YOUR FELLOW PARISHIONER Getting to Know CHRISTY FENDLEY I was born in Danville, Illinois on November 7, 1972. We moved to Denver, Colorado when I was four. When my dad got a job with Fish and Wildlife, and then later Army Audit, we began moving every couple of years. We left Colorado and went to Hawaii, Korea, Germany, and then back to Colorado. Just when I thought I was settling in, we moved to Indiana during my sophomore year of high school. I graduated from high school in 1991, and then attended Indiana University. I graduated in December 1995 with a BS in Education. I decided that I needed to "do my own thing," so I took a teaching job in San Bernardino, California in 1996. It was a horrible year, and being on my own was incredibly stressful for me. My mother had baptized my brother and me in the Lutheran church, but we had rarely attended. Since we moved so often, it was difficult for my mom to find a church she was comfortable with in each new place we went. I tried going to various youth groups with friends, but I asked too many questions and so it was easier not to go to church. It was during my stressful year as a first-year teacher that I began attending a church in San Bernardino. It was a Lutheran church that reminded me of the Air Force Academy's chapel. I became a member there and attended regularly. (My mother was quite appalled when she found out it was an Evangelical Lutheran church and not a Missouri Synod!) At the end of the school year, I left San Bernardino and came to Boise. I tried visiting Lutheran churches in the area, but couldn't quite settle. My aunt's family had attended St. Michael's for years, and so I began attending there. I felt called to volunteer for the youth program when they began the Journey to Adulthood program, and I had the opportunity to work with Father Mike Spillane. I met my husband, Brian, in 1999 and we were married by Father Mike at St. Michael's in June 2001. Although I had visited Holy Nativity after Fr. Mike became the rector, I became busy with teaching middle school in Parma. It wasn't until 2003, after Jack was born and I had quit teaching, that I attended regularly. I was hired as the youth coordinator and worked as such until 2005. I was confirmed in 2006, a few months before Anna was born. Claire arrived in 2008 and life hasn't slowed down since! I went back to teaching in Parma in 2009 and continue to teach 8th grade English. With all the moving we did when I was a kid, I am happy to stay in one place. I am thankful for a church family that my kids have known all their lives, and who never cease to be a source of strength and support for me. LADIES TIME OUT! The Ladies Time Out in June will be at the Lavendar Acres on McDermott. The date and time will be announced at a later date.

PROFILE COMMITTEE REPORT PAST Some of you may be interested in the results of our Storygathering interviews earlier this year. In an overly brief summary, the results of those interviews showed the following: Life events are important to us: such as baptisms, confirmations, ordinations, the move to our current church People, and our relationships with each other, are our most important asset. We value the welcoming, friendly interactions between parishioners. The youth group feels supported and valued by the congregation. Many members and youth would like to see growth in membership. PRESENT Three cheers for the volunteers that combed the neighborhoods around the church on May 16 th gathering information from observations to be used in our parish profile and to illuminate local needs that Holy Nativity might be able to address through future outreach. Matt Wheeler and Janice Avera would like to thank the following parishioners who volunteered: John Anson, Lorraine Bowring, Clare Barrett, Bob & Linda Burnz, Mary & Darwin Buchanan, Debbie & Tim Domka, Staci Falconer, Rev. Brian Grassley, Kay Grooms, Clay Lisle, Carrie Magette, Michelle Munayirji, Karen Ryker, Mary Alice & Steve Sanders, Gil & Sue Walker, and Cindy & Dennis Wolfenbarger. FUTURE When finished, our parish profile will include our parish history, pictures, demographics, the results from our Story-gathering exercise, and a description of our different ministries which include: Stewardship Worship Education Evangelism Pastoral care Outreach Fellowship Facilities Finances 7
