Worship 11:00 a.m. (Please turn off all cell phones & pagers) Prelude Gabriel s Oboe from The Mission Ennio Morricone Kemp Smeal, organ Call to Worship The grace of Jesus Christ be among us. Leif Lind The love of God be among us. The communion of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen. Hymn of Praise Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven No. 4 Prayers of the Congregation (please remain standing for prayer) Rudy Torres Prayer Response O Jesus, blest Redeemer, sent from the heart of God, (No. 495) Hold us, who wait before Thee, near to the heart of God. Anthem Pilgrim s Hymn Stephen Paulus Worship in Giving Offertory Go Down Moses arr. H. T. Burleigh Steve Pence, bass (Unless otherwise marked, loose offering goes to local church expense) Anthem Great and Glorious Joseph Haydn Scripture Reading John 6:35, 38-44 Linda Nelson Then Jesus declared, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, I am the bread that came down from heaven. They said, Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, I came down from heaven? Stop grumbling among yourselves, Jesus answered. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day. Homily Have You Had Enough? Leif Lind

Communion Hymn (Choir & Congregation) I Am the Bread of Life Suzanne Toolan (1) I am the bread of life; they who come to me shall not hunger; They who believe in me shall not thirst. No one can come to me unless the Father draw them. Refrain (congregation): And I will raise them up, and I will raise them up, And I will raise them up on the last day. (2) The bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world, And they who eat of this bread, they shall live for ever, they shall live for ever. (3) Unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man And drink of his blood, you shall not have life within you, you shall not have life within you. (4) I am the resurrection, I am the life. They who believe in me, even if they die, they shall live for ever. (5) Yes, Lord, we believe that you are the Christ, The Son of God, who has come into the world. Communion Seventh-day Adventists practice open Communion, so we invite all members and guests to participate. For those who cannot come forward, please raise your hand and an attendant will come to you. (In consideration of those having wheat allergies, we have provided gluten-free wafers today.) Congregational Prayer Response May we who share Christ s body live his risen life; we who drink his cup bring life to others. We whom the Spirit enlightens give light to the world. Church Life All are welcome whoever you are, whatever your journey or background. God excludes no one, and neither do we. Today s flowers are given by Judson Ravi in appreciation to Leif Lind and his daughter Sonja (who will be visiting California this weekend) and son Svend. We are sad to announce the passing of long-time church member Thelma de Bock on April 4. She was 97. A memorial service for her will be held May 7 in the Chapel at 3 p.m. The memorial service for, Kathryn Magarian will be held in this church on May 28 at 2:30 p.m., after the fellowship meal that day. Judson Ravi wishes to thank the Prayers & Squares Quilt ministry for their quilt and prayers, as well as the prayers and anointing of the pastors, elders, and others in the congregation during his recent medical treatment. Choir staff singer Stephanie Aston has requested prayers for Cheryl Walters, mother of one of her closest friends, who passed out and fractured her skull this week, causing brain hemorrhage. Let us remember her as she starts a slow and painful recovery process. Sign-up and Orientation for May Homeless Feeding after worship today. If you are interested in serving lunch to 50-70 of our homeless neighbors on Sundays during May, join Todd Leonard in the Council Room to the right of the stage immediately after worship today for a 15-minute meeting. Get to Know the People in Your Church Better This Year! As an inclusive and welcoming congregation, Glendale City Church has a wonderfully diverse group of people who call this church home. In 2016, we are focusing on a different segment of our congregation each month. This month, on April 16 our Armenian congregation will have Dr. Hovik Saraffian speak during our morning worship; they will also provide a special catered lunch for us in the Fellowship Hall. We hope you enjoy the variety of experiences that will help us grow together in fellowship. We have not forgotten the Church Directory! We will begin to take photos again, starting on April 23. Please see Victoria if you would like to have your picture taken before or after the worship service. You may make arrangements with her by calling the office as well. L.A. Greater Los Angeles Region Convocation, April 20-22 (Wed-Fri), 7:00 p.m., Breath of Life Worship Center (425 S. La Brea Ave., Inglewood). The program continues Saturday and Sunday at the White Memorial Church. From Todd Leonard, Senior Pastor: We have received notice of the tragic deaths of Amir Issa and his mother Rabihah. Because of a posting on Amir s Facebook page from March 19 that mentions the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Glendale, we have received inquiries about his family s relationship to our congregation. After days of research, we are unable to find anything that connects this family to the Glendale City Seventh-day Adventist Church. Our prayers are with the friends and loved ones of the Issa family during this time.
