Prayers of Blessings for Your Children Weeks 1 and 2 from the Proverbs (chapters 20, 8, and 2) Proverbs 20:7 The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him. Day 1 Pray that you and your husband will be examples of godliness to your children. Pray that this time of prayer for your children will not only bring your children closer to the Lord, but that it will bring you closer to the Lord as well, so you can continue to be a blessing in their lives. Day 2 Pray that you understand what it means for your children to be blessed not simply that your children will be happy and successful, but that they will find true joy and fulfillment in being in the center of God's will. Day 3 Pray for your children to have the greatest blessing of all a relationship with Christ! If your small children have not yet asked Christ into their hearts, pray that they will make that important decision early in life, and pray that they will stay faithful to that commitment for the rest of their lives. If your pre-teens, teens, or young adults have not asked Christ into their hearts, pray that they will commit their lives to Christ and choose to stay faithful to Him even when they are tempted to return to sin. If your children have already chosen to live for Christ, pray for endurance as they encounter obstacles and temptations throughout their lives. Day 4 Pray that your children will be a blessing to others. Pray that their lives would be a special encouragement to their fellow Christians and a beautiful testimony of God's grace to the lost. Proverbs 8:32 Now therefore, listen to me, my children, for blessed are those who keep my ways. Day 5 Pray for the blessing of wisdom for your children. Pray that they will know when God is speaking to them and guiding them, and pray that they will obey Him. Day 6 Ask the Lord to help you and your husband give your children sound, godly advice. Seek His guidance in counseling and instructing your children. Proverbs 8:33 Hear instruction and be wise, And no not disdain it. Day 7 Ask the Lord to help your children appreciate wisdom from righteous people. God can greatly use godly people parents, pastors, teachers, etc. in the lives of young people. Pray that your children will understand this and choose not to chafe under instruction from older believers. 1
Day 8 Pray that as your older children meet new people and experience new things, they will listen to godly advice. Pray that, when they seek advice, they would seek out wise, god-fearing people to counsel them, rather than people who would lead them astray. Proverbs 2:10-11 When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you, understanding will keep you, Day 9 Pray that your children will practice wisdom in choosing to avoid what is evil. Ask the Lord to help them consistently live pure lives set-apart from the world. Proverbs 2:12 To deliver you from the way of evil, from the man who speaks perverse things, Day 10 Pray that your children will hate what is perverse what is destructive to their minds, hearts, and souls. Ask the Lord to help them choose wisely what they watch, read, and listen to. Ask Him to show you how to be an example of this to your children now. Proverbs 2:13-14 From those who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice in doing evil, and delight in the perversity of the wicked. Day 11 Pray that your children will choose their friends wisely. Ask the Lord to bring godly, encouraging friends into their lives. Pray that your children will lovingly reach out to the lost, while still keeping their hearts pure and separate from the world. Proverbs 2:16 To deliver you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words. Day 12 Pray that your children will not give into the temptation of sexual immorality. Pray that your sons will prayerfully guard their eyes and minds from the sexual temptations they face. Pray that your daughters will prayerfully guard their hearts that they would choose not to use their bodies or charm for attention and validation. Day 13 Pray that your children will make the right decisions in their romantic relationships. Pray that each son will value purity and godliness in young women. Pray that each daughter will first of all find her value in God's estimation of who she is, not in a guy's estimation of who she is. Ask the Lord to bring the right spouse into each child's life. If your children are already married, pray for God's continual guidance in their marriages. Proverbs 2:20-22 So you may walk in the way of goodness, And keep to the paths of righteousness. For the upright will dwell in the land, And the blameless will remain in it; But the wicked will be cut off from the earth, And the unfaithful will be uprooted from it. Day 14 Pray that your children will love what is good and acceptable to God. Pray that they would not only avoid sinful choices, but would also help others to make the right choices, pointing everyone they meet to Christ. 2
Weeks 3 and 4 from the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5, 6, and 7) Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Day 15 Ask the Lord to help your children realize they cannot find satisfaction and fulfillment in themselves, but only in seeking more of God. Pray that they will see that without Christ, they have nothing. Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Day 16 Pray that your children will understand that sorrow is a part of this life, but comfort from the Lord is a beautiful blessing! Ask the Lord to help your children trust in Him during the difficult times in life. Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Day 17 Pray that your children will see that being strong does not mean being harsh or cruel. Day 19 Pray that your children will be patient with others quick to show mercy and love to those who need it desperately. Ask the Lord to show your children that, as He has been merciful to them, they must demonstrate that mercy to others. Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Day 20 Pray that your children's decisions to live righteous, holy lives will not only mean they will see God in heaven, but that their hearts will be so in tuned with the Lord that they will see God in every aspect of life now. Ask the Lord to help your children seek Him and find Him as they keep their hearts pure and devoted to Him. Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peace-makers, for they shall be called the sons of God. Day 21 Pray that your children will not stir up strife and turmoil, but will bring to the lives of others a peace that only comes from faith in Jesus Christ. 3
Matthew 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Day 22 Ask the Lord to give your children the strength and boldness to stay faithful to Christ, no matter what the cost. Pray that they will love the Lord so much that they will make any sacrifice God asks them to make and find their joy in furthering the Kingdom of God. Matthew 5:48 Therefore you shall be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. Day 23 Pray that your children will understand holiness living lives that are surrendered to God and desiring to please the Lord in every aspect of life. Pray that they will know that mistakes are the result of human nature, but willful disobedience is sin. Pray that they will follow Christ's example of holy living desiring what is clean and pure and choosing to abstain from what is unclean and evil. Matthew 6:1 Take care that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Day 24 Pray that your children will not do noteworthy things to draw attention to themselves or to gain approval of men. Pray that they will instead use their service to God to only glorify Him. Matthew 6:6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward openly. Day 25 Pray that your children's prayer lives will be rich and deep. Ask the Lord to help them as they pray privately and quietly, so that they will be prepared to pray humbly and sincerely when they are asked to pray aloud. Matthew 6:9-13 The Lord's Prayer Day 26 Pray that your children will not just learn the Lord's Prayer to recite it, but that it will be the prayer of their lives. Pray that they will not just remember the words of the prayer, but remember the significance of why Jesus told us to pray this way. Matthew 6:16-18 When you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance... when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. Day 27 Pray that your children will practice fasting doing without something important to them to earnestly seek God's face and pray for His will. Pray that they will not fast for the approval or acceptance of men, but that they will fast with the intention to reach heaven and glorify God. Matthew 6:19-21 Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth... but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven... For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Day 28 Pray that your children will not adopt the materialistic mindset that so many young people in the world have today. Pray that they will realize that their greatest treasures and investments are eternal. 4
Matthew 6:25 Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Day 29 Pray that your children will be provided with all they need food, clothing, housing but will not become so preoccupied with their physical needs that they lose sight of their spiritual needs. Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Day 30 Pray that your children will not only keep God first in their lives, but will also organize their other priorities according to God's will. Ask the Lord to show your children if there are things in their lives that He does not want there at all. Matthew 7:24-25 Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. Day 31 Pray that your children's obedience to the words of the Lord will lay a strong foundation for their lives and will show others that wise, godly choices bring heavenly rewards true blessings! 5
