The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

Acts 1:1 The former treatise [account] have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, Who is the I?
Luke the Author The vast majority of all of Christianity has accepted for 2000 years that Luke the beloved physician (Col 4:14) is the author of both the third Gospel and Acts Luke is a traveling companion with Paul
Acts 1:1 The former treatise [account] have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, Let s look at the introduction of the former treatise
Turn Back to Luke 1:1
Luke 1:1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration [narrative] of those things which are most surely believed among us, ESV: have been accomplished NKJV: have been fulfilled
The Greek word plērophoreō in this V. is translated differently because of the uniqueness of the Word Yet all three rendering are correct and acceptable
Commentary The apostles and followers of Christ did most surely believe He is writing about what was accomplished by Christ Scripture was fulfilled by what Christ did; Luke will dedicate much time to describing what was fulfilled
Luke 1:2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers [servants] of the word; Luke has the best sources one can find: eyewitnesses
Luke 1:3 It seemed good to me also, 10 sn When Luke says it seemed good to me as well he is not being critical of the earlier accounts, but sees himself stepping into a tradition of reporting about Jesus to which he will add uniquely a second volume on the early church when he writes the Book of Acts.
Luke 1:3 having had perfect [exact or accurate] understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order [account], most excellent Theophilus, Based on Luke s diligence in learning from the eyewitnesses he is well-equipped to give us an accurate narrative of the life of Christ
Luke 1:4 That thou [Theophilus from v. 3] Possibly a rich believer who financed the book
Luke 1:4 mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
This is NOT Fiction! The Apostles and their companions are fully convinced that the man Jesus is the Son of God
Luke 1:4 That thou [Theophilus] mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed. I know I get too passionate when I am instructing; sometimes, I feel like a coach that wants his team to be the best
Acts is the sequel to the Gospel of Luke Turn back to Acts 1:1
Acts 1:1-2a The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, Until the day in which he was taken up [to heaven], Let s look at how Luke ends his gospel turn back to Luke 24 v. 50 ff
Luke 24:50-53 And he [Jesus] led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. 51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
Bethany was a village on the Mount of Olives about 2 mi (3 km) from Jerusalem;
Acts 1:2 after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: The Ministry of the Holy Spirit is going to be a big deal in this book
Acts 1:2 after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: Luke 24:46ff records these commandments
Luke 24:46-49 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

One Week Later Thomas Meets Jesus John 20:26-31
John 20:26 31 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. 30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

There is NO Distinction Between Kingdom of Heaven Kingdom of God Kingdom of Christ
Ephesians 5:4-5 (ESV) Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Establishing the Kingdom is So Important It s the first thing Jesus told us to pray about
Luke 11:1-2 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. 2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.
