. I was not sure what to ask him about, so I said, Oh messenger of Allah, sometimes I fill my watering hole (e.g. trough, etc.), waiting for my flock to return to me. But then other animals would come and drink from it. So is there a reward in that? The messenger of Allah ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) answered: أ ج ر. ح ر ى ك ب د ذ ات ك ل ف ي For (kindness to) anything with a warm liver (i.e. any living creature), there is a reward. 31 Ḥ A D Ī T H 30 Abū Hurayrah ( رضي اهلل عنه ) reported in a marfū narration: 29 No. 742 30 No. 2112 31 No. 2152 Page 17

If you were to commit sins so much that your sins reached the sky but then you repented, He (Allah) would accept your repentance. 32 Jābir ( رضي اهلل عنه ) narrated a marfū ḥadīth: Ḥ A D Ī T H 31 امل و ت م ن ي ه ر ب ك م ا ر ز ق ه م ن ه ر ب آد م اب ن أ ن ل و أل د ر ك ه ي د ر ك ه ك م ا ر ز ق ه امل و ت. Even if the son of Adam were to flee from his sustenance like he flees from death, his sustenance would still reach him just like his death will reach him. 33 Ḥ A D Ī T H 32 Utbah Ibn Abid ( رضي اهلل عنه ) said that the messenger of Allah ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) said: ي م وت ي و م إل ى و ل د ي و م م ن و ج ه ه ع ل ى ي ج ر ر ج ال أ ن ل و الل ه م ر ض اة ف ي ه رم ا الق ي ام ة. ي و م ل ح ق ر ه ع ز و ج ل If a man were to be dragged on his face for something in the pleasure of Allah ), from the day he was born until he dies of old age, he would still belittle عز وجل ( that on the Day of Resurrection. 34 32 No. 903 33 No. 952 34 No. 446 Page 18

Ḥ A D Ī T H 33 Abdullah Ibn Umar ( رضي اهلل عنهما ) reported a marfū narration: و ه و ل ه م ي غ ف ر ث م ي ذ ن ب و ن خ ل ق ا و ج ل ع ز الل ه ل خ ل ق ي ذ ن ب و ا ل م الع ب اد أ ن ل و الر ح ي م. الغ ف و ر If worshippers did not commit sins, Allah ( عز وجل ) would create another creation that would commit sins then He would forgive them, for He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful. 35 Ḥ A D Ī T H 34 ) صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ( Allah ) said he heard the prophet of رضي اهلل عنه ( al-khaṭṭāb Umar Ibn saying: ت غ د و الط ي ر ي ر ز ق ك م ا ل ر ز ق ك م ت و ك ل ه ح ق الل ه ع ل ى ت تو ك ل و ن أ ن ك م ل و بط ان ا. ح و ت ر و خ م اص ا If you were to rely on Allah with the reliance He deserves, He would provide for you just as He provides for the birds; they leave in the morning hungry and return at night full. 36 Ḥ A D Ī T H 35 Thawbān ( رضي اهلل عنه ) narrated in a marfū form: 35 No. 967 36 No. 310 Page 19

Each of you should have a heart that is thankful, a tongue that mentions (Allah), and a righteous wife that helps him regarding the affairs of the hereafter. 37 Ḥ A D Ī T H 36 ) صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ( messenger ) said that once Allah s رضي اهلل عنه ( Mas ūd Abdullah Ibn slept on a straw mat which left marks on his side. When he woke up, he began rubbing his side and asked, Messenger of Allah, would you allow us to spread something (softer) over your straw mat? He ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) answered: ت ح ت اس ت ظ ل ك ر اك ب الد ن ي ا و م ث ل م ث ل ي إ ن م ا والد ن ي ا أ ن ا م ا و ل لد ن ي ا ل ي م ا و ت ر ك ه ا. ر اح ث م ش ج ر ة What do I have to do with this life? What am I regarding this life? My example and that of this life is only as a rider who takes shade under a tree and then leaves it. 38 Ḥ A D Ī T H 37 Anas, Abū Hurayrah, and Samurah Ibn Jundub ( رضي اهلل عنهم ) reported that the prophet said: ) صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ( ع ن د ه. ل ل ه م ا ف ل ي ن ظ ر الل ه ع ن د ل ه م ا ي ع ل م م ن أ ر اد أ ن 37 No. 2176 38 No. 438 Page 20

Whoever would like to know what Allah has for him then let him look to what he has for Allah. 39 Ḥ A D Ī T H 38 Ā ishah ( رضي اهلل عنها ) narrated a marfū ḥadīth in which the prophet ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) said: بر ض ى الل ه أ س خ ط و م ن الن اس اهلل ك ف اه الن اس بس خ ط الل ه أ ر ض ى م ن الن اس و ك ل ه إ ل ى الن اس. الل ه Whoever pleases Allah by angering people, Allah will suffice him from people. And whoever angers Allah by pleasing people, Allah will entrust him to the people. 40 Ḥ A D Ī T H 39 صل ى اهلل عليه ( prophet ) reported that the رضي اهلل عنهم ( others Ubaydullah Ibn Muḥṣan and said: ) وسل م ف ك أ ن م ا ي و م ه ت ق و ع ن د ه ج س د ه ف ي م ع اف ى ف ي س ر ب ه آم ن ا م ن ك م أ ص ب ح م ن حب ذ اف ي ر ه ا. الد ن ي ا ل ه ح ي ز ت Anyone of you who wakes up safe with his family, healthy in his body, having sustenance for the day, it is as if he posses the worldly life entirely. 41 Ḥ A D Ī T H 40 39 No. 2310 40 No. 2311 41 No. 2318 Page 21

Ammār Ibn Yāsir ( رضي اهلل عنه ) narrated a marfū ḥadīth: ن ار. م ن ل س ان ان ال ق ي ام ة ي و م ل ه ك ان الد ن ي ا ف ي و ج ه ان ل ه ك ان م ن Whoever was two-faced in this life will have, on the Day of Resurrection, two tongues of fire. 42 Ḥ A D Ī T H 41 Anas ( رضي اهلل عنه ) narrated a marfū ḥadīth in which Allah s messenger ( said: ) صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م و أ ت ت ه و ف ر ق م ن ك ان ت اآلخ ر ة ه م ه ج ع ل الل ه غ ن اه ف ي ق ل ب ه و ج م ع ل ه ش م ل ه الد ن ي ا و ه ي ر اغ م ة و م ن ك ان ت الد ن ي ا ه م ه ج ع ل الل ه ف ق ر ه ب ي ن ع ي ن ي ه ع ل ي ه ش م ل ه و ل م ي أ ت ه م ن الد ن ي ا إ ال م ا ق د ر ل ه. Whoever makes the hereafter his (main) concern, Allah will place his richness in his heart, organize his affairs, and the worldly life will come to him without seeking it. But whoever makes this life his concern, Allah will place his poverty before his eyes, scatter his affairs, and nothing of the worldly life will come to him except what has already been destined for him. 43 Ḥ A D Ī T H 42 صل ى اهلل عليه ( prophet ) narrated a marfū narration in which the رضي اهلل عنه ( Hurayrah Abū asked: ) وسل م 42 No. 892 43 No. 949 Page 22

. به ن ي ع م ل م ن ي ع ل م أ و به ن ف ي ع م ل الك ل م ات ه ؤ ال ء ع ن ي ي أ خ ذ م ن Who will take these words from me and act upon them or teach them to others who may act upon them? Abū Hurayrah said: I replied, I will, messenger of Allah. He ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) then took my hand and counted on five fingers, saying: ا ت ق ال م ح ار م ت ك ن أ ع ب د الن اس و ار ض مبا ق س م الل ه ل ك ت ك ن أ غ ن ى الن اس و أ ح س ن إ ل ى ج ار ك ت ك ن م ؤ م ن ا و أ ح ب ل لن اس م ا ت ح ب ل ن ف س ك ت ك ن م س ل م ا و ال ت ك ث ر الض ح ك ف إ ن ك ث ر ة الض ح ك ت م يت الق ل ب. Be cautious of the prohibited things and you will be the most worshipping of people. Be content with what Allah has destined for you and you will be the richest of people. Behave well toward your neighbor and you will be a true believer. Love for people what you love for yourself and you will be a Muslim. And do not laugh excessively, for excessive laughter kills the heart. 44 Ḥ A D Ī T H 43 Abū Hurayrah ( رضي اهلل عنه ) reported in a marfū ḥadīth: الن اس و ل د آدم و آد م م ن ت ر اب. All people are the children of Adam, and Adam was from dirt. 45 44 No. 930 45 No. 1009 Page 23

Ḥ A D Ī T H 44 Ibn Abbās ( رضي اهلل عنه ) said that once the messenger of Allah ( صل ى اهلل عليه وسل م ) passed by a dead sheep that had been left, discarded by its owner. He said: أ ه ل ه ا. ع ل ى الش اة ه ذ ه م ن الل ه ع ل ى أ ه و ن ل لد ن ي ا بي د ه ن ف س ي و ال ذ ي I swear by the One in whose hand is my soul, this worldly life is more insignificant to Allah than this sheep is to its owner. 46 Ḥ A D Ī T H 45 صل ى اهلل ( messenger ) reported that he heard Allah s رضي اهلل عنه ( al-khawlānī Abū Inabah say: ) عليه وسل م ي س ت ع م ل ه م غ ر س ا ن الد ي ه ذ ا ف ي ي غ ر س الل ه ي ز ال ال بط اع ت ه.
