FROM FATHER JOHN: All the good works in the world are not equal to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass because they are the works of men; but the Mass is the work of God. Martyrdom is nothing in comparison for it is but the sacrifice of man to God; but the Mass is the sacrifice of God for man. St. John Vianney I m sure, by now, you ve read in the press or read online or seen a report on TV about Pope Francis meeting with young people from Argentina on July 25 th, at World Youth Day in Rio DeJanerio. His holiness has been widely quoted as telling the Youth that he wanted them to go out and make a mess in their dioceses. The following is the accurate quote of what His Holiness actually said. Let me tell you what I hope will be the outcome of World Youth Day: I hope there will be noise. Here there will be noise, I m quite sure. Here in Rio there will be plenty of noise, no doubt about that. But I want you to make yourselves heard in your dioceses, I want the noise to go out, I want the to go out onto the streets, I want us to resist everything worldly, everything static, everything comfortable, everything to do with clericalism, everything that might make us closed in on ourselves. The parishes, the schools, the institutions are made for going out... if they don t, they become an NGO, and the cannot be an NGO. May the bishops and priests forgive me if some of you create a bit of confusion afterwards. That s my advice. Thanks for whatever you can do. (Pope Francis, World Youth Fay, July 25, 2013 as reported by the Holy See) What the Holy Father is actually doing when he says that he hopes there will be noise is calling people, both young and old, to mission, to evangelization, to bringing our Lord to all people and to resisting anything worldly that inhibits our ability to live out our faith and proclaim the gospel message to all people. His holiness is not just calling out to young people, he is not just calling out to bishops, priest and deacons, he is calling out to each and every one of us to take on the mission that Christ gives to every single one of His disciples. This call to mission that His Holiness is making to us is a very biblical move on his part. The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age. (Matthew 28:16 20) Notice that the Holy Father calls all of us to go out meaning to go beyond ourselves, to deny anything that makes us close in on ourselves. This is our mission as both individuals and as a parish: to go out and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Blessed John Paul II said it this way at World Youth Day in 1993, Do not be afraid to go out on the streets and into public places like the first apostles who preached Christ and the Good News of salvation in the squares of cities, towns and villages. This is no time to be ashamed of the Gospel. It is time to preach it from the rooftops. Fr. Nnamdi Moneme, OMV expressed it this way, My brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus; if we do not take risks for the Lord Jesus Christ as His disciples, we will never have a sense of our need for God and we will not desire Him as we ought to. So, the real question that comes before each of us, as individuals, as members of families, as members of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, as Catholics, is how do we respond to this call that originates from our Lord Jesus Christ and comes to us through the ministry of Pope Francis and Blessed John Paul II? Shortly after giving this mission to His disciples our Lord Jesus ascended to heaven which should indicate to us how important this mission is. The Lord did not ascend to His Father in heaven until he gave us the great commission. This is a mission which has been handed down from generation to generation throughout the history of the. I ask you to take this question of responding to this call to mission to your own prayer and see where the Lord leads you. I am confident that if each of us does that we will come to realize how the Lord our God wishes us to respond to his call individually and as a member of this wonderful parish. I am also confident that the Lord will let us know how he wants St. Paul the Apostle Parish, acting in communion with the universal, to respond to His call to mission; to go out and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION When Pope Pius XII died in 1958, there was the usual buzz of speculation about likely successors. Cardinal Agajanian, Patriarch of the Armenians, was highly thought of as a likely choice. This took many Catholics by surprise, since he had never celebrated the same liturgy as Pope Pius, but followed ancient Armenian customs according to the Eastern, which veils the Eucharisic liturgy from sight by a series of curtains, and in which the priest kneels while the people stand for Communion. In the years that followed, the Second Vatican Council would affirm the dignity and independence of the Eastern es, in complete union with Rome, yet different in patterns of life and worship. We have the same faith, the same sacraments, and the same pope. Yet everywhere in the world our separate es are combined into families held together by the ministry of bishops. All of this serves as warning: If you ever say, "But we've always done it this way," you are on very thin ice indeed! --James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. LIFE From a Former Abortion Provider On October 23rd, I went and did my last abortions on just a few patients. And I knew it would be the last day. And that evening, I said No to money and Yes to God. The next day I went down to church and confessed with my mouth that Jesus was Lord. Then, on the way out of church, I saw this blue brochure for a crisis pregnancy center. I just looked at it and kind of felt that this was what I should be involved with. The next day I called up the center and told them I was a doctor in Atlanta and had done many, many thousands of abortions, and that I came to Christ the day before and now wanted to do everything to save babies instead of take their lives.
