The Intellectual Christian Bob Laurent
Reason s last step is the recognition that there are an infinite number of things which are beyond it. Reason itself tells us that God transcends reason. If we submit everything to reason, our religion will be left with nothing mysterious or supernatural. But if we offend the principles of reason, our religion will be absurd and ridiculous. There are two excesses: to exclude reason, and to admit nothing but reason. Faith certainly tells us what the senses do not, but not the contrary of what they see: Faith is ABOVE our senses, NOT AGAINST them. - Pascal
The way of God, who disposes all things with gentleness, is (1) to instill Christianity into our minds with reasoned arguments and (2) into our hearts with grace, but (3) to instill it into our hearts and minds with Force and Threats is to instill not Christianity but Terror. We don t trust ourselves to do (1) or God to do (2), so the History of Christianity is that we do (3). - Pascal
1. Become a Christian Intellectual
Luke 14:28, Jesus said, Suppose one of your wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and count the cost. Before you even get into Christianity, the INITIAL COST then, as it is now, is to sit down and THINK.

2. Remove all artificial barriers that would keep the intellectual from coming to the Person of Jesus.

Science supporting the Bible: Archaeology Proves the historical accuracy of the Bible Astronomy agrees with Genesis that the world had a beginning. Geology supports the order of creation presented in Genesis 1, following the approach that a) the universe came first, b) the world was formed next, c)that life began in the sea, with the lower forms of life appearing first, and d) that man is the highest and latest form of life to appear.

Physics shows that the world is running out of available energy (the second law of thermodynamics). Therefore the world cannot be eternal but must have had a beginning.

Focus on the Person of Jesus with the intellectual He holds up very well under scrutiny and the rest is peripheral compared to Him.
a. He s God, Jn. 1:1. "A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on the level with a man who says he is a poached egg - or he would be the devil of hell. You must take your choice. Either this was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to". CS Lewis

4. Become one with all other Christ-followers Galatians 5:14-15 The entire Law is summed up in a single command: Love your neighbor as yourself. If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
5. Engage the Christless intellectual on their own ground and listen to their questions
6. Love the Lost Intellectual to Christ
4 Steps to an Intellectual Reformation
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of this world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and WE TAKE CAPTIVE EVERY THOUGHT to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Cor. 10:3-5
